Stampin’ Up! Better Together With Sunshine Wishes

Mornin’, y’all!  Hope your week is going well!

Before we get to the card – let me remind you of the Ordering Special I’ve got going on right now.  I’ve put some info down below – bottom line:  you’ve got until Monday, 8 May to cash in by ordering the Premier Eastern Palace Bundle thru my Online Store!

So my card for today is another sympathy card – this time for a friend of my friends’ parents.  He recently lost his Jack Russel Terrier.  I don’t know much about the gentleman, but I suspect he lived alone with his dog in the retirement community.  So – doubly sad.  And it meant I needed a card masculine enough to suit a man, but sentimental enough to suit the occasion.

Now – I don’t have a stamp for every breed of dog, so I can’t completely personalize a card.  But, I pulled out the sleeping dog in the Sitting Here stamp set, combined it with a little bit of Sunshine Wishes die cuts and new Wood Textures DSP.  The Better Together stamp set lent the sentiments.  Take a look-see:

I started with a piece of the Wood Textures DSP Stack paper and, using the sleeping dog image in the Sitting Here stamp set, I stamped the dog all over the panel in Soft Suede ink that I stamped off once on scrap paper before I stamped the panel.

One might say it was…ghosted.

Bad form, Mary.  Bad form.

Then I inked up the sentiment from Better Together with Versamark Ink and, using my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to position it, stamped it in the bottom corner.  I sprinkled it with Copper Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed it.

I used the heart die in the Sunshine Wishes Thinlits set to cut a heart from a piece of white-washed DSP in the Wood Textures stack and one from Copper Foil.

Next I made my embellishment from a length of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon and one of new 1/4″ Copper Trim (avail 1 June).  I folded both pieces over once, layered the Copper Trim on the Burlap and stapled them together with my Handheld Stapler.  Then I used Liquid Glue to adhere the ribbons to the panel.

I used more Liquid Glue to adhere my two Sunshine Wishes hearts to the panel over the ribbon.  Finally, I made a small bow from the 1/4″ Copper Trim and adhered it with a Glue Dot.  I SNAILd the panel to a Copper Foil mat and the card front was done!

On the inside, I used a piece of the whitewashed paper in the Wood Textures Stack as my inner liner, stamping a second sentiment from Better Together in Soft Suede in the middle.  Down in the corner, I stamped my Sitting Here dog in Chocolate Chip, covered him with a sticky note mask that I’d carefully stored in my stamp case for just such an occasion, and stamped his dog bed over top with Soft Suede.  I used my Sahara Sand and So Saffron Stampin’ Write Markers to color the bed, and added some JRT-like spots on the dog with my Soft Suede Marker.

I SNAILd the panel to my Copper Foil Mat and into my….no.  Wait.  What I did next was use my Heat Tool to loosen up the SNAIL so I could pull the panel off the mat.  Cuz….I’d made a portrait inner liner for my landscape card. 👀

I pulled it off, re-did the inner liner (the right way this time!), SNAILd it to it’s Copper Foil mat and into a Tranquil Tide card base (avail right now in the Eastern Palace Premier Bundle!!).  Then I popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got my Sitting Here JRT-like dog on the front…

…and I added a bit more of the whitewash Wood Textures DSP to the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I think – hope! – this will fill the bill.  I discovered that a card to express sympathy for the loss of pet – for a MAN – is a lot harder than I expected.  Hope he likes it – and I hope you like it, too!

Finn-Fan Fix…

I’m pretty sure he’s checking that Bo’s stall is latched.

Or he’s asking him “Why the long face?”

Either is equally plausible. 😏

  1. Perfect masculine card! Love the woodgrain background with the copper embossing. Great design! Love that picture of Finn too. 🙂

  2. It’s always so sad when you lose a pet. Great job on the card! I LOVE that copper trim and it will be on my list June 1.

I really like it and it strikes the right balance for loss of a pet. I am certain he will like it too. Nice that you painted the JRT spots. Don’t know that I could have done that. Or would even have thought of it. Loved copper before, love it especially with the wood! Got my order in!! Can’t wait to get it all.

    • Whoo-hoo! I got mine in before I even had all my coffee this morning! Just one more perk of being a Demonstrator, huh?? 🙂 Can’t wait to see what you create with the goodies – especially the wood and copper!! Thanks much, Julie! 🙂

Can’t decide which I love the most …. your gorgeous masculine card or the photo of Finn in the barn! First let me say that your card almost brought me to tears as I think of what it will mean to the gentleman who has lost his canine friend! I believe he will treasure your heartfelt creation! And of course I love seeing Finn “managing” things in the barn …. making sure everything is being done properly. lol

    • Yes, he keeps us all in line! Or tries to – his methods aren’t all that efficient. Thanks much for the nice words about the card, Rita – I hope it will make him smile a little. 🙂
