Stampin’ Up! Spooky Cat Halloween Moon

Happy Friday, y’all.  If you’re in Harvey’s aftermath or bracing for Irma – my thoughts and prayers are with you.  My friends in Florida…stay safe!

My card today is simple and fast.

My day yesterday was complicated and long – so simple and fast was the order of the day.

I’ve seen some cards out and about using the new Cat Punch in the same way I’ve used it today.  I thought it was so cool and had been wanting to make my own version.  So – this seemed like the day to do it.  I added a few pieces and parts from the bundled Spooky Cat stamp set.  Take a look-see:

Buckle up, buttercup – this is going to go quick!

I started with a Crushed Curry card stock circle cut with the largest die in the Circles Layering Framelits.  Then I punched the cat silhouette with the Cat Punch.

Using my sponge dauber, I added a little bit of shadowing on my moon with Crushed Curry ink.

I used Stampin’ Dimensionals (Mini and Regular) to pop the moon over a Basic Black panel.

I matted the card front on a Crushed Curry mat with Fast Fuse, then wrapped some Crushed Curry Solid Baker’s Twine around the panel 3 times, securing it in the back with scotch tape.

I used a Glue Dot under the three strands near the left side of the card to draw them together (like they’d been tied together).  Over that, I added a bow tied from three strands of the Baker’s Twine.

The sentiment, from Spooky Cat, is stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on a Crushed Curry strip.  I snipped banner ends and then popped it on the card front with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Simple doesn’t have to mean no bling at all – so I added a single gold star Metallic Enamel Shape to the corner.  And that was it for the card front.

On the inside, I used the negative space of my moon circle as a stencil and sponged a “moon” in Crushed Curry on a Whisper White panel.  Over that, I added the fun cat image from Spooky Cat.

I Fast Fuse’d the panel to a Crushed Curry mat and into my Basic Black card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got another sponged moon on the front – along with some cat eyes from Spooky Cat in Tuxedo Black…

…and I added more cat faces to the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I fell in love with this technique the minute I saw it – so it was just a matter of time before I used it on a card of my own.  And I kinda love it!! Spooky Cat and the awesome new Cat Punch…Winner winner!  I hope you like.

Finn-Fan Fix

I’m just going to share a cute picture of the man.

From soon after he came to live with us, he’s liked getting under my chair.

Recently he’s started really GETTING UNDER my chair – and adopted the “leg hug”.

I have no clue.

  1. That card is awesome Mary!! Love the silhouette of the Spooky Cat in the moonlight. Perfect CAS design!! 🙂

  2. I agree totally with Amy, exactly what I was going to say. Super job on the shadowing! 🙂

  3. Your card is purrfect in every way. I really am going to have copy this exactly as there is nothing I would change. Love it!

  4. Pat Christ

Simple but awesome card, another CASE for me. Finn…silly Finn, gotta love him! 😜

  5. Kate

Really like the card! There is a tee shirt out there with the cat against the moon…always thought it was a nifty notion.
    Yes, hurricane wake folk…be safe!!!
Finn. Careful not to catch him in the mechanism…guess he hasn’t been yet. Or this fave spot would be history for sure.

  6. Once again! I love this. Maybe I will CAS only with a tree silhouette? And a bat? Or an owl? Possibilities are endless. Glad you got a chuckle yesterday! I think your moon shadows are excellent.

  7. Sandra Warthen

Just when I had decided I didn’t “need” that cat punch! Love that card.

  8. Kathy L

My kind of card…simple and packs a punch! Love it! How is Finn managing to fit under there? Looks like a pretty tight squeeze to me.

You be safe yourself with another hurricane threatening. I’ll be thinking of you.

    • Thank you, Kathy – we’re watching the track change – too bad it’s changing TOWARDS us instead of away. 🙁 It’s a tight squeeze for him, but he Soldiers on thru… 🙂 Thanks much! 🙂

  9. Susan Phillips

love it and so simple!!!  slp  Susan Less Phillips

Super cute! I love the cat punch – have made several non-Halloween cards with it! Finn is just too cute! He looks so cozy and comfy😀 Be safe, Mary! Prayers that Irma fizzles fast!

    • Yes – I’m hoping she changes her mind and makes a hard right tonight! And heads right out to sea. And that Jose follows right behind her. Thanks so much, Elisha! 🙂

  11. Susan K

Another Halloween card? Must be a record for you! Love that the cat silhouette doesnt need anything else with that realistic shading. Pinned it in case my resolve weakens–as it too often does!

    • I know, right?? It was the cat. And the moon. I just couldn’t help it!! Thanks much, Susan. And – you might just as well get that punch now. 😉
