Stampin’ Up! The Sky Is The Limit on This Sneak Peek Birthday Card!

It’s Friday, it’s Friday!  Whoo-hoo!!  I am very ready indeed – and I hope that you have something fun to look forward to this weekend.  And, I don’t want to put too fine a point on it, but….there’s only 21 shopping day till Christmas.  Just sayin’….

Speaking of Christmas – why don’t you try to get a little sumpin’-sumpin’ for free for Christmas?  Like….some Blog Candy!  You’ve still got a few days to get entered.  Entries close Monday afternoon – I’ll draw Tuesday morning.  Here’s the spot to go to get your name in the hat. 🙂

And speaking of FREE – who doesn’t like free stuff?  If any of you raised your hands, I would respectfully call you out as a fibber!  We all like free things!  And starting on 5 Jan 16 – Stampin’ Up! is giving you an awesome chance to earn free products.  That’s right – it’s almost Sale-A-Bration Time!!!  On 5 Jan 16, the very same day that the 2016 Occasions Catalog goes live, Sale-A-Bration starts.  From 5 Jan – 31 Mar, for every $50 in product that you spend (before shipping and taxes), you’ll get to pick a FREE item from the SAB catalog.  And there are some really fun things – including the stamp set and pretty Designer Paper that I used in my sneak peek card today.  This set is called Sky Is The Limit.  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Vintage Leaves And Many More Send Get Well Wishes!

Good Friday morning!  I hope that y’all had a great time checking out all the wonderful projects that the Happy Stampers brought you yesterday – I sure do appreciate everyone who stopped by here at Stamps-N-Lingers! 🙂

For today, I have a share that’s so in my wheelhouse that I might have made it.

Oh wait.

I DID make it!

A good friend of mine had surgery yesterday – kind of “big deal” surgery – and I wanted to make a Get Well card for him.  He’s not a fisherman, so my By the Tide set wasn’t really the right fit.  I decided to go back to a new, old standby.  Vintage Leaves and the matching Leaflets (I know I don’t have to mention the bundle savings….).  And the Woodland TIEF!  Take a look-see:

I’ve Got This!!

Oh my goodness.  Nothing does the heart good like picking up a really HEAVY box from the hotel desk – and seeing “Stampin’ Up!” written on the side…..it was pretty exciting.  But – I made the anticipation last.  I went and got some dinner.  Came back up and ate.  Watched a little tv.  If I maybe gave the box a little stroke on my way by each time – that’s not a bad thing, right?  Finally – I couldn’t stand it any longer and I broke into it.  Nope – didn’t even take a picture of the bounty inside (Warning – Rookie Blogger….).  Just started pulling stuff out.  And turning it over and inspecting everything.  And – quite conscientiously, I thought – putting it all neatly away.  Then I took a little bit and assembled several of the stamp sets.  And went to bed.  Yes, went to bed.  I know – I know.  How did I stand it?  How could I have NOT made a card?!?!  It was pure self-preservation, people!!  It was already 9:30 and the ^$&%* alarm was going off at 4:30am.  Had to sleep – don’t judge me!

But, the NEXT night….I made a card!  I’d promised a friend at work that I’d make a card for him to send to his wife – yes, my learning curve is flat flat flat.  I haven’t even managed to send my mom’s Mother’s Day present and I’m promising people I’ll make cards.  sigh….  But, promise I did, so….  I pulled out the brand spankin’ new You’ve Got This set, and combined it with a going-away-soon set – Lovely Amazing You.  Take a look-see:

Lovely Amazing You Outside 4 watermarkedI did a kinda-sorta CASE of a card I saw in the new catalog.  I SNAIL’d a piece of Whisper White CS to a Tip-Top Taupe (brand new 2015-2017 In Color color) card stock mat.  Then I used the awesome background stamp that comes in the You’ve Got This set (I think it’s really cool that we get a background stamp WITH the usual sentiment and image stamps!) and stamped twice with Crumb Cake ink.  The second time, I turned the stamp sideways and stamped a little lower down.

Lovely Amazing You Outside 1 watermarked

Then I inked up the pretty flower image with the new Watermelon Wonder ink and stamped it right over the background image.  I didn’t think it needed any more coloring than that!  The sentiment – from Lovely Amazing You – is ALSO in Watermelon Wonder.  To finish off the front, I used one of the new 2015-2017 In Color Blossom Accents.  I pulled a few strands from some 1/4″ Burlap Ribbon and glued them onto the stem of the flower with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.  Then I used a couple of glue dots and another dab of the liquid glue to adhere the flower.  I hemmed and hawed a bit between the Cucumber Crush Flower and the Watermelon Wonder.  Finally decided to give a tiny little pop of coordinating color and used the green!

