Stampin’ Up! Snailed It Fun Fold Card with Video Tutorial

Good morning! And happy Sunday!  As expected we spent yesterday getting a final – HUGE – load of mulch and then we got the rest of the soil into the new beds.  I also – not so expectedly – kicked my own buttinski doing it.  Turns out that treadmill-fit is not the same as rake-heavy-dirt fit.  Who knew?? 😉

If you were able to spend some of your weekend with me on my Facebook Live video last night, I appreciate it!  If not, here’s the replay on YouTube! (Note:  my internet froze a few minutes into the video – but it recovered, so…stick with it!).

I’d seen this fun fold around and discovered a good video from LeeAnn Greff on the basics of the fold so…I took it from there and then modified it a bit!  Mine uses the uber-fun Snailed It bundle with some Snail Mail DSP to make it even cuter.  Take a look-see:

The layout for the front of the card was inspired by the Tuesday Morning Sketches challenge.

And the color palette comes from the Global Design Project this week.

And – I pulled some elements from the Festive Friday Inspo List in as well.  I’ve got polka dots – twine – moving parts.  And if you squint your eyes Bermuda Bay could be green-adjacent AND….water.  Bay?  Water?  😉

I started with a 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ piece of Basic Black that I scored and folded at 4 1/4″.  Then I cut a Stitched Rectangle die from the middle of the front panel.

Using the same die, I cut a piece of Snail Mail DSP and adhered it to the piece I’d just cut out with Liquid Glue.

I cut a smaller Stitched Rectangle from a piece of Bermuda Bay then measured and cut a slightly smaller piece of Basic White.  Onto that piece, I stamped the fun Snailed It sentiment in Real Red – then colored the envelope with my Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Blends Combo.  I adhered the pieces together and then popped them onto the DSP-covered rectangle die cut with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

For the fold mechanism, I cut a piece of Basic White to 5″ x 6″ and scored it along the long edge at 2″ and 4″.

Before folding on the score lines, I stamped the Snailed It sentiment in Bermuda Bay on the middle panel and the sweet little snail in Tuxedo Black on the third panel.  I colored the snail using my Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush to “paint” her (picking up ink from the lid of my Blushing Bride ink pad).  Her little shell stripes are colored with the Blushing Bride Stampin’ Write Marker.  The gifts are colored with my Real Red and Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Blend Combos.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere another piece of Snail Mail DSP to a Bermuda Bay mat and onto the back of my card base.  Then, with Liquid Glue on the back of the end panel – I adhered the pop-up mechanism onto the back of the card.

I closed the card – added Liquid Glue to the part of the folded pop-up mechanism visible in the “window” – and adhered the sentiment panel. If that was confusing to read – check the video! 🙂

On the front of the card – I added two fussy cut mushrooms in the top corner.  These are from pieces of the Snail Mail DSP that I first adhered to a piece of Basic White with Liquid Glue.  After fussy cutting them, I used Liquid Glue to adhere them to the card front.  Then I added a little bow tied from two lengths of Blushing Bride twine from the Snail Mail Trim Combo Pack, using a Glue Dot.

The Snailed It mushrooms in the other corner were first stamped in Tuxedo Black on Basic White and cut with the matching die from the Snail Dies.  Then I colored it with my Blushing Bride Stampin’ Write Marker and the Real Red and Bermuda Bay Blends Combo.  I cut the shape a second time from Basic White and adhered it to the back of the die cut with Liquid Glue – to hide the bleed-thru of the Blends.

I popped the mushrooms onto the card front with Black Stampin’ Dimensionals – and the card was done.

My Basic White Medium Envelope got the cute Snailed It word bubble in Blushing Bride and a sentiment in Real Red on the front…

…and another piece of Snail Mail DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Is it any wonder that this pop up window card is called a FUN fold?!?  I love it!  And I LOVE the Snailed It stamp set, bundled Snail Dies and the uber-cute Snail Mail DSP!!

I hope you like!

Finn Fan Fix

We worked on our new beds yesterday.

We had some help (you KNEW that, right??) to make sure that the “base” of the beds was acceptable before we added the final soil.

These beds are approved.  Carry on.

And – you’ll be glad to know that they passed muster at the end of the day, too!

But…I fear there MAY be a communication failure here – cuz…I’m not sure he QUITE understands the function of these beds….

I just love that fun fold – another one I must try! What I really need to know, though, is where you got those raised beds! Are they aluminum? I’ve always gotten ten foot 2 x 4’s, but I have to replace the boards every few years. I NEED what your have! LOL

    • stampsnlingers

LOL! Those are made from scratch by my husband – from steel pipe – metal (like we used on our barns) – and horseshoes! I’ll pass that along to him, Angie! Thank you so much! 🙂

  2. That was a fun fold and such a cute plant!

    • stampsnlingers

LOL – yes – I started it INSIDE and just moved it out there. It’s sorta an exotc species!! Thanks, Karen! 🙂

  3. Such a cute card! Love the fun fold design. Well…you said that it was a bed! And that dirt seemed nice and soft and a busy guy needs a rest now and then. 😉

    • stampsnlingers

I know – I realize the error of my ways. Words DO matter! LOL! Thanks so much, Amy! 🙂

  4. Faith Simpson

Cute card, Mary, and I like your take on one of my favorite folds!!
I hope you aren’t too sore today after all that work.
You were calling those things, BEDS, right?? What was Finn to think??

    • stampsnlingers

Well – that’s an excellent point! And I thought he didn’t listen to me!! LOL! Glad that you like the card, Faith – thanks so much! 🙂
