I’ve Got This!!

Oh my goodness.  Nothing does the heart good like picking up a really HEAVY box from the hotel desk – and seeing “Stampin’ Up!” written on the side…..it was pretty exciting.  But – I made the anticipation last.  I went and got some dinner.  Came back up and ate.  Watched a little tv.  If I maybe gave the box a little stroke on my way by each time – that’s not a bad thing, right?  Finally – I couldn’t stand it any longer and I broke into it.  Nope – didn’t even take a picture of the bounty inside (Warning – Rookie Blogger….).  Just started pulling stuff out.  And turning it over and inspecting everything.  And – quite conscientiously, I thought – putting it all neatly away.  Then I took a little bit and assembled several of the stamp sets.  And went to bed.  Yes, went to bed.  I know – I know.  How did I stand it?  How could I have NOT made a card?!?!  It was pure self-preservation, people!!  It was already 9:30 and the ^$&%* alarm was going off at 4:30am.  Had to sleep – don’t judge me!

But, the NEXT night….I made a card!  I’d promised a friend at work that I’d make a card for him to send to his wife – yes, my learning curve is flat flat flat.  I haven’t even managed to send my mom’s Mother’s Day present and I’m promising people I’ll make cards.  sigh….  But, promise I did, so….  I pulled out the brand spankin’ new You’ve Got This set, and combined it with a going-away-soon set – Lovely Amazing You.  Take a look-see:

Lovely Amazing You Outside 4 watermarkedI did a kinda-sorta CASE of a card I saw in the new catalog.  I SNAIL’d a piece of Whisper White CS to a Tip-Top Taupe (brand new 2015-2017 In Color color) card stock mat.  Then I used the awesome background stamp that comes in the You’ve Got This set (I think it’s really cool that we get a background stamp WITH the usual sentiment and image stamps!) and stamped twice with Crumb Cake ink.  The second time, I turned the stamp sideways and stamped a little lower down.

Lovely Amazing You Outside 1 watermarked

Then I inked up the pretty flower image with the new Watermelon Wonder ink and stamped it right over the background image.  I didn’t think it needed any more coloring than that!  The sentiment – from Lovely Amazing You – is ALSO in Watermelon Wonder.  To finish off the front, I used one of the new 2015-2017 In Color Blossom Accents.  I pulled a few strands from some 1/4″ Burlap Ribbon and glued them onto the stem of the flower with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.  Then I used a couple of glue dots and another dab of the liquid glue to adhere the flower.  I hemmed and hawed a bit between the Cucumber Crush Flower and the Watermelon Wonder.  Finally decided to give a tiny little pop of coordinating color and used the green!

Lovely Amazing You Outside 2 watermarked

I put the mat onto a Watermelon Wonder card base with some Stampin’ Dimensionals – and the front was done!

For the inside, I kept it simple.  I pulled two sentiments from the Hostess Set Good Greetings, and stamped them in Tip-Top Taupe on a piece of Whisper White card stock.  I used my Stamp-a-ma-Jig to get the placement that I wanted.  That thing is just so handy!

Lovely Amazing You Inside 1 watermarkedI used the little heart from another of the new sets – Friendly Wishes – colored with Watermelon Wonder – to accent the sentiment.  I was a little too hesitant with my first stamping effort – so I had to re-stamp my stamp to get the heart to look correct.  Cue the Stamp-a-ma-Jig again! 🙂

With that – the card was done.  I decided to go a little crazy and make an envelope for this one.  What a happy coincidence that I’d ordered a set of the new 2015-2017 In Color Envelope Paper!!  I picked the striped paper (all the paper is solid color on one side and has a pattern on the other) in Watermelon Wonder, and built an envelope with the Envelope Punch Board.  I used Sticky Tape (will still be in the new catalog, but it will now have an easy-tear paper backing) to adhere the sides of my envelope together.  Then I put a couple of strips on the flap for my friend to close his envelope to mail home.

Lovely Amazing You with Envelope 1 watermarked
And – Done!  I really love how easy the Stampin’ Up! color coordination makes it to create cohesive sets.  Takes a whole lot of the guess-work out of it!

Hope that you like this share – and will consider the You’ve Got This and Friendly Wishes sets for your stash.

When you see the products used in this card  (below), remember that you’ll be able to click on all of them, but you won’t be able to order the new products until 2 June. Hey!  If you were a demonstrator, you COULD order the new products right now just like I did!  Whatcha think?  Give me a holler and let’s get you all hooked up!

