Stampin’ Up! Last Day to Enter for Blog Candy and Happy Gotcha Day, Finn!

Good morning, y’all – happy Saturday! Now – usually, I’d give you a sneak peek of the card I am planning to make with you this evening.

Which would mean I’d need to HAVE a card to sneak peek.  But – here’s the thing.  I did something to my back yesterday morning.  No idea what.  Might just have been my parts realizing they’re 60?  I dunno.  I took a Flexeril and some Ibuprofen and then got in the only spot that didn’t hurt.  Bed.

I discovered that Flexeril has the ‘benefit” of making me sleep all day, is totally crafty-mojo-sucking….and does little-to-nothing for my back.

The whole thing ended up with me NOT making a card yesterday.  🙁

That said – I am ASSUMING that things will go as they have in the past and I’ll find the pain has subsided as quickly as it came on when I get moving today.  Which means that I WILL get a card made and I WILL be live on my Stamps-N-Lingers FB page this evening at 7pm Eastern.

In the meantime..wanted to remind you that this is Happy 5th Gotcha Day for the Finn-man!!

Calgary Humane Society on Twitter: "Happy Gotcha Day 🐾 Gotcha Day celebrates the day a new family member was added by adoption. We are SO grateful for our amazing adopters and welcoming

Stampin’ Up! Holly Jolly Wintry Christmas Season

Happy Friday – I hope your week has gone well and that you have something fun planned for the weekend.  We have no plans that I know of – so…we’re winging it!

If you were able to join me yesterday for my YouTube live video, I appreciate you spending part of your week with me!  If not, but you’d like to see how I made this card, here ’tis!

This card has a ton of my favorite things in it – pine cones – pine boughs – pine green!  See a trend!?  The cool Painted Christmas DSP is the base for a Holly Jolly Wishes sentiment and some Christmas Season and Christmas Pinecone piney embellishments and images!  Take a look-see:

This interesting layout is from the CAS Colours & Sketches challenge this week.

I started by adhering a piece of the Painted Christmas DSP to an Evening Evergreen mat for the card front.

I took a 4″ wide x 3″ tall piece of Evening Evergreen cardstock and, using my Stampin’ Trimmer, cut it according to the template to make the pointed panel.

Then I embossed the panel in the pine bough design folder in the Wintry 3D Embossing Folders.  Then I trimmed it down by cutting the width to 3 7/8″ (from the original 4″ width).

Bonus:  in the video I showed how you can “punch” up the embossing by swiping your Whisper White stampin’ pad on the inside of the embossing folder before adding the cardstock and running it thru the Stampin’ Cut and Emboss Machine.  How your panel looks depends on which side of the folder you ink.  We all got a great tip – ink BOTH sides of the folder and then emboss the panel.  That way you can pick which side you like better! 🙂

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the embossed panel to the top of the card front.

Using the large and small detailed pinecone dies in the Christmas Pinecone die set, I cut one each from Gold Shimmer Vellum.  Then I used the matching solid dies to cut one each in Early Espresso.  Using Liquid Glue, I adhered the detailed Gold Shimmer Vellum pinecones to the Early Espresso solid pinecones.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the pine cones to the card front and a Glue Dot to adhere a large Gold Holly Leaf.

I tied a simple bow from the gold trim in the Simply Elegant Trim pack and adhered it with a Glue Dot.

I stamped the Holly Jolly Wishes sentiment in Evening Evergreen on Basic White and cut it with a Stitched Rectangle Die.  Then I popped it over the bow with double-stacked Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I added a large Soft Succulent gem from the 2021-2023 In Color Jewels and the card front was done.

For the inside, I stamped a large sentiment from the Holly Jolly Wishes stamp set in Evening Evergreen on a Basic White panel.  Over the top, I stamped the large – single – pine bough from Christmas Season twice in stamped-off-once Soft Succulent.  Then I added the small detailed pine cone in stamped-off-TWICE Early Espresso.  Finally, I added another Soft Succulent gem from the 2021-2023 In Color Jewels.

I used Stampin’ Seal to adhere the panel to an Evening Evergreen mat and then into a Soft Succulent card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

My Basic White Medium Envelope got two of the Christmas Season pine boughs in full-strength Soft Succulent.  Then I added the small detailed pinecone in Early Espresso and the “fill” pine cone image in stamped-off-once Early Espresso…

…and more of the Painted Christmas DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Okay – I sort of love this card!  The angled and Wintry 3D Embossed panel is perfect atop gorgeous Painted Christmas DSP, don’t you think?  And the Holly Jolly Wishes sentiments – on the front and again inside – are wonderful focal points, enhanced with the Christmas Season and Christmas Pinecone images and die cuts.  It pretty much has all the things!

I hope you like!

If you’d like to recreate this card, all the products and card cuts are listed below!

