Happy Thursday! When you read this, I’ll likely be on my way back to the homestead. Yeah! The weather has been lovely here – I’m hoping it’s the same in Atlanta. Fall-weather in August. I’ll take it!
My cards have been kind of focused on the soon-to-be-available products from the 2015 Holiday Catalog. How could they not be? They’re wonderful and fun and beautiful. And new – new toys ALWAYS get all the attention, don’t they!? Today’s card is no exception, and it’s a Christmas Card using the Wonderland stamp set and All Ye Faithful. I also pulled a single element from Every Blessing. Take a look-see:
I started by making a background on a piece of Whisper White card stock, using inspiration I got from my friend Amy Koenders. You can pop over to her website to see the card that helped me get this one going. I sponged all the edges and into the center with Soft Sky – making it a little deeper coloring on the edges.
Then I inked up my Wonderland trees with new Basic Black Archival Ink and stamped twice (without re-inking) several times across the paper. By not re-inking, you get a feeling of depth – and you don’t have to do anything special. It’s like a FREE special effect! 🙂
When that had dried sufficiently, I rubbed my Embossing Buddy over the top portion of the card stock. Then I pulled out my Every Blessing stamp set and inked up just the star with Versamark Ink. I stamped the star, sprinkled Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder over it and heat embossed it.
While that was cooling off I started work on my Nativity. I spent a lot of time trying to fit all the Wise Men and the Shepard with his sheep (part of the All Ye Faithful set) into the scene. But, it just didn’t want to cooperate. So I set them aside for another day. I stamped the Holy family on a piece of Whisper White card stock, in more of the Archival ink. Then I colored them in with my Stampin’ Write markers – I used Sahara Sand and Smoky Slate and Soft Suede. Hello Honey crowns the Baby Jesus. Then I fussy cut them all out – they’re a pretty easy design to fussy cut, so don’t shy away from doing this!
The stable is a piece of Chocolate Chip card stock, embossed with my Woodgrain TIEF and then cut out sort of randomly. The back of the stable is a rectangle, but I let the roof be more unsophisticated. Like I imagine a stable in the time of Jesus’ birth might have been. I don’t know – I just liked how it turned out – and I’ve never seen any photographs of the REAL place, have you? No. I didn’t think so. It could totally have looked just like this! 🙂
I SNAILd the fussy cut family onto the stable wall, and then adhered the roof with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I added some White Gel Pen snow to the roof – and also to some of the trees while I was at it. Then I SNAILd the whole barn to the card front.
For the sentiment, I stamped O, Come all ye faithful… onto a piece of Whisper White card stock, and then free-cut the banner. I didn’t want it to be perfectly….anything! (Good job, too – right!?). I lightly sponged the edges with more Soft Sky and then popped it onto the card front with Dimensionals. I added the finished card front to my Soft Sky card base with more Dimensionals.
The inside of the card started again with more Whisper White as the liner. I first stamped the pine bough from Wonderland in Smoky Slate in the center of the card stock. Then I stamped the sentiment from All Ye Faithful in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink over the pine bough.
I sponged the edges in Soft Sky and that did it for the inside.
Et Voila! I hope that you like this card! I love this stamp set – and really think it portrays the whole reason we celebrate Christmas!