Lovely Amazing You Outside 2 watermarked

I put the mat onto a Watermelon Wonder card base with some Stampin’ Dimensionals – and the front was done!

For the inside, I kept it simple.  I pulled two sentiments from the Hostess Set Good Greetings, and stamped them in Tip-Top Taupe on a piece of Whisper White card stock.  I used my Stamp-a-ma-Jig to get the placement that I wanted.  That thing is just so handy!

Lovely Amazing You Inside 1 watermarkedI used the little heart from another of the new sets – Friendly Wishes – colored with Watermelon Wonder – to accent the sentiment.  I was a little too hesitant with my first stamping effort – so I had to re-stamp my stamp to get the heart to look correct.  Cue the Stamp-a-ma-Jig again! 🙂

With that – the card was done.  I decided to go a little crazy and make an envelope for this one.  What a happy coincidence that I’d ordered a set of the new 2015-2017 In Color Envelope Paper!!  I picked the striped paper (all the paper is solid color on one side and has a pattern on the other) in Watermelon Wonder, and built an envelope with the Envelope Punch Board.  I used Sticky Tape (will still be in the new catalog, but it will now have an easy-tear paper backing) to adhere the sides of my envelope together.  Then I put a couple of strips on the flap for my friend to close his envelope to mail home.

Lovely Amazing You with Envelope 1 watermarked
And – Done!  I really love how easy the Stampin’ Up! color coordination makes it to create cohesive sets.  Takes a whole lot of the guess-work out of it!

Hope that you like this share – and will consider the You’ve Got This and Friendly Wishes sets for your stash.

When you see the products used in this card  (below), remember that you’ll be able to click on all of them, but you won’t be able to order the new products until 2 June. Hey!  If you were a demonstrator, you COULD order the new products right now just like I did!  Whatcha think?  Give me a holler and let’s get you all hooked up!

It’s  a gorgeous day here in California – after being downright yucky icky yesterday.  Hope you’re having a wonderful Saturday.  Anyone seen the new Avengers yet?!!?  I haven’t had a shot yet, but I hope to get to see it in IMAX 3-D.  If you HAVE seen it – let me know how it was, okay?

Adventure Bound Hex’s

Tick tock tick tock….I’m counting the minutes until my order of new SNEAK PEAK 2015-2016 Annual Catalog toys arrives!!  Whoo-hoo!  In the meantime, I’ve got a quick and easy card to share with you today.  This design is very very versatile.  Change up the color of the die cut, use a different DSP and all of a sudden, a card very much suited for a man becomes more feminine.  Change “Happy” to “Hello” (from the same Hello You thinlit set – which is in the new catalog, OBTW!).  Use a different sentiment stamp….and you could have a really cute new baby card.  Take a look-see at what I’m talkin’ about:

A Whole Lot of Wonderful Vases!

This week, I opened another fun box of toys business investments 😉 from Stampin’ Up!  There were a couple of stamps in there that I’d been wanting to play with for a while.  For today, I picked one to make a quick and easy card with.  It’s the Vivid Vases stamp.  It’s fun to color, and you get a lot of bang for the stamp.  Take a look-see:

Whole Lot of Wonderful Outside 3 watermarked

I started by stamping the image onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock, using the Memento Black Ink.  Then I ran it thru the Big Shot, cutting the oval with the Ovals Collection Framelit.  I used my Stampin’ Write Markers to color the image, and I was almost there!  I cut out a tiny heart from some Blackberry Bliss Card Stock, using my Hearts Border punch, and glued it on with a little dab of Multi-purpose Liquid Glue.  A tiny seed pearl brightens the center of the daisy.  And, cause I just thought it wanted a little extra sump’n sump’n, I put a bunch of little dots around the outside of the oval with my Perfect Plum Marker.

Whole Lot of Wonderful Outside Closeup watermarked

I SNAIL’d a Blackberry Bliss mat to one of my Whisper White Notecards (of Notecards and Envelopes fame – so it’s a smallish card).  I decided to keep the mat a little smaller than usual – I liked the contrast with the white card base.  And, after I popped the sentiment oval on the front with Dimensionals, I really liked the ratio of Blackberry Bliss to White.  The card front was done!

