Happy Thursday, y’all – and welcome to the Happy Inkin’ Thursday Blog Hop!  If you’re following along with us, you’ll know this is color week!  Be sure to check out all our talented ladies-who-hop! 🙂

Now – the colors we’re working with today – not really easy ones for me!

Since I needed all my brain power to create something in this color scheme, I let the fine folks over at the Fusion challenge help me with the layout…

fusion-sketch
Fusion is a cool one – cuz you can do their sketch, their photo inspiration, or both!  I used just the sketch.

Duh – right?? 🙂

So – I decided this was a beachy color scheme and pulled out the new Day at the Beach stamp set, and once again turned to the Sunshine Sayings set for my sentiment.  Take a look-see:

I started with a piece of the Serene Scenery DSP –  I love this paper, and keep forgetting to pull it out! – and SNAILd it to a Watermelon Wonder mat for the card stock.  Then I added a Lace Doily – with the Whisper White side up – using a little bit of Liquid Glue.

I wrapped some Whisper White Thick Baker’s Twine around the card front, criss-crossing it in the middle, and securing it in the back with scotch tape – and then I was ready to decorate!

The middle panel is a piece of Pool Party card stock that I embossed in the Seaside TIEF, matted on Watermelon Wonder and popped over the twine with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

For my sentiment, I used a sentiment from Sunshine Sayings, stamping each word separately in Crumb Cake ink (I used my Crumb Cake Stampin’ Write Marker to color each word individually) on Whisper White card stock.  Then I cut each word out and edged them with my Watermelon Wonder Stampin’ Write Marker.  I saved the words until last so that I’d know where to put them!

The last piece to build was the Day at the Beach flip-flops.  I stamped the image twice in Crumb Cake on Whisper White.  Then, using my rubbing-alcohol-filled Aqua Painter and the lids of my ink pads, I colored them in Pool Party and Watermelon Wonder.

I cut both images out with a die from the Stitched Shapes Framelits.  I also cut a scalloped circle – using my Circle Layering Framelits – from Watermelon Wonder.  Then I adhered the circles to their mats with Liquid Glue and added them to the card front – using Liquid Glue and some pieces of Stampin’ Dimensional.

The last thing to do was adhere each sentiment word with Liquid Glue – and the card front was done!

On the inside, I added a second Sunshine Sayings sentiment in Crumb Cake on a Whisper White panel.  Then I added Crumb Cake flip-flops in each corner, coloring them again with my Aqua Painter.

I SNAILd the panel to a Watermelon Wonder mat and into my Crumb Cake card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more Day at the Beach flip-flops on the front…

…and added a little more of the Serene Scenery DSP to the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  It wasn’t a conscious decision, but I ended up with what would be a great card for a newly engaged couple – or even for the wedding, don’t you think?  Especially if they’re beachy people!  Gotta love the sunny images in the Day at the Beach stamp set – and, of course, Sunshine Sayings is filled with handy sentiments!  Hope you like!

  1. Very cute card! Love those flip-flops and the seaside background is perfect. Great design! 🙂

  2. Again, my message was truncated…but there was no FFF. I totally understand…who has time to look at or read about Finn when there’s blog hopping to do 🙂

I’m with you on the colors…not in my comfort zone. However, YOU did a great job. I’ve been waiting to see the beach set used. I ordered it over a month ago and haven’t used it yet. Maybe I’ll get it out today because it’s a beautiful day in Florida to go to the beach. Off to the hop for now. Have a great day Mary!

    • It’s a fun little set – you definitely need to play with it!! Thanks much, Karen. And yes – I don’t do FFF’s when I’m on a Blog Hop. Just like I didn’t advertise my Free Shipping special – don’t want to distract folks from the other ladies who made their beuaitufl projects for the hop! Maybe I need to put some kind of something in the FFF spot, though, so folks don’t think their post is screwed up! 🙂

ah, how adorable Mary, it makes me think of Spring, come on spring!…haha..I’ll have to bring my flip flops in April when we visit you all, haha..

  4. Mary this is way,way cool. I love the flip flops and you colored them beautifully. Love that addition of the Seaside TIEF to really finish off the theme. Super card!

  5. Susan K

So cute! And that seaside EF is perfect for this. Love the flip flops. Had my manicure this week and been wearing my flip flops this week! Crazy Feb. weather here in NC!

    • I know – here, too! I love it – but…I’m afeared it portends the summer from he double-hockey sticks!! 🙁 Thanks much, Susan! 🙂

  6. Beth's Fancy Stamping

Very cool card Mary! Great use of the Serene Scenery.

  7. Ellie Peckler

Ooh, I love soft sky and watermelon wonder together. What an upbeat and pretty card! – Ellie

  8. It’s funny because I LOVED these colors together. I suppose everyone has their “go-to” colors. I loved your card especially with a “beachy” feel with the flip-flops and embossed panel! Love!