Stampin’ Up! Love, Santa Tag Kit Alternative Card Project and…Blog Candy!!

Well – Happy Happy Hawwwmp Day!!  What do you call a camel with no humps?

Humphree, of course! 😉

That joke has absolutely positively NOTHING to do with the project I’m sharing with you today!

Stampin’ Up! has some amazing kits and they recently released a brand new All-Inclusive Kit called the Love, Santa Tag Kit!  And – it has matching treat bags, too.  Cuz…tags and treat bags just go together like peanut butter and jelly!

I picked up a couple right away and they arrived over the weekend.  So I pulled one of the kits out and put it together quick as a bunny.

No.  Really – it went together really quickly and it is UBER cute!

The kit comes with EVERYthing you need to make twelve fun tags – and they are BIG!!  Like…card-front-sized big!  Which means they’re perfect for attaching to a filled Love, Santa Treat Bag!

I bought an extra kit  (or two!) – so I decided to make THIS one into some quick and easy Christmas cards! I saw that my friend and awesome upline, Amy Koenders, had done that, so…it seemed like a good plan.  She used a Basic Patterns Mask and Blending Brushes to stencil snowflakes all over her card bases.  I wanted to show you a different way to achieve that look!

I picked two coordinating colors – Poppy Parade and Night of Navy – and pulled out the Merry Snowflakes stamp set.

I stuck the three snowflake stamps from the set onto a single acrylic block…

…and then stamped the snowflakes all over a piece of cardstock.  Poppy Parade ink on Poppy Parade cardstock and Night of Navy ink on Night of Navy cardstock! I adhered each stamped card front to a same-color card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals

I popped each stamped card front onto a same-color card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Then I popped each tag onto the card fronts with more Dimensionals.  I put some on straight – and some at a jaunty angle.  I couldn’t decide which one I liked better so….what do you think?  Straight or angled? 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

I left the tag hangers in place and just tied them into a simple bow!

For the inner liners, I used the sentiment from Merry Snowflakes and stamped it in the coordinating color on a Basic White panel.

Then I added one of the leftover jewels from the Love, Santa Tag Kit and adhered the panels into the cards with Stampin’ Seal. Tip: the Tag Kit instruction sheet shows you how many jewels to use on each tag.  I initially used that as a guide.  Then…since I had leftovers, I added more of the jewels to the Christmas tree tag.  If you do that – just be sure you leave 12 little ones to add to the inside of the cards! 😉

I stamped Basic White Medium Envelopes – you didn’t think I would NOT do envelopes did you?? – with the same Merry Snowflakes that I’d used on the card front.  I did them in the coordinating color on the front…

…and on the envelope flap!

Et Voila!  Tags or cards?  Heck – get TWO Love, Santa Tag Kits and do BOTH!  They’re so easy and fun.  AND – if you’re doing tags – you don’t need ANY other products – you’ll get a Night of Navy Ink Spot AND an acrylic block!! But don’t forget to pick up a pack of the coordinating Love, Santa Treat Bags!

The kit ALSO coordinates with Bumblebee, Just Jade, and Polished Pink in addition to the Night of Navy and Poppy Parade.  So… you could do any color combo that strikes you!! 🙂

I hope you like!

If you’d like to recreate these cards, all the products and card cuts are listed below!

Now – Blog Candy.  Finn has that for you so….read on!

Stampin’ Up! It Starts with Art Thanks!

Happy Happy Hawwwmp Day!  Hope all is right and well in your world – and that you’re safe and healthy!

Speaking of COVID-19, do take a minute to check out the Stampin’ Up! Give-Back digital stamp set called Share Sunshine!  100% of the proceeds will go to one of two organizations supporting the fight.  Scroll on down for the deets and a link to download the FIFTEEN pages of cool sentiments!!

My card today uses a few retiring goodies that you need to snap up while you still can – starting with the It Starts With Art stamp set, the matching Arts & Crafts Dies and the fun Follow Your Art DSP.  Take a look-see:

The layout for this one is from this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge.

I started with two panels of the Follow Your Art DSP – both cut the same size as the card front (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) – and I adhered one to the front of a Pacific Point card base and the second on the inside, using Liquid Glue.

I used the Ornate Layers Dies to cut a Whisper White panel and then placed it in my Stamparatus.  I stamped the sentiment from It Starts With Art in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.

Then I popped the panel onto a Calypso Coral “mat” with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I stamped the three pens/markers in Tuxedo Black on Whisper White and colored them with my Bermuda Bay, Calypso Coral and Mango Melody Stampin’ Blends Combos.  Then I cut them with the coordinating die in the Arts & Crafts Die Set.

I popped the die cut pens and markers onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The final piece is a tiny heart trinket from the Follow Your Art Embellishment Kit, adhered in the corner with a Glue Dot.  The kit (which is on SALE for just $6.60!) also includes some Linen Thread in Bermuda Bay and Calypso Coral.  I took a double length of the Bermuda Bay and tied a bow, then adhered it to the heart trinket with a Glue Dot.

