Stampin’ Up! Hold Onto Hope Sneak Peek Sympathy Card

Good morning, y’all!  Welcome to the last weekend of 2017!!  Yikes!

Sadly, for some folks in my extended circle of friends, this hasn’t been a great week.  And, I need a Sympathy card to send.  So, I pulled out a new bundle in the 2018 Occasions Catalog.  The lovely Hold Onto Hope stamp set, bundled with the Cross of Hope Framelits, is a gorgeous set, perfect for the occasion.  Especially when combined with a sentiment from the Thoughts & Prayers stamp set.  Take a look-see:

As you can maybe see, I also broke out my package of new Brusho Colors! 🙂

I started with a piece of Shimmery White card stock.  Using the pin-hole-in-the-top method, I shook a little bit of the Prussian Blue around the outer edges of the panel.  In the middle, I sprinkled some Yellow.  I lightly spritzed the panel with water using my Stampin’ Spritzer.  I let the panel dry naturally, dabbing off any water that pooled on the edges.  Once it was completely dry, I cut it down to the finished size for the front of my card.

I inked up the pretty floral spray image in the Hold Onto Hope set (avail 3 Jan) with Versamark and stamped it twice on the panel.  I sprinkled the images with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed them with my Heat Tool.  Then I Fast Fuse’d the panel to an Island Indigo mat.

For the cross, I cut a Wood Textures DSP solid cross with the die in the Cross of Hope Framelits and a Silver Foil detailed Cross with a second die.  I adhered them together with Liquid Glue.

I used some new Whisper White 1/4″ Organza Ribbon (3 Jan) to drape around the Cross.  I stuck a Glue Dot in the center of the Cross and used that to start the drape.  I put Stampin’ Dimensionals on the back of the Cross and popped it onto the card front – running the tails of the ribbon behind it as I stuck it on.  Over the center of the ribbon, I used another Glue Dot to adhere a new Petal Passion Embellishment (3 Jan) over the top of the Organza Ribbon.

For the sentiment, I stamped the sentiment from Thoughts & Prayers in Island Indigo on a strip of Shimmery White.  I snipped banner ends with my Paper Snips and edged it with my Basic Gray Stampin’ Write Marker.  Then I popped it over the Cross with Liquid Glue and a couple of Stampin’ Dimensionals.

On a scrap of Shimmery White, I stamped the pretty little flower from Hold Onto Hope.  I colored the stamp with my Daffodil Delight, Island Indigo and Pear Pizzazz Stampin’ Write Markers and stamped it on the card stock.  Then I cut it with the die in the Cross of Hope Framelits.  I used Liquid Glue and a Mini Stampin’ Dimensional to adhere it over the Cross.  I added one Pearl Basic Jewel and the card front was done!

On the inside, I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to align and stamp the sentiment from Hold Onto Hope in Island Indigo on a Shimmery White panel.  Then I repeated the flower…

I Fast Fuse’d the panel to an Island Indigo mat.  Before going further, I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig and stamped the little corner image from Hold Onto Hope in Basic Gray Archival Ink in the corners (front and inside) of my Basic Gray card base.  Then I Fast Fuse’d the inner liner into the card base.

I decided to add a little more to the card front – so I cut a couple pieces off a Delicate White Doily and adhered them to the back of the card front – then I popped it on the front of the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

On the front of my Whisper White Medium Envelope, I added more Basic Gray Hold Onto Hope corners and flowers…

…and I added a little more Wooden Textures DSP to the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I love how the Brusho background turned out, don’t you?  I think it looks serene and sort of…heavenly!  And I loved this Hold Onto Hope bundle the very first moment I saw it in the 2018 Occasions Catalog!  Hope you like!

Finn Fan Fix

Today the Dad went up to NC to do some work across the weekend.  So we all helped him get loaded and ready to go!

Finn had a doggy-dilemma.

Stay with Mom?  Go with Dad?

Difficult choice for a little kid – one who loves both his parents!

But…a road trip?!?

In the end, he made the selfless decision to stay here and protect me.

So…he bravely said good-bye to the Dad…

…and promptly forgot all about him while we worked the gates for the horses.

He’s a go-with-the-flow kind of guy – focused on the right here, right now.  Not the woulda-coulda-shoulda’s.

We should all be so smart!

  1. Sometimes I think the animals are the smartest of us all!
Mary, this is such a gorgeous card, sure to gladden the sad heart of the recipient. I may just have to CASe this one. Two deaths here this week. One shocker, quite unexpected member of my Master Gardener group and another club of which we were both members and on the board. The other, 97 year old member of our small community, for whom I used to work. And I know all 5 of her kids, so many cards to make and send. 🙁

    • Oh dear – that’s a rough week, indeed! 🙁 I’m so sorry for the loss of your friend, Julie. Feel free to CASE as desired! And thank you so much! 🙂

      • I didn’t mean to minimize YOUR loss, Mary. And, your card is truly, truly beautiful.
1 degree here, windy, snow on the ground. Cloudy, but sun is trying to come out. Making soup. Sounds good for a cold day.
I brought a few things in from the studio so I can work tonight, rather than traipsing back and forth in the cold. Getting wimpy I guess!

      • Didn’t think that at all, Julie! I loved your soup recipe – sounded so yummy!! Especially for a 1-degree day! 🙂

  2. Such a beautiful card Mary! Your background turned out perfectly and the die cuts are amazing. Love the little embellishment too! Finn is definitely one of the smart ones! 🙂

  3. Kate

Beautiful and very uplifting card, Mary.
We SHOULD all be so smart!!!

  4. Finn is a wise young man! I am so sorry for your loss of this person. The card is beyond breathtaking. I know I keep saying, “this is your best card ever”or it is “my favorite so far”, but yet again, it’s both! What an excellent piece using the Brusho and that hint of green in the center. I am so happy I have this set. The cross is exquisite.

  5. Brenda B

Such a beautiful card and will be much appreciated. Lovely stamp set too.

  6. Wow this is beautiful. Hope this helps bring a smile to your friends in the hard time…

  7. Michele Uke

Sorry for your loss. Beautiful card. I would love to CASe it as I have a rough time with sympathy cards.

  8. Camille

I just love this card you created, I am casing it for an Easter card. Glad you tried using the Brusho on the card stock you did instead of the water paper.I tried it on both and really liked the Shimmery better. now i will try the same process on Whisper White. Thank you so much for sharing.
