Sheer Perfection Vellum Makes a Very Happy Birthday!

I am in love with this new Sale-A-Bration Sheer Perfection Vellum Designer Stack!  It has the prettiest designs and they’re just begging to be colored with SU markers (full disclosure – this one is done with the Blendabilities, but… the Stampin’ Write Markers will work just as well.  Just color on the back – same as the Blendies – and let them dry really well – might even use the low setting on your heat tool to hurry the process!).  Any-who….I used the first design from the stack on my wedding card from last week.  For today, I decided to try the vines pattern.  Take a look-see!

I love Wild Wasabi and Pink Pirouette together – I just think it’s beautiful – and adding pearls and the new vellum really puts it over the top!  I started with my normal size card base in Wild Wasabi and a mat in Pink Pirouette.  For the first part of the art piece, I stamped several of the butterflies from the new Sale-A-Bration freebie item Nature’s Perfection in Crumb Cake – kind of randomly all over a piece of Very Vanilla Card Stock.  Then I colored them all in with bright, even tropical colors.  Hey – they’re MY little butterflies!  They can be however colorful I want them to be! Who’s to say they have to look “real”!?!? 😉

Then, I pulled out my chosen vellum, and colored the back of the paper with my Wild Wasabi Blendabilities.  I used all three shades of the same color and just tried to spread them all around evenly.  But without worrying about it too much – cause Mother Nature doesn’t, so…..

I adhered the vellum to the Very Vanilla piece with some glue dots in the 4 corners, and a couple in the very center, where I knew they’d be covered by my sentiment.

The sentiment pieces are both cut from Very Vanilla with the Chalk Talk Framelits dies.  I stamped the top in Mossy Meadow using my fave sentiment set – Sassy Salutations!  And then I sponged up the bottom piece with more Mossy Meadow – and took a second to sponge the edges of the sentiment tag, too.  Just to pull it all together, dontcha know!

I SNAIL’d the bottom tag to the vellum and then wrapped a few wraps of Blushing Bride Baker’s Twine around the card front, securing it in the back with regular ole tape.  The sentiment got popped on with some Dimensionals.  Pearl Basic Jewels in each corner hid those glue dots AND finished the card off.  Two birds with 4 pearls, as it were.

I SNAIL’d the entire layered piece to the card base and the card front was done!

The inside got a liner of Very Vanilla and a few quick Crumb Cake butterflies.  I decided I liked them just plain and so the card was finis!

You’ve been reading that the Blendies have been on ordering hold, due to quality issues in manufacturing. Due to the nature of the defect, Stampin’ Up! has concluded that difficulties, dissatisfaction, and product returns will only become more widespread. The manufacturer is unable to correct the problem in a manner the company is certain would meet our high quality standards and provide us with a stable, long-term solution. Therefore, after a great deal of deliberation and in order to prevent further disappointment, the Blendabilities product line has been discontinued. If you have Blendabilities that you feel are defective, please let me know and I’ll guide you through what to do next. Hopefully SU will find a new source for alcohol markers – you’ll know just as soon as I do!

Happy Happy Happy Birthday card

So – how many of you had a hard time getting up this morning??  I sort of did, I guess.  It’s always hard to lose that hour – I’m sometimes awake at 4 am anyway – but…..if your ALARM goes off at 5am, and your body thinks that’s really 4am, and you want to sleep ’till 6, which is really 5, but it’s a work day, so you gotta get up at 5 which is really 4….whoa whoa whoa – back outta the rabbit hole, Mare.  Sorry – that one just sucked me in.  It’s like…if you go back in time, and you change something and that changes the future and then you’re never born, could you have gone back in the first place — never mind.  Sorry.  Again. Fortunately, we all know that – at least as far as daylight savings goes – in a few days, we’ll be all back to normal.

