Stampin’ Up! Dragonfly Dreams and Details Sneak Peek for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop

HappyStampersBlogPostBanner-2
Good morning, y’all – welcome to another edition of the Happy Stampers Blog Hop!  We had a fun – and interesting! – sketch challenge to work with this week.  I figure you’ll see some Christmas, some Sneak Peeks, some…who’s to say?!  I hope you’ll spend some time scrolling thru all the Blog Hoppers’ offerings today!

Here’s our sketch!

I decided to play around a little with the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits – and used a cool technique called Embossed Impressions.  I saw a card on Pinterest and discovered a great video from Jennifer McGuire – which you can check out right here!  I used the matching Dragonfly Dreams stamp set – which you’ll be able to get as a 10%-off bundle when the 2017 Occasions Catalog comes out in January.

Take a look-see:

dreamy-dragonfly-embossed-impressions-4-stamps-n-lingersAfter I watched Jennifer’s video, I decided to use some Island Indigo card stock to bring out the shimmery dragonfly wings.  Before I started my embossing, though, I used the dots image from Dragonfly Dreams to stamp in Island Indigo across the top of the panel (you probably noticed I turned the sketch on its side!).

Then I rubbed the panel with my Embossing Buddy.  To emboss the dragonflies, I made my Big Shot sandwich:  cutting plate, Silicon embossing mat (from Amazon), thinlit with the cutting side up, card stock, additional piece of card stock as a shim, silicon mat, cutting plate.  Before building the sandwich, I gently tapped the cutting edge of my thinlit with Versamark Ink.  Then I was really careful to not move the thinlit once I got everything laid down.

I embossed the panel, removed the card stock from the Big Shot sandwich and sprinkled it with Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heated it up.  Be sure you check for any stray embossing powder and brush it off carefully before heating.  Then, using my Clear Wink of Stella, I brushed the raised portions of the dragonfly wings.  I love how it makes them look iridescent!

I matted the panel on Silver Foil, then ran a length of coming-soon White/Silver 3/8″ Metallic Ribbon (this is a FREE Sale-A-Bration item!) around the card front and secured it in the back with scotch tape.

The sentiment, from Dragonfly Dreams, is heat embossed in Silver.

For the large dragonfly, I repeated the same embossing technique that I used for the card front.  Then, when it was all cool, I used the outline die to cut out the dragonfly.  And I cut a second solid dragonfly from Silver Foil.  I brushed the raised parts of the wings and then used Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere the two dragonflies together.

I stuck pieces of Stampin’ Dimensional all over the back of the dragonfly and used them to adhere loops of Silver Metallic Thread behind it, then popped it on the card front.  I added a little row of Rhinestone Basic Jewels under the sentiment and the card front was done.

On the inside, I stamped the Dragonfly Dreams dots image across the top of a Whisper White panel, using Island Indigo ink that I stamped off once before stamping the panel.  Then I added a second sentiment, heat embossing it in Silver.

I SNAILd the panel to a Silver Foil mat and into my Basic Black card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more stamped-off-once-Island-Indigo dots from Dragonfly Dreams across the front…

…and also across the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I kind of love this technique and hope you’ll give it a try, too.  And the Dragonfly Dream bundle is going to be a heavy favorite when the Occasions Catalog goes live!  Hope you like.
