Stampin’ Up! Greenery Unbounded Origami Fun Fold Birthday for Creative Creases #86

Good morning, y’all!  Happy Friday.  Hope you had a good day yesterday – and took a moment to be grateful for the blessing of living in these United States!  And hope you and your pets came thru the fireworks unscathed! 🙂 WE spent several hours out at the barn – all the lights on – all the doors closed (and yes, it WAS 90 when we did it) – with Cady.  Who wasn’t having any of it, thank you very much.  It was…quite the production to keep her cool – try to get her brain working – and trying to convince her she was listening to thunder (which doesn’t usually scare her).  We finally left her around midnight when it seemed that the worst of it was over and she started to nap and eat her hay.  Thank you so much, all you firework fools. 😡

My card today was inspired by a card one of my teammates, Judi Hartbarger, sent to me for my birthday!  It’s a cool fun fold – don’t really know the name of it so I dubbbed it…the Origami fold.  And I decorated it as a birthday card using the Unbounded Love bundle (in the Annual Catalog) and the Golden Greenery bundle and Season of Green & Gold Specialty DSP (both in the Online Exclusives).  Take a look-see:

Now – the layout for the FRONT of this cool fun fold was inspired by the sketch challenge at Sunday Stamps.

You’ll see this card – along with the other Design Team members’ cards –  at this week’s Creative Creases Challenge! We’re all about the Fun Folds and I hope you’ll come and join us!

This card starts with a 6″ x 12″ piece of the Season of Green & Gold Specialty DSP.  Using my Paper Trimmer, I scored at 3″ and 9″ on the long side.

Then I used a pencil to mark the 6″ point and, again with the Trimmer, scored from each corner to the center point.

Like this:

Then I folded and burnished each score line.  I did each score line both directions, just to get them nice and pliable.

Then I created the actual origami fold.

Each score is folded “in” (towards the side of the DSP that will be on the inside when folded) or “out (towards the side of the DSP that will be on the outside).

With the fold established, I stamped a square of Very Vanilla with the sentiment from Unbounded Love in Mossy Meadow ink.  Over it, I stamped a foliage image from Golden Greenery (this is a NEW set in the Online Exclusives!!) in stamped-off-once Old Olive ink.

Then I adhered the panel to the inside of the card with Liquid Glue.  Note: make sure that you stamp this with the panel in “diamond” orientation.

I folded up the card and got to work on the front.

Now – regardless of how it LOOKS in the unfolded photo above – to CLOSE the card – you’re going to want to fold the score lines as follows.

And then you’ll have a nice flat – square.  Diamond….

Stampin' Up! Greenery Unbounded Origami Fun Fold Birthday for Creative Creases #86 - Stamps-N-Lingers

…that fits perfectly in a Medium (A2) envelope!

And – if you WANTED to – you could add a panel to the back – there’s lots of real-estate – to give yourself more room to pen a message!  As you can see – I did NOT do that!

For the front – I used the third-from-smallest and the next-to-smallest Deckled Rectangle dies to cut out two different designs from the Season of Green & Gold Specialty DSP.  I adhered the smaller rectangle to the larger with Liquid Glue.

I cut three pretty foliage images from the Season of Green & Gold Specialty DSP using the dies in the Golden Greenery Die set (I love that).  I adhered them to the matted rectangles with Liquid Glue.

I tied a simple bow with two lengths of Crumb Cake Baker’s Twine and adhered it with a little Liquid Glue.

I stamped the Unbounded Love sentiment in Mossy Meadow ink on Very Vanilla and cut it out with an Unbounded Love die.  I popped it over the bow with double-stacked Stampin’ Dimensionals.  I added some gold Adhesive-backed Metallic Gems.

To finish off, I used Liquid Glue on just the left side of the rectangle and adhered it to the left side of the closed card – and the card was done!

My Basic White Medium Envelope got the Golden Greenery foliage in Mossy Meadow ink on the front…

…and more of the Season of Green & Gold Specialty DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  What a fun fun fold, right?!  I’m glad I was the lucky recipient of one so that I could engineer it and make one myself!  I love the new Golden Greenery bundle – the foliage (pine boughs!) and other images are so pretty.  And being able to cut pre-printed images from the Season of Green & Gold Specialty DSP is an added – and welcome! – bonus! The Unbounded Love Bundle – being an all-sentiment set – is a great go-with set and it’ll let you send a wide range of messages!  Gotta love it!

Finn Fan Fix

Yesterday at dinner at our friends’ house, I stepped from the living room into the kitchen.

And saw….

That’s Higgins.

Guess that’s not a pose that’s JUST for Aussies!!

  2. Carrie Sheridan

Mary, this card is so beautiful! A unique and special fold, all that lovely foliage, and such pretty DSP make this birthday card one to treasure! As always, thanks for sharing detailed instructions.

  3. Amy Koenders

Such a pretty card Mary! Love the colors and the fun fold design is awesome!! Yeah, it’s a dog thing…sometimes you just have to put your feet up. 🙂

    • stampsnlingers

Yep – air those toes out! Thanks Amy! 🙂

  4. Karen Finkle

Oh, my…love your card and the template BUT I think I might need a video 🙂 The dog pose just warms my heart. I hear you about the fireworks. Chester would have been very frightened last night. I could see smoke in the back field and it is VERY dry here. In FL he would watch them from inside but there was no sound. There was plenty of sound here. I just feel so bad for all the animals. The birds were not happy. Glad you were able to soothe Cady.

    • stampsnlingers

Yeah – I truly hate them! :(. Thanks Karen – I’ll put it on the list for a video night! 🙂

  5. Sue Floyd

Wow! Great creative fun fold Mary. Thanks for the directions. I have so much DSP that’s just waiting to become this card.

Thanks, Sue! It’s a great fold for pretty paper!! 🙂

  6. Debbie Mageed

Wow, Mary, this “origami” fold lives up to its name! I love that you made it with DSP since cutting layers on all those folds would be more than I could handle! Perfect fold to showcase our beautiful papers.

I definitely agree with you about the fireworks! They are so tough on wild animals and even people having issues with loud sounds. Plus they go on for hours! Luckily my kitty doesn’t seem to be too upset from them but I have had pets that did and it wasn’t fun for them.

    • stampsnlingers

Yes, indeed. Sitting here on Friday evening hoping that everyone got it out of their system yesterday! Thanks so much, Debbie!! 🙂

  7. Kate

    I think it’s in canine DNA. 😂