Let’s get to the reason y’all showed up here today – at whatever time it is.  A card share!  Today, I’ve gone back to a fun die set – the Hello You Thinlits, which I got bundled with the Crazy About You stamp set (yep, 15% savings right there!).  And, I used some of the Sale-A-Bration Best Year Ever DSP.  Have a look-see:

Even though Cajun Craze isn’t one of the colors in the Best Year Ever DSP, Crushed Curry IS – and Cajun Craze DOES go well with Crushed Curry.  So, I decided to take a chance and pulled out my Cajun Craze card stock.  Using the “happy” die (just in case you were wondering which one I’d picked – duh, Mary!), I cut out a bunch.  If you CASE this, don’t forget to put your piece of wax paper between your CS and the die.  These words – like some other fine-detail dies – are a bit hard to get out of the die otherwise.  With the wax paper where it belonged, these popped out right fine.

I used some 2-way glue to adhere them to a piece of the Best Year Ever DSP, kind of haphazardly.  I don’t remember the movie, but my head plays a scene in which an actress is bouncing around gleefully, sort of singing “happy…happy…happy….”  Anyone know the movie?  Drop me a comment down below and let me know what it is.  Any-who, with that picture in my head, I kind of wanted to reflect that sentiment “happy….happy…..happy….” and didn’t get too het up about perfect spacing.

I inked up the sentiment from the Crazy About You set in Chocolate Chip and stuck it down in the corner.  I SNAIL’d the whole thing to a Sahara Sand CS mat and then got busy with my Hearts Border Punch and made myself a whole passel of little hearts, which I proceeded to let run amok (“amok amok amok” – another movie reference….) on the card front.  No rhyme.  No reason.  Just kept sticking them down until I got tired of doing it and thought it looked right.

I added a little Rhinestone to each heart.  Well, to be truthful, at first, I made a tiny bow out of some Linen Thread and stuck it to the topmost left tiny heart.  And put a Rhinestone on each of the others.  And then decided I didn’t LIKE the bow there, and carefully pulled it off (fortunately, the Liquid Glue hadn’t set up yet) and replaced it with a Rhinestone.  And deemed it good!

I popped some SU Dimenstionals on the back of the layered piece and stuck it to my Cajun Craze card base, and then turned my attention to the inside of the card.

Remember the little Linen Thread bow?  Well, I couldn’t let it go to waste, right?  And I didn’t!  For the inner note card area, I added another sentiment from Crazy About You (did this in two stamps – “For” and “You”) to a piece of Whisper White CS. Then, I punched a Cajun Craze heart with my Sweetheart Punch and used some Multipurpose Liquid Glue (sparingly!!) to stick it on the card. And glued that darn little bow right in the middle of it – which I decided was so clever and didn’t even look like I was just being kind of ridiculously frugal….well, you be the judge!

With the right tools, this card goes together lickety-split (that’s pretty fast!) and I think will be a fun card to give (or get) for a birthday!  I also kind of think that even with the bling, it’s not too girly that you could’t give it to a man for his birthday.  Do you agree?

BLENDABILITIES QUALITY ISSUES

Stampin’ Up! released the following announcement about the Blendabilities line.  While this is disappointing, it’s something of a testament to the company that they’re addressing an issue they find unacceptable in an up-front manner.  At this point, I don’t know exactly what the issue is, but I’ll bring you guys more information as I get it.

We are experiencing a quality issue with our Blendabilities product line. Except for the Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad (item #132708) and the Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad Refill (item #133456), all item numbers have been turned off; this includes Blendabilities Sale-A-Bration item numbers.

At this time, backorders for Blendabilities will not be fulfilled.

Birthday Bash Blog Hop!

Today is the February Happy Stampers Blog Hop!  The theme this month is Birthday projects – which is timely, since a bunch of us signed up to be part of the Birthday Bomb.  That’s where the people who sign up all send a B-day card to everyone else on the list on their birthday (was that the Department of Redundancy Department?!?!).  So everyone gets a bunch of wonderful, handmade SU-product birthday cards.  Fun, huh?  This hop theme gives us all a chance to pump up our stash of b-day cards to use for the bomb and all our friends and relatives through the year.  Several of us threw our hats in the ring this month to take part in the hop, so be sure to check out the other ladies’ projects after you browse thru mine! AND – the part I know you’re waiting for! – we’re all giving out a little sumpin-sumpin for Blog Candy (best kind of candy there is!), so be sure to see them all!

Getcha a cuppa something yummy and stretch out a little bit.  We’re each sharing two projects today so this is gonna be a long one!

