Stampin’ Up! Sparkly Seasons Wish You a Happy Halloween!

Fall Back Icon

Well, today’s share almost didn’t happen!  Yesterday, in the middle of making my card – for Halloween! – we went out to feed the horses.  Our big guy – who’s 25 or so (that’s not ancient, but it’s getting up there pretty good), came in with a case of ADR (that’s scientific vet speak for Ain’t Doin’ Right).  He took about 2 bites of his dinner and then began to act – wrong.  It became clear pretty quickly that he was colicing.  Now, when a baby colics – it’s worrisome.  When a horse colics – it’s beyond worrisome.  Colic can – and has! – kill a horse.  And an old horse…well…let’s just say that it gets our attention really fast.

Long story short – after about 2 1/2 hours of walking, doctoring and talking to the vet (and hoping for some….poop!), we finally left him in his stall for the night.  Back in the house at around 9:15pm – still no card done.  But, I persevered – at least I knew what I was going to do.  And – it helped me to stay awake for the 11pm welfare check on the patient!

On a brighter note – when I got home from the grocery store yesterday afternoon, a satisfyingly heavy Stampin’ Up! box was at the gate!  I just love when those kinds of boxes arrive – don’t you?  This was my order that I placed during the 15% off sale!!  Also – on the very same day that 6 new stamp sets arrived – Publix had TWO more of the Ster-i-lite CD boxes!!  Timing is everything!

So – back to the card I made.  I used Sparkly Seasons and its bundled Seasonal Frame Thinlits, paired with some Happy Haunting DSP to bring you Happy Halloween wishes.  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Every Blessing and a Flurry of Wishes for You

We have a grass carp.  Well, probably more than one.  But, in our back pond – there’s just one.  It’s a pretty new pond, you see.  Not a lot of vegetation.  And kind of seasonal.  So we only put one grass carp back there.

Tonight, while the horses were eating, we took a ride down to the back pond.  To check on the grass carp’s welfare.  Please note – we haven’t named the grass carp.  That would be weird.

We noticed a significant lack of….well….grass!  Which immediately caused us consternation and concern.  What to do?  We’re not really sure what a grass carp might eat other than grass.  Maybe some hay?  Some chaff?  Chaff is chopped up hay and a little molasses (our old guy gets that to supplement his other feed).  Perhaps some ragweed?  We gathered up some of each and carefully threw it into the pond.

We don’t want our un-named grass carp to starve.  Obviously.  He’s the only one in the pond.  Do you think he thinks he’s on some barren planet somewhere at the end of a portal (yes, I’ve been watching Marvel – Agents of Shield!)?  Do grass carp think?

It’s not weird to worry about your grass carp.  Right?

Anywho – on to why you stopped by!

I deviated from my normal A2 size card for today’s share.  This one is 5″ x 7″ overall.  I needed that much room to execute the design.  Which was inspired by the Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #292.  Head over there to see what everyone has made, okay?

SSSC 292I used the pretty Every Blessing stamp set – from the Annual Catalog – some flurries of snow from Flurry of Wishes, and a few Lucky Stars!  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Sweetbriar Rose Just a Note

Do you ever have one of those days where it seems all your creative juices have just dried up?  That was me today!  I sat down at my table and….sat. And looked at my stamps.  Admired my new Combo ink holder.  Checked my e-mail to see if my new Ribbon Holder had been delivered – not yet, but by the end of the day, so….checked out all the ribbon I planned to put in it when it arrived.  Made sure I had a place to put it.  Looked at the three or four challenge blog e-mails I had.  Nothing came to my head.

I tried faking it.  You know, fake it till you make it?  I made a couple of dry embossed panels with sponging and stamping in the TIEFs.    One may make an appearance at some point – but one…oh my.  It went from Big Shot to trash can – didn’t even need to think about it.  No fixing it – no salvaging it for something sometime.  Just…toss!

