Stampin’ Up! Jolly, Friendly Happy Ornament!

Good mornin’, y’all!  Hope you’re ready for Saturday.  I’m ready – and I’m danged ready for Fall.  It was 93 on Friday.  We hit what should have been our high for the day at 11am and then it just…kept..going!  Yuuuuuuk.

But – I saw a leaf fall today.  Maybe even two.  And I saw some red on the edges of a few trees.  And both of the pony-girls are darkening up – for me, this is their prettiest time of year.  Not slick and not fuzz-buckets.  Just kind of….plush.  And a dark gold.  Not to worry – they’ll be ready if a giant blizzard shows up tomorrow.  It could happen! 🙂

So, I made a Christmas card for today.  Which has nothing to do with Fall. 😉

I recently acquired the Happy Ornament stamp – this is an a la carte stamp, and it’s big and beautiful.  It’s a “statement stamp”.  You could use it all by itself and be good to go.  But, for this card, I added a couple of Jolly Friends elf hats, that I cut out with my Jolly Hat Builder Punch.  Take a look-see:

I borrowed a layout design from the TGIF challenge #72:

tgifc72-sketch
I made a card front from a piece of Candy Cane Lane DSP, matted on Real Red card stock.  Then the center panel is Whisper White on Real Red.  I really wanted to use this stamp, but I’d kind of…underestimated the extent to which it would make a statement.  Which is code for:  I really didn’t realize how big it is!  So, I put it on a bit of an angle.  And that turned out to be a happy thing for my design! 🙂

I wrapped a piece of Real Red 3/4″ Stitched Edge Ribbon around the panel, securing it in the back with scotch tape.  Then I cut out three Real Red card stock scalloped circles with my Circles Layering Framelits die and adhered them to the ribbon with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

My three hats are from the Jolly Friends stamp set.  I stamped two in Real Red and one in Emerald Envy and punched them with the matching (and bundle-able!) Jolly Hat Builder Punch.  Then I stamped the fleece trim image three times in Versamark and sprinkled them with new Emerald Envy and Real Red Glitter Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  Once you heat them up, the glitter is permanent.  Cool, huh?  Then I punched them with the Jolly Hat Builder Punch and adhered them to their hats with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.

Then I used Liquid Glue to adhere them at jaunty angles on their Real Red scalloped circles.  And I added a new Mini Jingle Bell to the end of each hat with a Glue Dot!

I finished the card front off with a bow tied from some of the new Candy Cane Lane Baker’s Twine – a length of each color – that I adhered with a dab of Liquid Glue.  And I added a few stars Enamel Shapes – one in Real Red and two in Emerald Envy.  And that was it!

On the inside, I repeated the layers of Candy Cane Lane DSP and Whisper White, all matted on Real Red card stock.  And I added another Jolly Friends hat in Emerald Envy.  I gave it a Real Red Glitter Stampin’ Emboss Powder fleece trim and a Real Red stamped bell from Jolly Friends!

I SNAILd the layered panel into my Crumb Cake card base, added the card front with SNAIL as well, and the card was done!

I added more Jolly Friends bells – in Real Red and Emerald Envy – across the front of my Crumb Cake Medium Envelope…

…and gave it a Candy Cane Lane DSP envelope flap, too!

Et Voila!  I actually think this Happy Ornament image should be stamped at an angle!  My old engineer brain wanted it to be straight up and down – but it’s really better at an angle, I think, don’t you?  And I think it looks really cute with the little elf hats.  Hope you like!