My first card for you was inspired by Mojo Monday Sketch 386:

mojo386This is a tall and skinny design and so I did some mental math to be sure that what I ended up with would fit in a Stampin’ Up Medium Envelope (it does, with plenty of room for the embellishments). See what you think:

I used the Best Year Ever DSP (Sale-A-Bration) as a color-jumping-off-point, starting with a Sahara Sand tall-and-skinny card base.  I built the front of the card by starting with a Whisper White Card Stock panel that I stamped with the Something Lacy background stamp in Crumb Cake.  The horizontal piece is from the Best Year Ever DSP and is SNAIL’d right to the stamped mat.

I built the next layer by embossing a piece of Whisper White CS with the Lovely Lace Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and adhering it to another Sahara Sand Card Stock mat with SNAIL.  I wrapped some Crushed Curry Baker’s Twine around the layered piece, securing it on the back with some plain tape.  Then I stamped another piece of Whisper White CS with the flower image in the Crazy About You stamp set and cut it out with the Flower Medallion punch. (Attention.  This is a funds-efficiency public service announcement:  this punch can be bundled with the Petal Potpourri Stamp set in the Occasions catalog.  AND – it also punches this flower in Crazy About You.  That’s what we call getting more bang for your buck! We now return you to your regularly scheduled Blog Hop).

I ran another little piece of Crushed Curry Baker’s Twine through one of the little metal buttons in the Occasions Catalog Artisan Embellishment Kit and made a little bow.  Uhh – it’s all just kinda….”little”, I guess! ;0  Then I glued it to the center of the flower with Multipurpose Liquid Glue, and Dimensional’d the whole thing to the front of the mat.  The sentiment comes from the Itty Bitty Banner Bundle and is stamped in Crushed Curry and cut with the matching die in the Big Shot.  Then I SNAIL’d it to a piece of the Best Year Ever DSP and fussy cut a little mat out.  I SNAIL’d it to the mat, aligning it below the wrapped baker’s twine and under the flower.

Adhering the whole layered front mat to the card base with Dimensionals finished up the front of the card.  I treated the inside to a Whisper White liner, with a couple of leftover pieces of Sahara Sand CS and some more Best Year Ever DSP.

Just to finish everything off, I used a final scrap piece of the DSP to line the inside of a Crumb Cake Medium Envelope flap.  And here’s how the whole thing turned out!

I think it turned out kind of pretty and I like the kind of tone-on-tone thing goin’ on with the pops of complementary colors.

Y’all still with me?  Good.  I’ll wait a few minutes if you need to take a break…..10….9….8….7….6….5 4 3 2 1! And, we’re back.

Card two was inspired by my little ole brain.  I kind of stayed with a similar color theme, but with a different twist.  And, for some reason, I wanted it to be a small note card, so I used the measurements of the SU Note Cards and Envelopes.

Ever since reading about coloring on vellum with the Blendabilities, I’d been wanting to give it a try, and I really wanted to color that gorgeous flower branch in the Indescribable Gift set (it’s not just for Easter!).  Here’s what I came up with – take a look-see!

First I stamped the flower image onto a piece of vellum with Versamark Ink and sprinkled it with SU Early Espresso Embossing Powder.  I carefully heat embossed it, keeping my heat tool moving.  It did curl the vellum a little bit, but I lightly heated the back side while speaking steely to it and it straightened out and flew right.  Then, I got down to the fun stuff!  I pulled out my Pink Pirouette, Wild Wasabi, Calypso Coral and the Skin Tone Assortment Blendabilities.  I colored with the Pink Pirouette first, flooding with the light color and then blending in the medium and darker colors.  Trick here is to do small sections at a time, so that the colors blend all by themselves.  Then, I used the lightest Calypso Coral to just touch on some of the darker “shaded” areas.  The leaves got a similar treatment (okay, no Calypso Coral on those), with the Wild Wasabi blendies.  I used the two darkest pens in the Skin Tone Assortment for the branches.  Then I patiently let it all dry.  No, not really so patiently!