Whole Lot of Wonderful Outside 2 watermarked

The inside got a quick little stamp with a couple more vases (this time I used my Elegant Eggplant Ink Pad – no idea why except that it was new and I wanted to use it!), and some coloring.  I added the Celebrate sentiment, in Perfect Plum, from the Good Greetings Hostess Set.  And that was that.  Done!

Whole Lot of Wonderful Inside 1 watermarked

This is such a cute card, and it’s so quick to make – the little dots around the oval took the longest! – that I think it would be an awesome pick for a gift set for someone for….Mother’s Day?!? I just love these little vases, and am betting I’ll be using them a lot in the future.

Don’t forget the Butterfly Thinlits special going on right now thru the end of this month:

Blingy Barn-door Birthday

My card share for this week was a bit of a fluke.  I was trying for a more masculine card – or even kind of gender neutral.  And I wanted to play with more of the Adventure Bound DSP.  I didn’t start with a design from anywhere.  Just sat down and started putting things together.  And ended up really LOVING the result!!  Take a look-see:
Barn Door B-day Outside 1 watermarked

The front is just a Sahara Sand mat, with a piece of the Adventure Bound DSP SNAIL’d to it and then the entire layered piece is SNAIL’d to a Night of Navy Card Base.  I did take just a few minutes to lightly sponge the edges of the Sahara Sand mat with a little Night of Navy ink before I adhered everything together.

I used my Chalk Talk Framelits and cut out the largest of the dies from some more Sahara Sand card stock.  I edged it in Night of Navy with one of my handy Sponge Daubers.  Then I pulled out my favorite sentiment set  – Sassy Salutations – and I inked it up with Night of Navy.  It’s length drove the offset on the tag.

So, there I was – with a card front that looked like a barn door and a tag that said Happy Birthday.  And not a lot of inspiration.  I started digging thru my Biscotti-box of embellishments and came across some buttons in the Artisan Embellishment Kit.  As I played with a few of them, I realized that the silver button looked quite reminiscent of a concha on a western saddle.  Then it occurred to be that our Linen Thread could look like a lariat rope.  And…inspiration hit!

Barn Door B-day Outside 3 closeup watermarked

I SNAIL’d the tag onto the card from, and then wound up a length of Linen Thread into a loose lasso.  Using glue dots, I adhered the button and the “lariat” to the top of the tag – making it look (okay, maybe just a little and you have to suspend your understanding of how gravity works, but….) like a tag hanging from a peg on a barn wall.  Squint yer eyes – you’ll see it! I just had to add a little final “bling” with a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels.  Couldn’t help myself!

Barn Door B-day Outside 1 watermarked

That finished off the front and I moved inside.  I simply sponged another piece of Sahara Sand CS with Night of Navy ink, and SNAIL’d a scrap piece of the DSP across the bottom.  Easy peasy and done!

Barn Door B-day Inside watermarked

The end result is a card that I think could go to a man (even with the bling) or a woman.  I really like how it turned out – and I hope that you do, too! And, if you want to CASE this, but don’t have the Artisan Embellishment Kit, I think you could use one of the cool brads from the Antique Brads collection.

Here’s where we are on the Butterfly Thinlits.  This was posted Wednesday, 15 Apr:

“We have received notice from our supplier that the container with the Butterflies Thinlits Dies was finally unloaded from the ship; however, there is a shortage of trucks, which has delayed the container being picked up. We have secured a truck to pick up the container, and, as of now, it is scheduled to be delivered to Stampin’ Up! on Friday. We will post an update as soon as they are available.”

So – you should be able to go to my online store today sometime and order the Butterfly Framelits – here’s the info again on the special offer:

BUTTERFLY THINLITS SPECIAL PURCHASE OPPORTUNITY!

Starting from the day that the Butterflies Thinlits are again available and then continuing through April 30, there will be two special offers:

Happy Happy Happy Birthday card

So – how many of you had a hard time getting up this morning??  I sort of did, I guess.  It’s always hard to lose that hour – I’m sometimes awake at 4 am anyway – but…..if your ALARM goes off at 5am, and your body thinks that’s really 4am, and you want to sleep ’till 6, which is really 5, but it’s a work day, so you gotta get up at 5 which is really 4….whoa whoa whoa – back outta the rabbit hole, Mare.  Sorry – that one just sucked me in.  It’s like…if you go back in time, and you change something and that changes the future and then you’re never born, could you have gone back in the first place — never mind.  Sorry.  Again. Fortunately, we all know that – at least as far as daylight savings goes – in a few days, we’ll be all back to normal.

