Stampin’ Up! CAS Christmas Scottie & Go To Greetings with Aspens & Leaf Fall

Happy Monday, y’all!  We had a wonderful evening with our friends last night – good pizza and good dessert, good company and good conversation!  Feels like it had been a long time since we’d been together.  No tiny human was in attendance – but…we made do with just us big ‘uns!! 🙂

My card today is my specialty – Clean and Simple.

Bwahahahahaha!!!  You know THAT’S a half-truth.  Quarter truth?!  Hardly any truth at all???  😉

But – I hope you’ll like it anyway.  For the most part, I try hard to keep the number of stamp sets, dies, embossing folders, etc to a minimum but…I NEEDED all the products that I used – on this card – plus the super-wonderful Leaf Fall 3D Embossing Folder.   Christmas Scottie was a big player on the front and inside of the card.  And…the wunnermus Aspen Tree Dies are pivotal to the design, with Go To Greetings bringing the front sentiment.  Take a look-see:

The layout for this one is from the Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

The color palette is thanks to the Color Throwdown Challenge.

And, although the colors on my card are “cool” – versus vibrant Fall – I was inspired by the photo at Hand Stamped Sentiments.

I started by embossing a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock in the Leaf Fall 3D Embossing Folder and matting it on a piece of Kraft 6″ x 6″ Paper for the card front.

I stamped the plaid image from Christmas Scottie three times, in Balmy Blue ink, on Very Vanilla cardstock.

I used the next-to-smallest square Stylish Shapes die to cut three plaid squares – which I adhered to the card front with Liquid Glue.

On a strip of Very Vanilla, I stamped the sentiment from Go To Greetings in Crumb Cake ink.  Then I snipped the banner end and adhered it to the card front with Liquid Glue.

Using my two fave leaf dies (maybe ever?!?) – the ones in the Aspen Tree Die set – I cut a large and a small leaf from Kraft Paper and a small leaf from Very Vanilla cardstock.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the large leaf to the card front and then added the small Very Vanilla leaf over the top.

I tied a small, simple bow from Very Vanilla Baker’s Twine and adhered it with a Glue Dot.

Then I added the small Kraft leaf with a few Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I added a single Heart Pearl to the end of the sentiment and the card front was done!

On the inside, I mimicked the patterns on the front by first stamping a sentiment from Christmas Scottie in Crumb Cake ink on a Very Vanilla panel.  I made a mask by sticking a piece of scotch tape across the middle of the plaid stamp image from Christmas Scottie and then inked the image with Balmy Blue ink.  I pulled off the scotch tape – do NOT forget this part of the process! – and stamped the image over the sentiment.  The tape mask left a clear strip in the middle – perfect for the sentiment!  I added another Pearl Heart, too.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Kraft Paper mat and into my Thick Very Vanilla card base – popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got the Christmas Scottie plaid in Balmy Blue across the bottom corner…

…and another piece of the Kraft Paper – that I’d embossed in the Leaf Fall 3D Embossing Folder! – on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I love this little plaid image from the Christmas Scottie set, don’t you?  And – notice there’s NO Christmas anywhere – what other kinds of cards can you envision using the Christmas Scottie set?!  If you go for a non-Christmas card – you’ll want to pick up the TOTALLY PERFECTLY named – Go To Greetings set! And – Aspen Tree Dies and Leaf Fall 3D Embossing Folder.  These speak for themselves – you ALREADY know how I feel about them!

I hope you like!

Finn Fan Fix

Some days, I just can’t stay asleep as long as I’d like.  I’d LIKE to sleep to at least 5.  But…sometimes – it’s earlier.

I tend to fall back asleep in the recliner in the living room.

Getting older is SUCH a joy! 🤷‍♀️

Some mornings – not all (he’s smarter than I am!) – Finn “gets up” with me to be supportive.

Like me – he sometimes falls back to sleep on the sofa.

Being “up” looks different to everyone, right?!?

  1. Such a pretty card! Love the color and clean design! Yeah…my getting up at 5 AM would look a lot like Finn… 😉

  2. Faith Simpson

Hi Mary…..I love this card…..yes, I see it isn’t a typical ‘Mary’ card…..but it is perfectly lovely……looks like it would be a perfect ‘guy’ card…..but could really be for anyone.
Sleeping in the recliner? The older you get, the more that happens….don’t ask how I know….

    • stampsnlingers

I know how you know, my friend! I hope you have a really comfy recliner! 🙂 Thanks, Faith! 🙂

  3. Wanda Cullen

Gorgeous card…inside and out! Thanks so much for joining us at CTD!

  4. Love this card!! And I agree that being up looks different to different folks.

  5. Susan K

Beautiful card, even if it is Clean and Simple 😉😉 Love your choice of colors and take on the sketch. TFS. I’m sorry you can’t sleep longer—one of my greatest joys of retirement is not setting an alarm every day! But your napping partner looks like he’s adapted!

    • stampsnlingers

I know – I can’t seem to break the habit! 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ Thanks, Susan! And yes – he just rolls with the flow! 🙂

  6. Heather Heroldt

SO pretty, Mary – love your Fall theme in these sweet colors! Great layout, too – it sings! Thanks so much for playing at Hand Stamped Sentiments!

  9. bhholcombe

Love how you used the colors this week! Thanks for playing along with us at the Color Throwdown challenge!

  10. I love the fall theme with this unusual and very soft color scheme. Thanks so much for playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches this week.

  11. Gail Schoolcraft

I like how each element is able to “shine” on its own–the EF, plaid and leaves. I don’t have the Scottie set, but I do have lots of plaid DSP and my goal is to use more of my DSP packets up. I’ll adopt the idea for sure. Thanks for sharing your talent with us.

    • stampsnlingers

For sure!! Plaid DSSP would be perfect! Thank you so much, Gail! 🙂