But dry it finally was, so I used a little liquid glue to adhere it to a Sahara Sand CS mat (staying as close to the edges as possible), and then SNAIL’d all THAT to a Pink Pirouette mat. Using some scraps of Sahara Sand, I cut the “frame” pieces out with the Edgelits die (foreshadowing here….blog candy……) and adhered them over the edge of the vellum with tiny dabs of Liquid Multipurpose Glue.  I made sure the corners were as straight and lined up as possible and then sort of finished them off with 4 of the smallest pearls in the Artisan Embellishment Kit.  Then,  I stamped the sentiment from the Petite Pairs set in Crumb Cake and wrapped some Blushing Bride Baker’s Twine around and finished it with a nice little bow.

Adhering the mat art to the Sahara Sand card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals finished off the front of the card!

On the inside, I stamped part of the same flower image in the bottom corner of a piece of Whisper White CS and colored it in the manner as the front image.  I completed the sentiment from Petite Pairs in Crumb Cake and called it a day!

Painted Blooms, Butterflies and Irresistibly Yours for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop!

Happy Thursday – and welcome to the first Happy Stampers Blog Hop of 2015!  This is my first hop, and I’m really excited to be included with the other talented ladies who are taking part.  One of the coolest parts of stamping is how everyone can, with roughly the same tools, come up with an almost endless variety of ideas.  Blog hops really illustrate how versatile these products are.  So, once you’ve checked out my projects, be sure to go to each of their blogs to enjoy their creations.  Take a minute to leave each of us a comment, because, in addition to some great ideas, we’re all giving away a little Blog Candy, too!  For this hop, we’ll all show you a card made with some Occasions catalog product(s) and one with Sale-a-Bration product(s).

My design inspiration for this card was Mojo Monday Sketch #380.  And, as I looked at the supplies I’d chosen, I gratefully stepped back into my color-palette wheelhouse.

This card started with a Crumb Cake Cut and Ready card base, with the corners rounded.  I sponged the edges of a piece of Typeset DSP with my Crumb Cake ink, and then SNAIL’d it to an Old Olive Cardstock mat.  Using a couple of the stamps in the Butterfly Basics set, I inked the Typeset with some honeycomb and frond images, using Crushed Curry and Old Olive respectively (I stamped each one off on scrap paper first and then stamped twice without re-inking).  I rounded the corners and SNAIL’d the whole thing to the card base.  Then, I colored two pieces of the Irresistibly Yours DSP – one with the lightest Wild Wasabi Blendability Marker and the other with the lightest Crumb Cake Blendability – and wiped the excess off the “resist” areas with a paper towel.  This DSP is so cool and versatile – you can make it be any color you want it to be (sponge ink on, spritz it on, use a Blenadability, etc), and it’s also pretty in it’s natural white-on-white state.  And, because it’s a Sale-a-Bration item, you can still get a stack FREE with a $50 purchase through 31 Mar!  Each piece was matted to the opposite color – the Old Olive on a Crumb Cake mat and the Crumb Cake on an Old Olive mat. I put these on with SNAIL as well, since I knew I wanted to pop my sentiment and the butterfly.

I stamped my sentiment in Old Olive on a piece of Vanilla Cardstock and then added a Crumb Cake flower.  Both of these are in the Butterfly Basics set – this one gives you a lot of stamping power for your money – and was the first thing I ordered when the Occasions catalog came out.  Please note that, sadly, it was far from the ONLY thing I ordered! LOL  After I lightly edged the CS with some more Crumb Cake, I popped it onto the card with some Stampin’ Dimensionals.  My Butterfly was stamped twice in Old Olive (on Very Vanilla) and cut out twice with the Thinlit Die that matches it.  I colored in one butterfly with my lightest Crumb Cake Blendability.  Then I layered them on the card front with SNAIL – the top one, I only attached the center third or so of the butterfly, and then put a little tiny piece of Stampin’ Dimensional under each wing – I wanted them to stay up even after going into an envelope.  I finished off the front with some Pearl Basic Jewels on the butterfly and in the center of the flower.

For the inside, I inked the edges of a piece of Vanilla CS with the honeycomb stamp, again with the Crushed Curry, and lightly sponged it with more Crumb Cake.  The sentiment is in Old Olive, from the Good Greetings Hostess set.

