Stampin’ UP! Spotlight on Nature Trifold Hidden Door Fun Fold with Video Tutorial

Good morning, everyone.  Hope your weekend is going well!  We had a nice visit with the kids and the tiny human yesterday.  It’s always good to see and spend some time with them.  That little guy is growing like a dandelion and is cute as a button, too!

My card today is a fun fold that I’ve seen going around – the first I saw was from one of my talented Critters-N-Creatin’ Krew team members!  It’s called a Trifold Hidden Door Card and I used mine to showcase one of my favorites – the Spotlight on Nature bundle – and some of the pretty Frames & Flowers Specialty DSP.  Take a look-see:

The layout for the front of this card was inspired by this week’s Tuesday Morning Sketches challenge.

There’s quite a few videos out there on how to make this fun fold, but…I took most of the specs from Dawn Griffith’s version. 🙂

I started with a 5 1/2″ x 6 1/4″ piece of Lost Lagoon cardstock, scored and folded at 4 1/4″ for the main card base.

I used Flowers & Frames DSP, adhered with Liquid Glue, to decorate the front panel and the inside of the back panel.

I cut another – solid – piece of the DSP, using a narrow Stylish Shapes banner die – and adhered it on the back panel with Liquid Glue.

The trifold section is a 3 1/2″ x 10 1/2″ piece of Lost Lagoon – scored and folded at 2″, 3″, 5 1/2″ and 8″.  I folded and burnished each score line both directions.

The trifold section ends up with the 2″ and 3″ score lines folded as “mountains” and the 5 1/2″ and 8″ score lines folded as “valleys”.

I used another design of the Frames & Flowers DSP on the front panel and then again on the second (narrow) panel. And I cut another solid Stylish Shapes banner and divided it between those two panels.

It’s easiest to decorate the trifold section BEFORE assembling the card so – that’s what I did.  For the hidden door panel – I stamped a Basic White panel a few times with the hashmark image from Spotlight on Nature in Lemon Lolly ink.

Then I adhered a die cut from the Frames & Flowers DSP to the panel with Liquid Glue.  In the corner, I stamped the Spotlight on Nature sentiment in Pretty Peacock ink and then adhered the panel to the last panel of the trifold section with Liquid Glue.

The three inside panels are all Basic White and I stamped them with the foliage and butterfly images from Spotlight on Nature in Early Espresso Ink.

I colored the images with the Light Lost Lagoon, Dark Petal Pink and Dark Lemon Lolly Stampin’ Blends.

I stamped the hashmark image several times on each panel in Lemon Lolly Ink and then adhered them to the three inside panels.

At that point – I assembled the card.  Using Liquid Glue on the back of the first panel of the trifold I adhered it to the front of the card base – tucking the edge of the card base right up into the 2″ score line.

Then I used Liquid Glue on the back of the third panel (so…the panel between the 5 1/2″ and the 8″ lines) and used that to adhere that one panel to the back of the card base.  Note: watching the video is the best way to see what this word salad meant! Check the video below at about the 40 min point (yes, this one’s a little longer than usual!).

On a piece of Basic White cardstock, I stamped the Spotlight on Nature floral in Early Espresso and cut it out with a small Spotlight on Nature circle die (it’s about 2 1/4″ wide).

I colored the image with the Dark Petal Pink and Light Pretty Peacock Stampin’ Blends.  Then, using Liquid Glue on the front panel, I adhered the circle die cut.

On a piece of Basic White, I stamped a Spotlight on Nature sentiment in Pretty Peacock ink and used Paper Snips to cut it out.  I edged the little sentiment with my Pretty Peacock Stampin’ Write Marker and adhered it with Liquid Glue.

I used two lengths of Linen Thread to tie a simple bow and adhered it with a little dab of Liquid Glue.

I added a swarm of Adhesive-backed Dragonflies & Birds – on the front and among the inner panels and the card was done!

My Basic White Medium Envelope got the Spotlight on Nature floral stamped and colored on the front…

…and more of the Frames & Flowers Specialty DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  So – if you don’t have the Spotlight on Nature bundle – snatch it up!  It’s simply gorgeous – and I love the florals and sentiments.  And the bundled dies are incredibly handy to have on hand!  And – although the Frames & Flowers Specialty DSP is currently unavailable – it WILL be back!!  So – if you don’t have any – be watching and getcha some!  Whatever DSP you DO have on hand right now – pull it out and use it to decorate this fun Trifold Hidden Door fun fold – it’s super cool and pretty darned easy!

The states with upcoming tax holidays are:  Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.  So, if you live in one of those states or Puerto Rico, take a second to download the spreadsheet below and mark your calendar!

Here’s the list of states having sales tax holidays, what the dates are and what SU! supplies will qualify for tax free purchases (HINT:  Stampin’ Dimensionals qualify in ALL the states! Just sayin’!) during the holiday (click on the image to download a full-size printable page):

Please note:  You have to place your order with Stampin’ Up!
