Stampin’ Up! Warm Merry Patterns for the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop

Happy Thursday, y’all – and welcome to the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop! We’ve got a full roster playing with today’s color challenge, so be sure to check ’em all out when you get done here!

Okay – so, not gonna fib…this one wasn’t easy for me.  Not sure why.  But it wasn’t.  On top of my dithering and fussing, I had the added dilemma of not having brought Tangerine Tango ink or card stock.  So…from the git-go I was subbing in Pumpkin Pie! 🙁

I figured it would help to have a sketch to work from, so I took advantage of the one from this week’s TGIF Challenges.

I used the Merry Patterns stamp set and a sentiment from the Hug in a Mug set.  Combined with Spooky Night DSP and some embossing….well.  Take a look-see:

I started by adhering a piece of the Spooky Night DSP onto the bottom of a Very Vanilla card front with Liquid Glue.  Then I embossed the whole thing in the Cable Knit Dynamic TIEF.  I matted it on a piece of Lemon Lime Twist card stock and wrapped some Jute Twine twice around the seam, securing it in the back with scotch tape.

For the art piece, I first stamped the Merry Patterns deer in Early Espresso on a piece of Very Vanilla and cut it out with the largest of the circle Stitched Shapes Framelits.

Then, I stamped the same image again, this time in Pumpkin Pie, on a piece of scrap Very Vanilla.  I fussy cut just the “sweater” and adhered it to my deer with Liquid Glue.

With the sentiment from the Hug in a Mug stamp set, I added a sentiment in Early Espresso ink.  Finally, I stamped the pine bough image a few times in Lemon Lime Twist at the feet of the deer.

I matted the circle on a Lemon Lime Twist scalloped circle, cut with my Circles Layering Framelits.

And then I decided to get fancy.  I cut up a couple of Foil Snowflakes and adhered them around the circle, vanilla-side up.  Then I popped it on the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  I added a small bow of Jute Twine with a Glue Dot.

Nope.  Not gonna do it – didn’t like the end result one bit.  One of those “sound in theory, flawed in execution” ideas.  I just didn’t love it.  So…carefully pried up the circle, pulled off the snowflakes and popped it back on.

There it is!  Much more better!

On the inside, I adhered a small strip of the Spooky Night DSP to a Lemon Lime Twist mat and embossed it in the Cable Knit Dynamic TIEF.  I stamped a few more Merry Patterns pine boughs in Lemon Lime Twist on a Very Vanilla panel and adhered my embossed strip over the top.

I Fast Fuse’d the panel to a Lemon Lime Twist mat and into my Early Espresso card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got a Merry Patterns deer, in Early Espresso, on the front.  Then I added some Lemon Lime Twist pine boughs…

…then I added more Spooky Night DSP to the envelope flap, and embossed it in the Cable Knit Dynamic TIEF (probably can’t see that in the picture!)!

Et Voila!  I’m not in love with the card, but I AM in love with the Merry Patterns stamp set – which is still (and only!!) available thru the end of October.  Scroll on down to find out how to get it for yourself before it’s gone-baby-gone!  Hope you like!

  1. Awesome card Mary! Love the “sweater” on your little deer, perfect for the color challenge. Doesn’t look like you struggled a bit! 🙂

  2. Gosh, I like it-probably better with Pumpkin Pie! 🙂 You did a super job improvising, Love the cable knit embossing, it works perfectly with the whole theme!

  3. Great card, Mary! That sweater-wearing deer is one of my favs and your choice of embossing folders does it proud!

  4. The deer is striking with that sweater choice. I liked it with the snowflake too. I’m not a fan of that particular pattern in the Spooky DSP. I don’t know what there is about it. But, I do know there’s something about Mary…she’s a great crafter no matter the odds against her! I WILL be CASEing!

    • You’re sweet, Karen – thanks so much! I think the DSP – with the color choices- makes me think of clothing in the 70’s. Not a good time… 😉

  5. Kate

Dither and sub, dither and sub…the results of all such dithering should be so good!

  6. Robyn Ryan

Mary, I love this sweatered deer card! #fabulous

  7. I don’t know why you aren’t in love with it, but sometimes I think the same thing. I think it is COZY…cable knit, sweater, what could be better? Great job improvising without what you needed to meet the challenge.Agree with Jari- like the pumpkin pie.

  8. I love all the texture in your card, Mary, and the Pumpkin Pie looks great (and is a close enough).

  9. Oh wow, this is a super awesome card! I love your combination of the DSP, with the cable knit folder, and the sweater on deer–it’s all so genius. A big thanks for joining along with our sketch challenge at TGIF. Smiles, Elizabeth

  10. Carol Carriveau

Your card is great!!! Lovin the pic of your sweetheart pup, who is wishing Mom was at home…..misses you as much as you miss FFF!

  11. Kristi

Love that dear in his warm sweater, adorable and love the layout and your embossing, it really just made that card over the top wonderful.

  12. Fantastic card Mary! Love the jumper on the dear and then all the different patterns and elements for a fun and fabulous card. Thanks for playing along and supporting us this week at TGIF Challenges. Rochelle xo

  13. Susan K

Super card. I too like it better with the green scalloped layer than the snowflake–that deer isn’t dressed for fru-fru. 😉

  14. I just love the little deer in his pumpkin pie sweater. Duhhhhhhhh, I’ve been looking at sweater-wearing deer but I couldn’t figure out how to stamp the sweater on them. I feel foolish now!!!! Love your blog. Bev

    • Hey Bev! Thanks so much! I saw someone somewhere do the double-stamp-and-fussy-cut with the sweater…so, don’t feel too bad! Now you know the trick, too. Thank you for following me!! 🙂

  15. The cable knit background and the sweater are so fabulous!!! Love this Mary.