I must say, I really like working with this color combo – and this card turned out to be one of my very favorites!  You can find the card cuts below.  But first, on to card two – my Occasions Catalog share!  Everyone stand up, stretch a little – maybe get a snack or another cuppa ….  long blog post today!

This one started with another great sketch from Mojo Monday – this time is was #381.  And, since I wanted to use the Painted Blooms DSP, I let it drive the colors.

This color combo is very spring-y and feminine, and I like it – it’s just a little harder for me to work with than the more earthy tones in the first card.  But, I’m learning and trying to expand my comfort zone and I think it turned out well.  I started out with an Old Olive Cut and Ready Card Base (Annual Catalog).  I cut a 2 3/4″ circle from the top part of the Whisper White Mat, and then cut a slightly larger (next size up in the Circles Collection dies) round of the Painted Blooms DSP (Occasions catalog).  That stack has many beautiful paper patterns, but this one is my favorite.  I SNAIL’d the DSP circle to a Pink Pirouette CS mat.  I wanted a little more detailing on my white mat, so I used the fine-point end of my Pistachio Pudding Stampin’ Write Marker to make “stitches”.  I wanted it to look hand-stitched – which, for me, means not-so-even-and-perfect.  Pretty sure I nailed that one!

I adhered the white mat with Stampin’ Dimensionals to the Pink Pirouette mat, making sure the DSP was under the opening, and centered so the edges of the DSP weren’t visible.

I made my sentiment banner by SNAIL-ing my Whisper White CS to a Pink Pirouette mat and then stamping the sentiment from the Sassy Salutations set in Blackberry Bliss.  I gave that the hand-stitched treatment as well.  The banner is SNAIL’d to the larger white mat – obviously there’s only SNAIL on the ends that actually TOUCH the mat!

Then came the really fun part!  I’d been itching to use the gorgeous, detailed dies in the Butterfly Thinlits set.  I ran the medium butterfly through the Big Shot, using wax paper and my Magnetic Platform.  The beauty of this butterfly means there are a lot of little pieces to clean out of the die cut.  With the wax paper, I was easily able to push them all out with my craft pick.  Tip:  leave the die cut IN the die while you push out all the little pieces.  It stabilizes the cut and helps a lot.  Then, I ran that die cut BACK through the Big Shot, this time in my Lovely Lace Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  I think it adds a subtle little sump’n-sump’n to the butterfly.  I repeated the cutting and pushing-of-pieces on a second butterfly, this time with white CS.  Then I layered them onto the card with SNAIL – a little offset from each other, just to add a little more depth.  He got a few little Pearl Basic Jewels and the front was finished!

On the inside, I “stitched” a white CS liner, and SNAIL’d a few (okay – this time, 4 just looked right – please excuse me for decorating with an EVEN number – no need to call the Decoration Police!) Bitty Butterflies, made with the SU punch of the same name, in Pink Pirouette.  I stitched all of THEM, too.  Appears I got on a sewing binge, which is quite odd, considering I can’t really sew a stitch! I once tried to make a t-shirt and cut two backs out.  Yea – sewing is not my thing!

Lotus Blossom Love

Good morning!  Happy Tuesday – My share today uses the 2015 Sale-a-Bration Lotus Blossom stamp set.  I chose this as one of my FREE items when I spent $50  – and you can, too!  Sale-a-Bration runs through 31 March.  Don’t miss this opportunity to get some exclusive Stampin’ Up! products.

To tell you the truth, I’ve been a little afeered of this particular stamp set.  It’s a Two-Step set (well, it actually has 3 steps), and every time I tried to make a beautiful, artistic lotus blossom, I ended up with a blob.  An uneven, weird-looking, blob.  And then, I finally remembered a tip I’d seen about photopolymer stamps.  Are you taking notes?  Photopolymer stamps don’t have a built-in cushion like the clear or wood-mount stamps.  So, if you stamp directly onto your hard crafting surface, you’re likely to get less-than-ideal results (that’s code for “uneven, weird-looking, blob”).  The trick is to place your cardstock on a cushioned mat – like….a piercing mat.  So – I did that. And, guess what?  Yup.  A lotus blossom emerged!