Let’s get to the reason y’all showed up here today – at whatever time it is.  A card share!  Today, I’ve gone back to a fun die set – the Hello You Thinlits, which I got bundled with the Crazy About You stamp set (yep, 15% savings right there!).  And, I used some of the Sale-A-Bration Best Year Ever DSP.  Have a look-see:

Even though Cajun Craze isn’t one of the colors in the Best Year Ever DSP, Crushed Curry IS – and Cajun Craze DOES go well with Crushed Curry.  So, I decided to take a chance and pulled out my Cajun Craze card stock.  Using the “happy” die (just in case you were wondering which one I’d picked – duh, Mary!), I cut out a bunch.  If you CASE this, don’t forget to put your piece of wax paper between your CS and the die.  These words – like some other fine-detail dies – are a bit hard to get out of the die otherwise.  With the wax paper where it belonged, these popped out right fine.

I used some 2-way glue to adhere them to a piece of the Best Year Ever DSP, kind of haphazardly.  I don’t remember the movie, but my head plays a scene in which an actress is bouncing around gleefully, sort of singing “happy…happy…happy….”  Anyone know the movie?  Drop me a comment down below and let me know what it is.  Any-who, with that picture in my head, I kind of wanted to reflect that sentiment “happy….happy…..happy….” and didn’t get too het up about perfect spacing.

I inked up the sentiment from the Crazy About You set in Chocolate Chip and stuck it down in the corner.  I SNAIL’d the whole thing to a Sahara Sand CS mat and then got busy with my Hearts Border Punch and made myself a whole passel of little hearts, which I proceeded to let run amok (“amok amok amok” – another movie reference….) on the card front.  No rhyme.  No reason.  Just kept sticking them down until I got tired of doing it and thought it looked right.

I added a little Rhinestone to each heart.  Well, to be truthful, at first, I made a tiny bow out of some Linen Thread and stuck it to the topmost left tiny heart.  And put a Rhinestone on each of the others.  And then decided I didn’t LIKE the bow there, and carefully pulled it off (fortunately, the Liquid Glue hadn’t set up yet) and replaced it with a Rhinestone.  And deemed it good!

I popped some SU Dimenstionals on the back of the layered piece and stuck it to my Cajun Craze card base, and then turned my attention to the inside of the card.

Remember the little Linen Thread bow?  Well, I couldn’t let it go to waste, right?  And I didn’t!  For the inner note card area, I added another sentiment from Crazy About You (did this in two stamps – “For” and “You”) to a piece of Whisper White CS. Then, I punched a Cajun Craze heart with my Sweetheart Punch and used some Multipurpose Liquid Glue (sparingly!!) to stick it on the card. And glued that darn little bow right in the middle of it – which I decided was so clever and didn’t even look like I was just being kind of ridiculously frugal….well, you be the judge!

With the right tools, this card goes together lickety-split (that’s pretty fast!) and I think will be a fun card to give (or get) for a birthday!  I also kind of think that even with the bling, it’s not too girly that you could’t give it to a man for his birthday.  Do you agree?

BLENDABILITIES QUALITY ISSUES

Stampin’ Up! released the following announcement about the Blendabilities line.  While this is disappointing, it’s something of a testament to the company that they’re addressing an issue they find unacceptable in an up-front manner.  At this point, I don’t know exactly what the issue is, but I’ll bring you guys more information as I get it.

——————–

February 27, 2015
We are experiencing a quality issue with our Blendabilities product line. Except for the Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad (item #132708) and the Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad Refill (item #133456), all item numbers have been turned off; this includes Blendabilities Sale-A-Bration item numbers.

At this time, backorders for Blendabilities will not be fulfilled.

We thank you for your patience and will update you as soon as we have more information.

Seeing Double Happy Birthday Cards!

Tuesday happens.  Usually right after Monday!  Says Captain Obvious.  And what does that have to do with today’s post?  Not much OTHER than the fact that Tuesday heralds the arrival of BRAND NEW WEEKLY DEALS!  See what’s on offer this week at the bottom of this post.  Hint:  there’s a lot of good Valentine’s Day card tools for you!

So – last week, I faced a conundrum brought on by my very severe case of procrastination.  Last Saturday was our friends twin boys 22nd birthday (I’m sure an apostrophe is needed somewhere here, but….?).  Now, I totally knew that.  My phone obediently told me – on THURSDAY! – that their birthday was Saturday.  Did I respond then?  Of course! – I ran out and got a couple of presents and then I sat down and toiled over two wonderful cards for them.  They were unique.  They were the same and yet different (as things for twins often are).  I spent hours on both of them.  She said – never.  For certain I did nothing of the kind.  I TOLD myself to do all those things and then….I didn’t.