I adhered the whole thing to the card front with Liquid Glue and that was it for the card front!

On the inside, I stamped a sentiment from the Retiring Varied Vases stamp set in Tuxedo Black on a Whisper White panel.  Across the bottom, I stamped the ink bottles from It Starts With Art in Tuxedo Black and colored them with the Bermuda Bay, Calypso Coral and Mango Melody Stampin’ Blends Combos.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Calypso Coral mat and into the card base and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more ink bottles on the front…

…and a little Follow Your Art DSP on the envelope flap!

Et Voila!  Isn’t this just the perfect group of goodies for us as crafters!??  I think It Starts With Art is very aptly named – and it’s so cool that the Arts & Crafts Dies (on sale for $11.60!) help us cut out so many of the images to use, don’t you?!  Finally – the Follow Your Art DSP is bright and cheery and fun.  And on a really good sale – just $4.60 for the pack!!  I hope you like – and will get them soon.  Remember, only the stamp set is guaranteed to be around thru the end of the catalog!  All the other items are only available while supplies last!

If you want to recreate this card – all the Stampin’ Up! products you need are listed down below along with the card cuts!

I snapped this picture the other evening of my silly and sweet dog.  He crawls under that chair and uses his hand to pull and squiggle himself into JUST the right position.

Guess this is it!

Yeah.  Beyond cute! 😉

Finn Fan Fix

On my video on Saturday night, I mentioned that I’d made a big batch of homemade granola, using a yumm-o sounding recipe my mom sent.

And – I got requests to share, so… here ’tis!

This is a Vermont Country Store recipe – they sent it to my mom in an e-mail….

How does this relate to Finn?

Food.  Finn.  Hello?

We makin’ granola for us, Mom??

I love granola.

What’s granola, again??

It’s called Lumberjack Granola – I’ll give you the recipe as written and then my substitutes/changes. 🙂

Ingredients

8 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
1 cup hulled sunflower seeds
1 cup hulled pumpkin seeds
2 cups walnuts
1 cup maple syrup
1 cup golden raisins
2 cups almonds
1 cup canola or olive oil
1 cup dried cranberries
2 cups pecans
1 Tablespoon coarse sea salt
1 cup shredded coconut

Preparation

Preheat oven to 325 degrees

In a large stainless-steel bowl, combine the oats, sunflower and pumpkin seeds walnuts, almonds and pecans.  Stir with a large wooden spoon (or clean hands) to combine.

Transfer about 4 cups of the mixture to a food processor fitted with the steel blade and pulse to coarsely chop, but do not make the pieces too small.  (This is just to slightly reduce the size of chunks to bit-size and you can skip this step if you prefer really chunky granola.)  Transfer the chopped oat mixture to a second large stainless-steel bowl.  Repeats until you have coarsely chopped the whole batch – again, not too fine.

Toss the oat mixture with the salt.  Pour the maple syrup and the oil over the top and stir with a wooden spoon or clean hands to completely combine the liquids with the oat mixture.  It will look just slightly moist.

Spread the granola evenly over the two shallow roasting pans or rimmed baking sheets in a single layer, about 1″ deep.  You may need to do this in two batches.  Bake, stirring every 15 min or so to keep the granola from burning and turning the pans to bake evenly.  Toast to a golden brown, about 45 minutes.  Remove from the pan and transfer back to one of the large bowls.

Toss will still warm with the raisins, cranberries and coconut. Let cool before packing into large mason jars to keep up to 2 months.

My changes

  1. I didn’t use the dried cranberries – they’re not our fave so…substituted dried dates.  About 10 ounces worth.
  2. Used canola oil – and only about 1/2 cup.
  3. Didn’t use walnuts – really don’t care for them.  So used extra pecans.  I couldn’t really tell you how many pecans I used.  At least 2 cups – plus…however many looked about right.
  4. Used slivered almonds cuz that’s what I had in the freezer.
  5. Didn’t use sunflower seeds.  No reason why – just didn’t have them and didn’t buy any more.
  6. My pumpkin seeds were roasted and salted.  Worked great.
  7. Do NOT skip the COARSE Sea Salt.  I had fine sea salt on hand, but bought some coarse for this.  That little tiny crunch of salt is perfect!!
  8. Try to use real maple syrup.  Try not to lick the syrup off the bottle.  Or…be sure no one is watching if you do!

Get ready to love this granola. And – if you’re of a mind – it would be awesome in trail mix form – add m&m’s or chocolate chips when the mix is….almost completely cool.  We didn’t do that.  Wanted to – but…we’re using as cereal, so…

We can add the chips into our cereal bowl on the down-low!

Enjoy!