I once again went to a Whisper White note card from the Note Cards and Envelopes set.  I SNAIL’d a Whisper White mat onto a Basic Black mat, and my art piece was ready to go.  I had this vision in my head of a very monochromatic card with just a bare pop of color.  So, I used my Basic Black ink and my Blackberry Bliss for the lotus blossom.  The first two steps, I did with the black.  The third step, I inked up and then stamped off once on scrap paper with the Blackberry Bliss ink before I applied it to the flower image.  And – I loved how it looked!  Okay – I did that like 3 times on scrap cardstock before I girded my loins (sorry for saying loins on the internet) and stamped my card front.  And breathed a sigh of relief, cause it looked great.  It’s a little hard to see in the picture below, but the flower really DOES have a lovely Blackberry tint.

For the stem, I did the first stamp (the stem has two parts, too) in black.  Then I hemmed and hawed a while – green?  Stay with black?  More blackberry bliss –  that’s crazy talk!!  Oh – the decisions.  I finally settled on Mossy Meadow – which I stamped off lightly once and then barely, lightly, oh-so-delicately stamped over the black stem.  And then I did it a little harder, cause I didn’t want it to be THAT delicate!  Oh yea – still holding my breath with every stamp I make!

I cut a “You” out of Basic Black with the Hello You Thinlits Die (remembering to use my wax paper – see my previous post “Hello You” for directions) and adhered it with a little Liquid Glue.  Then, I used a sentiment from the Crazy About You stamp set (2015 Occasions) in Blackberry Bliss.  And also Basic Black.  Dip a little in the Black, dip a little in the Blackberry Bliss.  Stamp with the piercing mat.  And then barely, lightly, oh-so-delicately traced the words with my Blackberry Bliss Stampin’ Write Marker – cause I didn’t want THAT to be quite so delicate either!  I’m so sorry this color is hard to see in the picture – I promise my next purchase will be an Ott Lite so that my photography “studio” does a little better job of re-creating the colors.  Promise.

A few Rhinestone Basic Jewels finished off the front and I popped it onto the card base with some Stampin’ Dimensionals.  For the inside, I used the Good Greetings hostess set sentiment “I Love Us” – but I only inked the “Love Us” part, using the Blackberry Bliss marker again.  And I stamped an irregular row of little tiny Blackberry Bliss hearts along the bottom (the heart is part of the Holiday Home stamp set).  And finally, because it just…needed….something else, I made little teensy stems and grass with my Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Write Marker.  And – I resolutely pushed away all my tools and decided to leave well enough alone!

This would be a great Valentine’s Day card.  Or a nice little note tucked away for your spouse or significant other to find.

Hello You

For today’s card I used the 2015 Occasions catalog Crazy About You stamp set, which I have in the photopolymer version, along with the complementary Hello You Thinlits Dies.  Stampin’ Up! very kindly bundles them up for us, and let’s us save some money! I used the Freshly Made Sketches Sketch #170 as my inspiration.

I like note cards like this – ones that can be sent or given for almost any reason.  Maybe just because it’s a beautiful, crisp day in January, the days are getting longer and there’s the promise that maybe a person could go outside without putting on a thousand layers of clothes!  Or not – heck, it’s still only in the 50’s here.  For me (and my poor hubs, who puts his insulated covers on when it’s any cooler than 45!) it’s still chilly.  My mom would just smile and look at the thermometer on her deck, where it’s likely reading 20 or so today.  But, I digress.  As I was saying, these are good kinds of cards to have in your card stash – to send whenever the mood strikes!  Make this one today!

Hello You Card Front 1 watermarked

This one took me a minute – I started with a note card from the Stampin’ Up Note Cards and Envelopes set in Whisper White.  This is a great deal – you get 20 cards and 20 envelopes for under $6!  And they’re nicely weighted cardstock, making for a classy feel for your masterpiece.  But, they’re a little smaller than the cards I’ve been making, so my card cuts were different.  And the sketch I started with asked for some unusual proportions – for me.  As it turns out, I’m not sure I actually GOT the proportions “right” – but, hey! if I hadn’t mentioned it, no one would know the difference, right?!?  So, this card challenged my math skills and, total disclosure, I now have several pieces of white and Pink Pirouette CS that will be ready to use on another project – if you catch my drift!  But, I’ve worked the numbers out and all the cuts are down below, so this one will be easy-peasy for you to CASE.