Saturday rolls around and it’s getting time to head over for birthday dinner.  I cleverly and creatively determine that the very best gift for young men is something that always fits.  Is always the right size.  Is versatile in the extreme.  Cash!  And then I sit down at my craft table and think…..now what?

Below is what I came up with.  I think, considering I didn’t use any Blog sketches or ideas from anywhere other than my very own noggin, that they turned out pretty good.  And, considering how quickly I made them both – they certainly qualify as Quick and Easy!

Both Birthday 1 Watermarked

Both cards started with Crumb Cake Cut and Ready card bases.  These are so beyond handy to have!  Both cards are matted with card stock – Night of Navy and Cajun Craze (I’ll trust your deductive reasoning to determine which went where!).  For the blue card, the front started with a piece of Typeset DSP, that I sponged with Night of Navy ink.  After I SNAIL’d the DSP to the CS, I “stitched” the edge of the CS with my white gel pen.

Blue Birthday 2 Watermarked

I cut the tag from a piece of Night of Navy CS, using the Chalk Talk Framelits, and then stamped it with a background wood-grain stamp in white.  Mine is a generic one that I’ve had in my stash for a while, but the stamp that comes with the Build a Bouquet stamp set would work swimmingly well (probably better!).  And then “stitched” it up – by now, I was apparently going for a “denim-y” theme.

The sentiment is from Sassy Salutations in white on Night of Navy CS, also cut with one of the dies in the Chalk Talk set.  Also stitched.  I SNAIL’d them to the card front and then glued a bow made from a little piece of Painted Blooms Cotton Twine (Occasions catalog) to the top of the tag.  The front is popped out with Dimensionals onto the card base.

The other card again started with a mat, and this time I used a piece of the Motley Monsters DSP (OBTW – I just checked this morning, and this cute DSP is still available in the Clearance Rack for only $4.39!).  I sponged the edges with some Crumb Cake ink and SNAIL’d it to it’s Cajun Craze mat.

Wood Birthday 1 Watermarked

Then I cut a couple of “happy” die cuts with the Hello You Thinlits (Occasions).  One is Cajun Craze and the other is black.  I used some multipurpose liquid glue to adhere them together – just to give it a little depth.  I used a little more to glue the happy layers to the card front.  Note: SU Multipurpose Liquid Glue is excellently strong and a little goes a long way!  The second part of the sentiment is cut using the Note Tag Punch (Occasions) from more of the woody Motley Monsters DSP, edges sponged and the sentiment (from the Crazy About You bundle that I bought with the Hello You Thinlits!) inked with Crumb Cake ink.  I layered that piece on another Note Tag punched from Cajun Craze CS – a little offset to create a “shadow” – and then stuck it under the Happy with some SNAIL and glued a tiny Linen Thread bow on.  I popped it with Dimensionals on to the card base, and called both cards complete.

At this point, I would usually show you the inside of my cards.  But, I forgot to take any pictures, so….that would be hard to do.  Or, even, impossible!  But, they each had a piece of Very Vanilla CS put into them to give me a place to write, and I stamped the liners with “Celebrate”, from the Good Greetings set, in Night of Navy and Crumb Cake respectively (and amazingly I even got the right color into the right card!).  Wayne and I wrote a little note, added the show-me-the-money-honey, and off we went to dinner! And – unless they happen to read this blog, they’ll never know that I didn’t do all this on Thursday when my phone Notification went off – thereby preserving my reputation as an organizational wizard (she says again – never!).

Both Birthday 2 Watermarked

So – a couple of ideas for quick birthday cards.  Hope that you like them, and can/do add them to your cards-on-hand-for-those-“sudden”-emergencies! ;0

One other little piece of “fun” stuff.  I spent some time last Saturday with Amy Koenders and Sue Prather at the Heritage Rubber Stamp show up in Lawrenceville (Heather Van Looy was there for a little bit, but had to leave soon after I arrived).  Finally got to meet Amy in person, after having e-mailed with her and joined the company because of her (my husband says “Thank you very much, Amy!).  We had a great time – and met a lot of fun folks who stopped by to make our completely cute make-and-takes (designed by the very talented Sue).  They featured the new Bow Builder Punch – which is really great and easy to use (I’d never used it before Saturday and was able to pick it up by watching a couple be made – so, yea, it’s pretty easy!).  It’s definitely on my wish-list now.  Anyway – here’s a couple of pics of the festivities! That’s me on the left-left!
