Stampin’ Up! Embellished Ornaments and a Snow Flurry

Today’s share is not a Christmas Card.  It’s not even a card.  It’s a card HOLDER! Which in some cultures would be called a….box.  But, this is a special and highly embellished box, worthy of your beautiful creations!

After I spent yesterday playing with all the new DSPs and ribbons and embellishments, and then sorting thru all MY new stamp sets and punches and dies….I was in a gluttonous state of crafting overload.  I have so many new things that I want to create with – I hardly know where to start!  But – I decided to narrow it down to the new Season of Cheer DSP, the Embellished Ornaments stamp set and its matching framelits called Delicate Ornaments (which is one of the many great bundles available in the Holiday Catalog!) and finally the Snow Flurry Punch.  I brought that all together and made…this.  Take a look-see:

Embellished Ornaments Card Box 6

I won’t go into the details on how to make the box – cause you can go over to my Tutorial page and see the whole process.  Which I say like it’s a WHOLE PROCESS.  It’s stupid easy.  And fun to create gift boxes that are just right for your special cards and presents.  And you can make cards that match!

This box is made using the new Season of Cheer DSP for the box top and Night of Navy card stock for the bottom.  After I finished putting the box together, I punched out a bunch of snowflakes from Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper.  I edged them all with my Night of Navy Stampin’ Write Marker and then adhered them randomly on the box top with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.  I kept two snowflakes aside for the tag.  And one of THOSE I completely colored with the marker.

I made two tags for this box.  The first used the Embellished Ornaments stamp set and its matching framelit called Delicate Ornaments.   I tried my darnedest to use the Red Foil on this ornament, cause it’s so pretty! – but it just didn’t fit the box.  Next time!

Anywho – I pulled out a piece of Silver Foil, rubbed it with my Embossing Buddy and then stamped the Embellished Ornament image in Versamark Ink on it.  I sprinkled it with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed it.  Finally, I cut it out with the corresponding framelit.

I also used the framelit for the more embellished Embellished Ornament and cut out an ornament from a piece of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper.  Tip:  definitely use your waxed paper!  I did NOT and it took me a pretty good bit to get all the tiny pieces out!  And, when you cut the Glimmer Paper, the sort of plasticky backing makes it a little harder to cut – so you may need to run it thru a few times – just go back and forth several times, and make sure all the cuts are cut!  But – it’s really worth the effort – this die is beautiful!

Then I adhered the two pieces together with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.

It doesn’t really show up very well in the picture, but in “real life” you can see the gold embossing under the Dazzling Diamonds.  Pretty! 🙂  I stuck on a Gold Cording bow with some more glue and set it all aside to percolate.

Then I made a tag.  I punched a Note Card punch tag out of a piece of Winter Wonderland Specialty DSP.  Then I adhered the two Snowflake Flurry snowflakes that I’d kept aside from earlier to the tag with the Liquid Multi-Purpose Glue.

To make the sentiment, I used a sentiment from “A Little Something”.  I didn’t need the whole thing, so I used scotch tape to mask it off and then I stamped “for you” in Night of Navy on a piece of scrap Whisper White card stock.  Then I used one of the Bitty Banners to cut it out.

The first cut was with the die close to the right side of the sentiment.  See what happens when you forget to take the tape off after you ink your stamp and before you stamp it?  😉

After I cut the banner out, I repositioned the die on the left side of the sentiment, and ran it back thru the Big Shot.

Once it came back out of the Big Shot, here’s what it looked like!

Embellished Ornaments Card Box 3

Yes, that is modern art you see in the background of the last 3 pics.  Created just for you.

I edged the sentiment banner in Night of Navy using my Marker and then added it to the tag.

Embellished Ornaments Card Box 11

All that was left was to put it all together!  I wrapped a piece of Whisper White 1/2″ Seam Binding around the box and tied a simple bow.  Then I used a Gold Mini Metallic Clothespin to hook both of the tags to the ribbon.

Embellished Ornaments Card Box 6

And there you have it!  A pretty, snowflake covered box with a beautiful Embellished Ornament and tag.  Just waiting for a special gift – perhaps some cards you’ve made yourself for someone special!  Maybe tomorrow I’ll make a card that totally matches it!

Hope you enjoyed this and will take a minute to go over to the Tutorial Page and see how totally easy it is to make a box of your own!

Have a Happy Sunday –

TTFN and see you tomorrow!

  1. Mom

  2. Just beautiful Mary! Your tag is stunning and the designer paper that you used for the box is just perfect!! Love it all!

  3. Patricia

I really like your idea of making a coordinating box for cards… Such a lovely gift idea! Thanks for sharing… I can tell you are having fun with the products from the new Christmas and fall holiday catalog!

  4. Wow,, wow, and wow! Love your beautiful box and all of the embellishments. Some lucky recipient of this gift is going to be happy!

  5. Thanks Jari! I’m thinking I might make several of these for Christmas. Would really work pretty well for lightweight gifts – like a scarf! 🙂

  6. I could spend months/years catching up on your blogs I have never seen. I found this one today and made a box to hold 5 x 7 cards. Your instructions worked perfectly. I majored in math but that was sooooo many years ago that your explanation of making different sizes was such a great help. This was quick and easy. Thanks, Mary!