It’s  a gorgeous day here in California – after being downright yucky icky yesterday.  Hope you’re having a wonderful Saturday.  Anyone seen the new Avengers yet?!!?  I haven’t had a shot yet, but I hope to get to see it in IMAX 3-D.  If you HAVE seen it – let me know how it was, okay?

Adventure Bound Hex’s

Tick tock tick tock….I’m counting the minutes until my order of new SNEAK PEAK 2015-2016 Annual Catalog toys arrives!!  Whoo-hoo!  In the meantime, I’ve got a quick and easy card to share with you today.  This design is very very versatile.  Change up the color of the die cut, use a different DSP and all of a sudden, a card very much suited for a man becomes more feminine.  Change “Happy” to “Hello” (from the same Hello You thinlit set – which is in the new catalog, OBTW!).  Use a different sentiment stamp….and you could have a really cute new baby card.  Take a look-see at what I’m talkin’ about:

Vintage Flower

Well, if you’ve been following my blog (thank you!), you’ll have realized that this posting is late!  I try to post something new to share on Friday morning – but it’s quite obviously NOT morning.  Or Friday!  If you were anxiously waiting by your e-mail for notice that I’d posted – many mea culpas (and also thank you again!). I’ve been flat covered up this week at work and last night?  Well, I looked at my card pics sitting patiently in my computer waiting to be watermarked and described and posted….and watched Grey’s Anatomy.  My plan was to blog.  Just like the night before.  When I watched Scandal instead.  Do you guys watch Scandal?  Scott Foley.  Hello?  Mmmmm-mmmm.  But, I digress….again.

For this week’s share, I decided to use a little more of the soon-to-be-gone Adventure Bound DSP.  The design I chose helped to drive the final outcome and the overall flavor of rustic/vintage.  Take a look-see:

Vintage Flower Outside 1 watermarked

I started with my flower.  First, using the Fun Flower punch (which is going to be available in the NEW catalog, too!), I cut out 5 flowers from two different patterns of the Typeset DSP.  Three of the flowers got a little age added to them with some Soft Suede sponged on the petals.  The other two I added a dab of color to with some sponged on Night of Navy.  Then, using the edge of my bone folder, I lightly curled the petals – like you’d curl wrapping paper ribbon.  Just a little – and when you do this, be gentle.  The Typeset DSP is thin – which makes it easy to tear.  But it also makes it curl perfectly!  I stacked up the flowers – alternating the colors – using Multipurpose Liquid Glue – and offsetting everything just enough to make the flower.  If you want to see how to make a slightly different kind of flower, head over to the Tutorials page!

Vintage Flower Close-up watermarked

To make the center, I made a little Linen Thread bow and cut out a Petite Petal flower from Night of Navy and one from the Typeset DSP (which got a little Soft Suede ink-if-ication) and pulled out a Something Borrowed embellishment.  Then I stacked those all on top of the flower with some more of the liquid glue and set it all aside to dry.  And then picked it back up to admire it.  And then set it aside again!  I am ridiculously enamored with how this flower turned out! 🙂

For the sentiment tag, I used the Thoughts and Prayers sentiment in Night of Navy, on a piece of Sahara Sand card stock.  I punched the end with the Hexagon Punch, sponged the edges with a little more Night of Navy, and SNAIL’d it to a similarly prepared piece of Night of Navy Card Stock.

For the card front, I SNAIL’d the Adventure Bound piece to a Night of Navy mat.  And then, due to my usual messy-self-osity, I saw a teensy smudge of Night of Navy ink on my pretty “wooden” panel.  So, I covered it up with a length of 7/8″ Sahara Sand lace ribbon!  Which actually turned out to be a pretty good idea….

At that point, I had a flower, a sentiment tag, and a card front.  And as I tried to lay the card out in my planned-for portrait orientation (with the lace band now sort of driving the location of the flower and sentiment), I just couldn’t make it work.  No flower placement looked right.  The sentiment was too long.  Did I mention at the start that I had not formed an actual PLAN for this card – I just wanted it to be rustic, and I wanted to make this flower (it had been circling in my head for a while – maybe I saw a similar one on Pinterest, I don’t know).  No clue what to DO with it all.  And then my light-bulb “aha!” moment happened – and I turned the card sideways (duh!).  And it was good…..