I Cut my two Whisper White CS pieces, and embossed the larger of them with the Lovely Lace Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  The bottom piece I left plain – I went back and forth, but finally decided to go with a simpler look.  I layered those pieces on the Pink Pirouette mats and then SNAIL’d them both to a piece of Wild Wasabi CS to create the front of the card.  Play around with the placement of the pieces, until it makes you happy.  Then – stick it down!

Then, I stamped one of the flowers from the Petal Potpourri stamp set in Crushed Curry on a piece of white CS and punched it out with the Flower Medallion Punch.  Yes – I got these as a bundle, as well.  Do you see a purchasing trend for me?  It helps me to say “But, Wayne – I saved quite a bit of money by buying them together.  You DO understand the idea of SPENDING money to SAVE money, right?!?”  He buys that about….never….but, oh well!  Stampin’ Up! gives us a 15% discount when we take advantage of the bundled sets – so, it’s a good deal.  That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.  But wait, I’m not done with my incredible money-saving prowess yet.  Read on!

I pulled out a piece of scrap white CS and stamped it with Mossy Meadow ink, using my Crazy About You photopolymer stamp set.  If you haven’t seen it, it’s in the 2015 Occasions catalog and has a HUGE number of sentiments included – and, if you pair it with the… say-it-with-me… bundled Hello You Thinlits dies…well, the possibilities are almost endless!  I punched the banner end with my Hexagon Punch and then edged the banner with some Old Olive ink.  The sponge daubers work great for edging.

I made the “You” by running the Hello You Thinlit through my Big Shot three times – twice with black CS and once with Pink Pirouette CS, and then I layered the three pieces with liquid glue.  Black – Pink – Black.

A couple of words about these thinlits.  These are small cuts, one might even use the word “persnickety”.  That’s not a bad thing – just a thing, as long as you catch a few tips.  On these, wax paper is your best friend!  Stick a piece of it between the die and the cardstock before you run it through the Big Shot.  That makes the cut push right out of the die – use your craft pick or a similar pointy thing to push it out using the conveniently placed holes in the die.

For adhering it, I originally thought I could use some SNAIL, but – not so much.  I tore the thin little pieces.  Liquid glue worked much better – I just used my silicone craft mat under the die cut, to keep the glue off my work surface.  I was also pretty stingy with it, so it wouldn’t seep out everywhere.

With everything inked and cut and punched and glued and layered, all that remained was to put all the pieces together.  I used SNAIL for the sentiment banner and the flower – and more glue for the “You”.  I colored some Rhinestones with my darkest Pink Pirouette Blendability pen and stuck them on.  Okay – some more disclosure.  I started with 3 jewels.  Then I decided that the flower needed one in the center.  That brought me up to 4 jewels.  I’m not sure who decided it, but there’s the old adage that you should decorate in odd numbers, and even with new math, 4 is not an odd number.  I don’t want to say I’m a mindless follower of old adages, but….it looked weird.  So, I added some more until I had an odd number and liked how it looked.  Might be a bit sparkly for your taste, so you could just put one in the center of the flower and two more on the bottom panel.  If that made you happy.  Or you can be like me and go bling-crazy.   It’s your creation, so it’s all about making you happy!

I didn’t need to put a inner inside the card, since it’s already white and ready to have a note added, but I wanted it to have a little pizzazz, so I inked up a few of the petals in the Painted Petals stamp set (2015 Occasions Catalog) with some Strawberry Slush ink and stamped it twice, without re-inking, across the bottom. And then I repeated that.  I used a little more Old Olive to add a few stems from the same set.  Done!

With the card cuts already figured out, this is a really easy card to put together.  And the design lends itself well to a multitude of sentiment possibilities, many of which are in the Crazy About You stamp set.  You really need to make yourself a set of “just-because-the-sun-was-out-and-I-thought-of-you-today” cards right now!
