Stampin’ Up! Ghoulishly Spooky Halloween Fun!

Happy Sunday, y’all!  When you read this – I should be on the road.  On my way to get my surprise!

Are you ready to know what it is?  Actually “it” is a “he”!

Here he is!

puppy-1
This is…well, his name is TBD.  I have a few choices in my head and am hoping he’ll tell me what the right name is when I meet him!  He’s not a rescue – don’t judge me, please, I’m doing enough of that myself! – but…he’s from the same parents as my friend’s Aussie – and she’s a wonderful girl.  So, when he became available, I kind of jumped on him!

Life as we know it now is fixin’ to have a huge upheaval!  It’s been a while since we’ve had a dog in the house and even longer since we had a puppy!  And if I think my life is going to be different, I have a couple of kitties that I’m afraid are in for a bit of a shock when we get home.  Hopefully they’ll forgive me… 🙂

So there it is – the big surprise!  As I hinted, nothing to do with card making!  But, I did make a card for you today.  A Halloween card!  I used the  Spooky Fun stamp set and the matching Halloween Scenes Edgelits, and added in some texture from Ghoulish Grunge.  Take a look-see:

The layout and color scheme came from a couple of challenges.  The first drove the layout – from Pals Paper Arts, challenge #322:

ppa322-sketch
And challenge #98 from Fab Friday gave me my color scheme:

Now, I made the card front twice.  The first time, I made it as a shaker card.  Which it’s quite suited to – but, I wasn’t at all happy with my result.  So I re-did it and this is the card I ended up with.  Lots better than the shaker, I promise!

To begin, I used a Basic Black card stock panel and stamped all over with the mesh-y image in Ghoulish Grunge, using Whisper White Craft Ink.  I just kept stamping and stamping until it looked right.  When it was good and dry, I used the spider web image and inked it twice in Versamark, then sprinkled it with Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heated it up.

Then I took the Perfect Plum design tape from the Halloween Night Designer Washi Tape and ran four strips across the panel.  Using my 2″ Circle Punch, I punched a hole in the card – tape and all.

To make the tree image, I used the Halloween Scenes edgelit to cut the tree from a piece of Basic Black card stock, then adhered it to a Pumpkin Pie square.   I ran Foam Adhesive strips around the opening in my card front and popped the tree-embellished Pumpkin Pie square behind it.  Then I used more Foam Adhesive strips to pop the card front onto a Wild Wasabi mat.  I realized when I was completely done that I’d used Wild Wasabi instead of Old Olive…we’ll have to just squint our eyes and pretend, okay? 🙂

I stamped a bunch of bats from the Spooky Fun set in Basic Black Archival ink on Perfect Plum card stock and cut them all out with their matching die in Halloween Scenes.  Using my Signo White Gel Pen, I gave them all little beady white eyes!  That’s when I got the idea to add a bunch of white eyes on the tree silhouette! 🙂

I stamped “eeek!” a few time in Black on Wild Wasabi and snipped them out.  Then, using Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue, I stuck them inside the “window”.  The bats are also adhered with Liquid Glue – with the exception of the one on the bottom right side – it’s got a Stampin’ Dimensional under the left wing…

My sentiment is also from Spooky Fun – stamped in Basic Black on Wild Wasabi and the two words cut out individually.  I adhered them with Liquid Glue.  I finished up with some Pumpkin Pie Enamel shapes, and the card front was done!

On the inside, I stamped a Whisper White panel with more of the Ghoulish Grunge spider webs – this time in Basic Black Archival Ink.  Then I added a few Perfect Plum bats and Wild Wasabi spiders from Spooky Fun.

Now, before you think that Wild Wasabi spiders are not realistic….I had an eensy-weensy-spider crawl up my coffee cup….and he was lime green!  Really!  He was awfully cute.

Perfect Plum bats are, on the other hand – maybe – a bit of a stretch!

I SNAILd the panel to a Wild Wasabi mat and then into my Perfect Plum card base, SNAILd the card front on, and that was it!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got two strips of Halloween Night Designer Washi Tape across the front…

…and some Spooky Fun bats and spiders on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Even though this is the perfect card to be made as a shaker – I’m really glad that I ended up going this direction.  I love the bats flying out of the tree-filled “cave”!  Hope you like! 🙂

Oh-my-gosh he is ADORABLE. Look forward to hearing his name. – Ellie
P.S. I’m always wondering how to use washi tape so thanks for a great idea!

    • Washi can be easy or it can be difficult. I try to wait until my card says – “this would be a great spot to use some Washi Tape”, versus trying to make a card that uses Washi Tape. If that made sense! And, he’s even cuter in person! Dog-son? Thanks so much, Ellie! 🙂

  12. Sherry

Congrats! There’s in my mind than a puppies unconditional love, enjoy!!

  13. Mary – this is so neat with the bats coming out!! I actually thought you joined in on TGIF challenge – very similar to the PPA challenge!

    • Thanks very much, Mal. And Aussie in Australia! 🙂 I’m already enjoying his personality – he loves to play and he stays very close by us. He’s very different from our last boy. 🙂

  15. Awwwwww…he’s so cute! Congrats on the new addition to your household! Good luck with the kitties…I don’t think ours ever forgave us after we brought our Border Collie mix home! Lol! They were not down with being herded! And a super cute card! Love how you made the bats look like they are flying out of the tree and their eyes are a great touch! Thanks for sharing at Fab Friday!

    • Thanks so much, Amanda! Right now, he’s way more scared of them – he has no idea what in the world they are!! I think they’ll end up being fine. Until he tries to herd them! 🙂

  16. Wow! I LOVE this card! I think you made the right choice changing from a shaker – the little white eyes on the tree are BRILLIANT! All your details are just perfect – I totally can forgive the Wild Wasabi, lol. Thanks so much for playing at Fab Friday!