Vintage Flower Outside 2 watermarked

The flower is adhered with more of the Multi-purpose Liquid Glue, and the sentiment is SNAIL’d on, tucked just slightly under the flower.  At the last minute, I added one little Rhinestone Basic jewel…. then I popped the whole layered card front onto my Sahara Sand card base with some Stampin’ Dimensionals – and the card front was done!

Vintage Flower Outside 1 watermarkedFor the inside, I used a scrap of the Typeset DSP, and cut out some Itty Bitty Accent Flowers from that and some more Petite Petals from the Night of Navy CS.  The Typeset flowers were sponged with a little more Night of Navy, and just barely curled with the bone folder. Each flower got a Rhinestone jewel – to coordinate with the front, and…

Vintage Flower Inside 1 watermarked

…the card was done!  I didn’t put a sentiment on the inside, cause that leaves the range of uses for this card wide open!

I hope that you like this share – and will forgive my tardiness in getting it to you this week.  I should tell you that the next few weeks of posting may be a little sporadic – as I mentioned at the start, work is pretty much taking up my entire energy store right now.  I’ll ask for your patience – don’t give up on me, baby!! 🙂

As I count down the days till I go home, it’s also the count down to the end of the Retiring Products and to the BIG REVEAL of the 2015-2016 Annual Catalog!  My box of catalogs arrived yesterday – and, of course, I’ve gotten to see the Sneak Peek, being a SU! Demonstrator, and all.  And, my order is on it’s way……

Speaking of which – if you’ve ever given any thought to becoming a Stampin’ Up! Lovely as a Tree at Sunset!

If you’re like me, you’ve discovered Pinterest.  There are many MANY wonderful things on Pinterest – recipes, clothes, flowers, gardening ideas, funny memes, and….cards!  Lots and lots and LOTS of cards!  There are some very seriously talented folks on this planet, making cards and paper crafts!  Today’s card springs from a technique I found there – from Amanda Mertz’s lovely blog (http://didyoustamptoday.blogspot.com).  When I saw her card, I was reminded of some of the spectacular sunsets we’e been privy to this past couple of weeks here in the high desert.  Okay – not the forest part so much, but…the sky, for sure!  Between that and the fact that it gave me a great reason to use my newest SU! fave Lovely as a Tree stamp set, and….it was meant to be!  Take a look-see:

Sunset Forest Outside Watermarked

I started by cutting out an oval from some Very Vanilla Card stock – which would become the center art piece.  Then I used a piece of scrap card stock to cut out the next largest oval – which would be my mask.  I rolled a little piece of scotch tape and used it to lightly stick the Very Vanilla card front down onto my Silicon Craft mat.  I secured the art piece oval to the card front with a little dab of Two Way glue (if you let it dry before you stick it down, it’s a temporary adhesive).  Then I put the mask over the whole thing, and taped IT down to the Silicon Mat.  With everything secure, I used my sponge daubers and Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight and Old Olive to create my sky.  I made sure to extend the sky colors off the art oval and into the area that would become the frame.  When you do this, be sure to use a circular motion with your sponge – and start off your art piece.  I made the colors a little darker at the top (Pumpkin Pie) and the bottom (Old Olive).

Sunset Forest with Envelope 2 watermarked

I lifted the mask off, and picked up the art oval.  With the oval completely off the card front, I inked my Lovely as a Tree stamp with Mossy Meadow ink, and stamped it a couple of times without re-inking between stamps.  I did that a couple of times, until I liked my forest.  Then I stuck an Itty Bitty Accent Epoxy star into the sky – I think it evokes that first star in the twilight sky, don’t you?

Sunset Forest Closeup watermarked

I popped the art oval back onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Then I stamped the sentiment from the Sheltering Tree set in Mossy Meadow.  And decided to leave it just that simple.  I SNAIL’d it to a mat of Crushed Curry and then adhered the entire layered card front to a Mossy Meadow Card Base with more Dimensionals, and the card front was done! Yes, you got it right – not a pearl in sight! 🙂

The inside is just as simple – a piece of Very Vanilla Card Stock, with a few more trees stamped around a couple of times.  I added those trees to a Crumb Cake Medium envelope as well, to complete the ensemble.

Sunset Forest Inside 3 watermarkedI really love this card.  I think I’ll probably make another variation – with the Sending Wishes Your Way stamp from the Butterfly Basics set (I think that would be cool – especially given the “first star I see tonight” on the front of the card!).   I hope that you like it, too, and will make some sunsets of your own!

