Stampin’ Up! A Little Christmas Happiness for the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Happy Thursday, y’all – and welcome to the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop! We’ve got a full roster for today’s color challenge, so be sure to check ’em all out when you get done here!

Here’s the color scheme we had for the challenge.

And I also played along with a sketch challenge over at the Paper Craft Crew

So… the colors sort of scream Fall and the Autumn Harvest suite, which means that I used the Christmas Happiness stamp set and threw in a few “helpers” from the Pretty Pines Thinlits.  Take a look-see:

I started with a piece of Whisper White card stock and, using the pine bough image in Christmas Happiness, I stamped it all over the panel in Garden Green.  I stamped the image twice without re-inking to add depth.  Then I added Christmas lights – I love Christmas lights (I’d keep a tree in my living room all year round with nothing but clear white lights on it if I could!).  These little lights are three-step.  Step 1 – I stamped the outline of the light in Early Espresso.  Step 2 – stamped the “light” in Crushed Curry.  And Step 3 – stamped the fill-in of the socket in stamped-off-once Garden Green.

Finally, I added the small pinecone a few times – the outline image in Early Espresso and the fill-in image in stamped-off-once Early Espresso.  I gently flicked the edges of the panel with a sponge in Early Espresso and matted the panel to an Early Espresso mat (sheesh – now I need a cup of coffee!! 😉 ).  I ran a length of Garden Green 3/8″ Stitched Satin ribbon around the panel, securing it in the back with scotch tape.

The center panel is another piece of Whisper White to which I adhered a piece of Wood Textures DSP.  Then I ran the whole thing thru the Big Shot in the Pinewood Planks Dynamic TIEF and popped it over the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Using some Liquid Glue, I adhered a length of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon across the middle panel.

I stamped my sentiment from Christmas Happiness in Early Espresso on Whisper White and cut it out with a Stitched Shapes Framelits circle die – then I matted it on a scalloped Early Espresso mat.

I cut some Garden Green pine boughs and Crushed Curry berries with the Pretty Pines Thinlits dies.  The pine cone is stamped in Early Espresso (just like on the card front) and fussy cut.

I adhered a berry sprig and pine bough under the center panel with Liquid Glue and added another pair on top of the panel.  Then I used Liquid Glue and a Dimensional to add the sentiment.

My embellishment is the fussy cut pine cone and a berry/bough combo, with a looped Linen Thread Bow.  To finish it all off, I added three Crushed Curry Enamel Shapes to the side of the panel and that was it for the card front.

On the inside, I added some more Christmas Happiness pine boughs, lights and cones to a Whisper White panel and added the second sentiment in Early Espresso.

I Fast Fuse’d the panel to an Early Espresso mat and into my Crushed Curry card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got another treatment of pine boughs, lights and cones on the front…

…and some more of the Wooden Textures DSP to the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Love love love Christmas Happiness – boughs…pine cones…. lights.  It’s the trifecta of good!!  And it works so nicely to add some Pretty Pines die cuts along with it!  Hope you like! 🙂

  1. Wow, Mary, I love your pine cones and pine boughs. This works beautifully for Christmas. I tried to do something for Christmas today, but could only think fall with our colors! Just beautiful!

    • Thank you so much, Jari – my creative mojo is a little on the blink this week – brain is full! I saw green and espresso and thought “pine”. Then had to figure out the Crushed Curry! 🙂

  2. I think I need a self-help book for things to say about Mary’s cards when everything has been said a million times 🙂 Well, any way…c’est tres magnifique et j’aime cela!

  3. Wendie

I’m in love with your card. Perfect use of the sketch and all the wonderful elements. Don’t you just love those pinecones? They look like the cones we get on our pinion pine trees. I think they’re so realistic. Thank yo for your inspiration.

    • I really do love these pine cones – it’s why I fussy cut them instead of using the dies in the Pretty Pines – like you, I just think they look so real! 🙂 Thank you so much, Wendie!! 🙂

  4. Kate

You had me with the first pine cone!

  5. Susan K

Really? Your creative mojo is on the blink? NOT!! Your creativity is amazing! Love everything about the card and happy to see you got the pine cones in there today! 😉

    • Okay – maybe “blink” is too strong a word. Let’s call it…flagging?? LOL. Thanks, Susan – I really love the pinecones in this stamp set!!

  6. Love it!! Your layers are fantastic and I love the pine branch die cuts. Perfect! 🙂

  7. Jaimie

So many great details to this card – I love how you used the linen thread!! Great take on the colors!

  8. Well, I left a comment, I thought. Or did you delete it because I said your card is truly ugly? I DIDN’T MEAN IT!!!
I went ahead and said it was really beautiful and made me think of the north woods, in Canada, and homesick for the area and friends there.
I only put in the ugly part because I always say your cards are beatiful and I don’t want you to just think I always say that. 🙂
But maybe I just forgot to post it before I went on to the next blog!?

    • I’m laughing plumb out loud and Finn and Wayne are giving me the side-eye! No, you didn’t post any such thing! You fergot-ta! You crack me up, Julie. Thanks for the kind words and the chuckle! 🙂

  9. Kristi
