Stampin’ Up! Magical Mermaid Birthday Card

‘Sup, y’all?  It’s Saturday – the 1st of July (lots of good deals starting today!) – and when you read this I’ll probably be at work – maybe not for the whole day.  Fingers crossed!  We’re trying to get a little ahead so we can take the 4th off – toes crossed for us! 🙂

Today’s card has another new stamp set on it – it’s called Magical Mermaid.  And it’s very cool!  It was the only stamp set I needed for this pretty little birthday card.  Take a look-see:

The layout for this one comes from the Freshly Made Sketches challenge this week.

And the color scheme is courtesy of the Global Design Project challenge.

For this card, I used the actual front of the Pool Party card base as the card front.  To begin, I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to stamp the cute background image (crabs and shells and bubbles) from Magical Mermaid in Pool Party ink all over the front of the card.  Then I embossed it in my Seaside TIEF.

The middle panel is a piece of Pool Party DSP from the Petal Garden DSP Stack.  I SNAILd it on a Lemon Lime Twist mat and then SNAILd it to the card base.  Using Liquid Glue, I adhered a length of Berry Burst 1/2″ Finely Woven Ribbon across the panel.

For my Whisper White sentiment panel, I used the marker-to-stamp technique to color the Magical Mermaid sentiment with my Berry Burst and Lemon Lime Twist Stampin’ Write Markers.  I aligned the sentiment with my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig.

With Pool Party ink, I stamped the Magical Mermaid bubbles image around the sentiment.  Then I inked the sea-grasses image in Versamark ink and stamped it on both side of the panel, sprinkled them with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and melted the powder with my Heat Tool.  I colored the embossed grasses with my Lemon Lime Twist Stampin’ Write Marker.  I matted the panel on Lemon Lime Twist and used Liquid Glue to adhere it to the card front.

I heat embossed the mermaid in Gold on a piece of scrap Whisper White card stock and colored her with Stampin’ Write Markers.  I used all three challenge colors on her tail, finishing up with Pool Party.  Her headband is colored in Berry Burst. I did cheat on the color challenge a tad – I used So Saffron for her hair! 🙂

Then I fussy cut her and popped her over the card front with regular and mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.  And that was it for the front of the card.

On the inside, since I don’t do a lot of landscape-oriented card, I made sure that I was stamping everything the right way.  I used the marker-to-stamp technique again for the second Berry Burst and Lemon Lime Twist sentiment, added some more Magical Mermaid bubbles in Pool Party and then heat embossed a little more Gold sea grasses.

I SNAILd the panel to a Lemon Lime Twist mat and into the….ruh roh.

Sigh….

Yea.  You see it now that I said something.

I cut another piece of Whisper White and Lemon Lime Twist card stock and re-did the inside of the card.

In landscape.

(anyone need a perfectly good, portrait-oriented inner liner?!?)

I SNAILd it into the card and the card was done.  Finally! 🙂

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more Magical Mermaid bubbles and sea grass (heat embossed in gold) on the front…

…and some more of the Petal Garden DSP on the envelope flap.  And I even heat embossed another little mermaid image in Gold.  Cuz I could! 🙂

Et Voila!  I wasn’t sure about this set, but I saw so many pretty cards made with it that I just had to have it.  And once I started playing with the fun underwater images – well.  I’m happy with my decision to add it to my stash!  Hope you like!

    Orange tongue??? Surely not…

  11. Paula Poindexter

    Hi Mary,
We’ve all done the inside wrong at least once! Sometime the extra inside winds up with a WOW Bonus!
    Thanks for sharing Finn!
    Have a good holiday!

    • Thanks, Paula! It’s just always so…jolting….when you open the card to add the inside and…nope! Enjoy the long weekend! 🙂

  12. Susan K

Day late again but had to add my wowsers for this card! So awesome! I love how you combined the two challenges. You always go that extra mile, like stamping on the front before you dry embosse it and embossing the envelope in gold. Totally and completely wow!
(We finished our scoring part so only have a couple clean-up days in my project. Hope yours is going well.)

    • Thank you so much, Susan! I try to eek out an extra mile here and there!! 🙂 Glad you’re winding down – I’ve still got a bit! Bleh! 🙂

  13. What a fabulous card! I love that mermaid and all the effort you put into the card. Love the gold embossing. I would totally do the inside the wrong way too…my brain struggles with landscape! Thanks for joining us this week at Freshly Made Sketches!

    • LOL, Jen! Landscape is apparently difficult for a lot of us! Thanks so much and I appreciate you stopping by to leave a comment! 🙂