Can you believe there’s less than a month before the Retiring Products are gone – gone – gone?  Time is going by quickly – which means I’ll be home soon!  Whoo-hoo!!  And….wait for it….the NEW CATALOG WILL BE ON THE STREET! 🙂  I’ve gotten a sneak peak and I can tell you there are some really seriously neat new items.  I can’t wait for you all to see it, too!

Today’s the last day to pick up the products in the Weekly Deals, so take a look and get them while they last.

Happy Mother’s Day Hippity Hop!

Mother’s Day is fast approaching – are you ready!?  As usual – I’m not.  I have a half formed idea of what I plan to send – but, is it ready to send?  Of course not!  And I don’t mean not packaged and addressed and ready to hit the post office.  No – I mean….not DONE!  I hope my mother will give me a pass this year…..  she almost always does…. 🙂

A few of us Happy Stampers got together to bring you some Mother’s Day projects.  Not a full-up blog Hop.  More like a Hippity Hop! 🙂  So, after you take a gander at my share, be sure to stop by the other blogs to see what they bring to the table.  Sandi MacIver and Amy Koenders are Master Card makers – so you won’t want to miss them!

This is the time of year to reflect a little on what mother’s are all about.  For me – they are courage.  And grace.  And love.  And resilience.  And determination.  They are beautiful humans who spend their lives taking care of their children.  And their homes.  And their spouses.  And their jobs.  And everything in between.  And sometimes, every once in a while, they take a minute for themselves.  Mother’s Day is a chance for us to give a little something back to them, isn’t it?

My mother is all of the things I said.  She’s always inspired me to be better.  She made me want to be a good person – like she was, and is.  She helped me to know what is right and what is wrong.  She’s strong.  She’s survived cancer.  And the death of her husband.  She dreamed of living in a cabin in the mountains of Colorado – and she made that happen.  She’s lived there for 30 some odd years now.  Alone but for the small parade of canine “children” that she’s shared her home with.  She’s dealt with yearly forest fires – some close enough she could see.  Some she had to evacuate for.  She worked for the Cancer Society and the Veteran’s Administration – did I mention she’s a nurse?  She worked “down the hill” every day for years – driving over an hour each way.  She made her dream come true – and persevered there many times after I would have called it a day.

She’s lovely.  She’s amazing. She’s the inspiration for my card share today.  Take a look-see:

Mother’s Day seems to call for flowers.  But, flowers die.  So, I thought I’d make a card that seemed like a bouquet.  I love the combination of Wisteria Wonder and Daffodil Delight (kept that floral thing going, didn’t I?!?)  I started with a piece of Wisteria Wonder card stock, and stamped it with the Corner Garden stamp in Wisteria Wonder.  Then I SNAIL’d that to a SU! Whisper White Note Card.

For the art piece, I inked the sentiment from the Lovely Amazing You set with Versamark Ink, and stamped it in the corner of a square of Whisper White Card Stock.  Then I sprinkled it with Early Espresso Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat set it.  Once it had cooled, I inked up the flower stamp from the Bloom with Hope set (Retiring on 2 June!).  I used my Stampin’ Write Markers – in Wisteria Wonder for the flowers and Pear Pizzazz for the stems.  I stamped it several times, all over the square.  The embossed sentiment “resisted” the ink, and let my flowers float behind the words.  I did a little sponging with some Wisteria Wonder, just to soften things up a little.

Lovely Amazing You Outside 4 watermarked

To make the picture frame, I cut out a square with my Square Framelits, and then ran the square back thru the Big Shot, using the next smallest die.  I used Glue Dots to attach the frame to my art work.  And then I popped the whole thing on the card front with Dimensionals.

I used some 1/2″ Daffodil Delight Ribbon Seam Binding to make my “hangar”, attaching it at the top with a few Glue Dots, and sliding it under my frame and adhering it with a little bit of Liquid Multi-Purpose Glue.  Then I got busy making flowers!

Lovely Amazign You Outside 5 watermarked

I used a combination of Petite Petal punches and Itty Bitty Flower Punches, in Wisteria Wonder and Daffodil Delight.  I glued various sizes and colors together with Liquid Multi-Purpose Glue, added a large Pearl, and then adhered them to the ribbon hangar and the frame with Glue Dots.  And the front was done!

