Stampin’ Up! Watercolored Flourishing Phrases Notecard

Mornin’ y’all – it’s Monday again!  I hope you had a super weekend and are refreshed and ready for the workweek!

I have no funny stories today – Duck Duck hasn’t been caught doing anything cute that I know about!  My trip to the grocery store was not even sort of funny.  Pretty boring weekend, really.

Which is exactly what I was looking for! 🙂  Hope you got what you were looking for this weekend, too!

I have a fun card for you today – I used a technique I saw on a blog somewhere.  I can’t for the life of me remember where – but….I thank that SU! demonstrator for the idea!

To make this card, I used the pretty new stamp set called Flourishing Phrases and the matching Flourish Thinlits.  Take a look-see:

This one played along with two challenges – the first gave me my color palette of Pink Pirouette, So Saffron and Calypso Coral.  Just Us Girls Color Challenge #352:

JUGs #352 Sketch
The second challenge was a technique challenge.  The Paper Players #304 asked us to make a clean and simple card using Watercolor!

PP 304 Sketch
My card used a sort of different watercolor technique.  Ready!?

I started with a plain panel of Whisper White card stock.  Using wedges of Stampin’ Sponge, I inked the panel with Pink Pirouette, So Saffron and Calypso Coral ink.  I was pretty generous – ensuring I had every little bit of white colored up.

Then I pulled out the large flourish image in the Flourishing Phrases stamp set.  Using my Stampin’ Spritzer, I generously spritzed the stamp with plain water, and then set it down on the sponged panel – right in the center.  I let it set a few seconds and picked it up.  When you do this, you’ll be able to see the image – sort of – right away.  As it dries, however, that’s when the real magic happen!  The image just appears from nowhere! 🙂

I did that a few times, rotating the stamp and getting the image spread across the panel.  And then I tore the edges – carefully, cuz it was still a little damp!

Once it was dry, I sponged the edges of the panel – matching the edges to the color on the top of the panel as I moved around the whole card front.

For the decoration, I cut a few dies with the Flourish Thinlits.  In the course of making the card, I’d made a second watercolored panel – but didn’t like how it turned out, so it didn’t make the cut!  But it worked great to cut a few flowers and leaves!  I also cut a few in plain Whisper White card stock, as well.  Then I figured out how I wanted to build my flower and used some Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to stick it all together.

Watercolored Flourishing Phrases Note 8 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I used an old Very Vintage Designer Button (you could easily use a Classy Designer Button if that’s what you have!), with a piece of Crushed Curry Baker’s Twine run thru and tied into a bow and adhered it to the flower with a couple of Glue Dots.  The sentiment, from Flourishing Phrases, is stamped in Calypso Coral on a strip of Whisper White card stock, that I cut a banner end into with my Paper Snips.  I lightly sponged the edges with So Saffron and SNAILd it to the card front.  I used some Liquid Glue to put my flower over the top.

Watercolored Flourishing Phrases Note 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I really debated a long time about a mat.  Mat yes?  Mat no?  If yes – which color?  Tear the edges?  Leave them straight?  I finally concluded that a mat – any mat! – was going to look goofy.  So…I skipped it!

On the inside, I simply used a piece of Whisper White card stock, and tore the edges.  Then I repeated the sponging of the Pink Pirouette, So Saffron and Calypso Coral around the edges.  And I gave it another flower and leaf, cut with the Flourish Thinlits from more Whisper White and watercolored paper.  For this one, I used a Calypso Coral Enamel Shape in the center.

Watercolored Flourishing Phrases Note 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I SNAILd the panel directly into my Whisper White card base.  For the front, I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to pop it on.  SNAIL would have laid the slightly warp-y paper down more firmly – but I liked how it kept some shape.  For me, it looks like a scrap of tapestry sort of tossed on the card! 🙂

On the front of my Whisper White Medium Envelope, I adhered a flower made with a Whisper White layer and a So Saffron card stock layer.  With a Pink Pirouette Enamel Shape…

…and I stamped the flourish from Flourishing Phrases in Calypso Coral on the back of the envelope.

Et Voila! Hope you like and that you’ll try this technique – it’s a lot of fun to watch the image sort of “appear” as it dries on the paper!  And remember that you can get this bundle – with the stamp set and the thinlits together – in either Clear Mount or Wood Mount – and you can save 10% over the individual price!