Finally, I got a teensy inkling of what I could put together.  I’d gotten the Mojo Monday challenge – a Tall and Skinny Challenge – and a Stamp, Ink, Paper challenge – a color challenge.  I looked over at my scrap box and saw a piece of Early Espresso that was left over from when I was playing with my Simply Scored Board for Monday’s card.  The Stamp, Ink, Paper colors were….EARLY ESPRESSO, Blushing  Bride and Gold.  I took it as a sign from above.  And I was off!  Well, more …like I was…

Somehow the Sweetbriar Rose came into my head when I thought of the Blushing Bride and Gold together.  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Leaflets and Vintage Leaves and a Golden Thanks

Well, somehow…someway…we’re back at Monday!  I hope that y’all made it thru the time-warp that is the weekend.  We made it just fine – had a nice time with some friends on Saturday evening at their annual bonfire.  Beautiful evening and good friends.  Even made driving home in the dark (something we don’t do a lot of!) very much worth it! 🙂

My share today is inspired by a design from Freshly Made Sketches.  Their sketch #209 is very clean and simple and elegant.  Head over and take a gander when you get a shot.

FMS 209 Sketch

I saw a lovely card that Mary Fish made with this design – check it out here.  I love her card!  And wanted to use some of the elements in a card of my own.

This one is a Thank You card, using the Leaflets Framelits dies and Vintage Leaves (one of my best bundle buys EVER!).  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! A Little Something Cute Personalized Gift Card Holder

Just a quick little project for you today.  We’re headed into the gift giving season – and most of us have a few folks on our list who just sort of….befuddle us….when it comes to what to get for that person.  For some reason, most of those people on my list are guys!  Hmmm.  Not sure why – but there it is.  I always kind of hate to do a gift card – somehow it seems like a cop out.  On the other hand – a gift card always fits, is always the right color, and is usually something they want! I do try to pick gift cards that are suited to that person.  Bass Pro for my hubby (usually in addition to other gifts), Amazon for the twenty-something boys/men who are in college and starting a career.  None of them want a Bed, Bath and Beyond gift card, or a Williams-Sonoma card! 🙂

The Gift Card holder I’ve made to share with you today was a requested item.  My friend has a friend (yes – more than just me!) who has found herself in the unenviable position of having a house full of mice.  Not a couple.  Not even a few.  Apparently – it’s an “infestation”, that she found one evening when she “heard a noise in her kitchen and when she turned the light on, there THEY were”.  The poor woman has spent thousands and thousands of dollars getting rid of the mice and replacing everything she fears might have been “touched”.

So, Jan is giving her a gift card (Bed, Bath and Beyond maybe?!) to help her replace some stuff.  And she asked me for a gift card holder.  With maybe a….mouse…. on it.  She assured me her friend will find it funny!

I’ve put up a Tutorial to show you how to make the basic Gift Card holder using the Envelope Punch Board.  It’s so easy it’s ridiculous.  Check it out here!  So, I made that holder, and then I decorated it according to her request!  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Sweetbriar Rose Joins One Big Meaning!

Good morning, all!  Happy weekend to everyone – I hope that you have fun plans and good weather to do them!

A few days ago, I saw a card that Amy Koenders had done using the beautiful Sweetbriar Rose stamp.  And that reminded me that I’d wanted to add that to my stamp stash.  And so I did, right then, before I could forget again.  And at the same time, I added another long-time “want” – One Big Meaning.  They arrived on Thursday, so I built a card with them for you today.  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Quick Reminder About a Couple of Specials Ending Soon!!

Wanted to take a hot second to remind you that I’m offering an Ordering Special this week!  It’ll end at the same time as Stampin’ Up!’s 15% off Stamp Sale ends….tomorrow evening at 11:55 pm Mountain Time!  That’s 10:55 pm Pacific – Saturday 12:55 am Central – and Saturday 1:55 am Eastern.  If you live in Arizona – sorry! – you’re on your own for the time conversion! I have no idea what time it is there!! 🙂

Funny story – when I was there last week, I was unsure what time it was.  My computer and phone said one thing, and that matched one clock in the room, but the other clock had a different time.  So I called the front desk and asked what time zone we were in.  She said “Uhm…hang on, let me ask”!  Huh?  A moment later, she comes back and says….wait for it…”we’re on Phoenix time”.  Double Huh?!?  Finally, I just asked her to tell me the time.  She was able to answer that – and my ever-so-sharp math skills helped me to deduce that Yuma, AZ was on Pacific Time.

But – that was a whole week ago – so….no telling what it is now! 🙂

So – regardless of your time zone….it’s time to get crackin’ on the TWO specials going on.  Mine – see below, it entails extra FREE stuff!  And Stampin’ Up!’s.  Which gets you 15% off any stamp set (not bundles!) in either catalog!

Don’t miss out.  If it seems like it’s almost Christmas to you, think how fast tomorrow night will get here and whizz right on by ya!! 🙂

TTFN – see you in the morning!