Lovely Amazing You Outside 4 watermarked

For the inside, I inked the Bloom with Hope flowers with Whisper White Craft Ink, and stamped them a few times across the bottom of the card.  Then I used the sentiment from the Good Greetings Hostess set, in Wisteria Wonder, for the sentiment.

Lovely Amazing You Inside 2 closeup watermarked

And finis!  Can you see the white-on-white flowers?  Hard to make out in the picture, but….they’re there, I promise!

I hope that you like this card – and I hope that my mom likes it when it arrives with her yet-to-be-finished gift!! 🙂

Take a moment and leave me a comment, telling me what you’re doing for YOUR mom on her special day (it’s on the 10th of May, JIC you were wondering!)

Butterfly Garden Sympathy

In my last post, I mentioned there were several items in my recent “investment” box that I’d been anxious to play with.  Well, two of those items are featured in today’s share.  Both of them are background stamps – the Corner Garden and the Hardwood stamp.  The Corner Garden stamp – for me – just seems to beg to be paired with the Hardwood Stamp.  My brain easily imagines the two of them together – so that’s what I did today.  Take a look-see:

GArden Sympathy Outside 2 watermarked

I started by inking the Hardwood Stamp with Smoky Slate ink.  Then, I laid my Smoky Slate mat on top of the stamp, and carefully rubbed all over the card stock – insuring that I got all areas of the stamp.  That’s usually the easiest way to deal with the background stamps – they’re so big that they can be a little unwieldy to stamp in the “regular” fashion – but doing it this way works every time!  I stamped the Corner Garden onto my Vellum Card Stock in the same manner, this time using Versamark Ink.  I sprinkled it with Smoky Slate Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heated it up.  And then I spent some time playing with my Stampin’ Write Markers.  The heat embossed outlines made it easy to flood the areas with color – and any boo-boos wiped right off with a paper towel!

Garden Sympathy Outside 6 watermarked

I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig to ensure my sentiment would be exactly where I wanted it, and stamped it in Memento Black ink.  That sentiment is from the retiring Bloom with Hope hostess set (yes, another fun thing in my last box!).  I love this set – the flowers are wonderful and the sentiments are lovely and written in a beautiful font!  Once the ink was very dry (I helped it a little with the Heat Tool), I edged the Vellum with my Blackberry Bliss marker and then I spread very tiny amounts of Liquid Multipurpose Glue on the back behind the flowers.  I stuck the vellum art piece onto the hardwood-printed mat, and then added a couple of Glue Dots into the top right hand corner – where I decided I’d stick a butterfly (as art and as a cover-up!).  By this time, my design had evolved in my head and was telling me this needed to be a spring garden with flutter-bys fluttering all around in it!

I stamped the Corner Garden onto another piece of vellum, this time in Blackberry Bliss.  Then I cut out the medium size butterfly from the Butterfly Basics Bundle (still available with the special offer thru the end of the month!) from the stamped vellum and from a piece of Blackberry Bliss card stock.  I stuck the two pieces together with a few glue dots just under the body segment of the butterfly.  Adding some pearls finished it off and hid the glue dots, too.  I luvs me some pearls! 🙂

Garden Sympathy close-up watermarked

I punched out some Bitty Butterflies with my….Bitty Butterfly Punch….from the stamped vellum and a bit more Blackberry Bliss CS.  They were attached together in the same fashion as their larger compatriot, and adhered around the card with little dabs of Multi-purpose Liquid Glue.  I just wanted it to look like they were flittering and fluttering about around a spring garden. I kind of think I achieved that!  I popped the finished card front onto my Blackberry Bliss card base, and the front was done!

Garden Sympathy Outside 5 watermarked

The inside started with some more of the Smoky Slate Card Stock, and this time I used the flowers from the Bloom with Hope set.  I colored the flowers and the stem separately with my Blackberry Bliss and Wild Wasabi Stampin’ Write Markers and then stamped twice without re-inking, re-inked and stamped a third time.  The sentiment, from the same set, is in Blackberry Bliss.  And….done!

Garden Sympathy Inside 2 watermarked

Obviously, it would be wonderful to never NEED a sympathy card, but….it’s darned handy to have one in your stash should the need arise.  I’m quite pleased with how this one turned out – and I’m in love with these stamp sets! I’d highly recommend grabbing the Bloom with Hope set before it’s gone. And – don’t forget that you can still get the Butterfly Basics – either the bundle or the thinlits by themselves – thru the end of the month, at a special price and with a fun SAB item (when you buy the bundle)!
