Stampin’ Up! Let’s Get Gone Fishing Retirement Card

Happy Tuesday, y’all!  Hope your week is going well.  And – if you’re in the path of the latest Pineapple Express – I am wishing you safety!!  Y’all be careful out there!

My card today is a special request Retirement card for a family friend.  Based on the recipient – a fisherMAN – I pulled out the Let’s Go Fishing DSP and the cool Gone Fishing bundle, cuz…duh?!?  Take a look-see:

Now – I got a few ideas from a very cool shaker card my friend and teammie Nel Thames made the other night – I loved her Linen Thread fishing line! So – I copied it.  Thanks, Nel!

I started by adhering a piece of lure-covered paper from the Let’s Go Fishing DSP to the front of a Thick Very Vanilla card base using Liquid Glue.

Next – I used the tackle-box-divider die in the Gone Fishing die set to cut out a Wild Wheat divider.  And – I held onto the pieces that got cut out, too.

Using Foam Adhesive Strips, I adhered the divider die cut to a Wild Wheat panel.  Note – before sticking the divider to the panel, I used my Wild Wheat Stampin’ Write Marker to color the edges of the foam strips – I didn’t want to be able to see them at all! 😎

On one of the cut-out pieces – I stamped the Gone Fishing sentiment in Versamark Ink, sprinkled it with White Embossing Powder and heat set it with my Heat Tool.  Then I slid it into place – adhering it with Liquid Glue.

I embossed the remaining cut-out pieces in the triangles folder from the Geometric Patterns Embossing Folders.  I used Liquid Glue to put them in place, too – putting a couple in “embossed side up” and the others in “embossed side down”.

Then I made some “stuff” to put in the tackle box!

– I stamped the fly in Crumb Cake ink three times on Very Vanilla cardstock.  I used the fill stamp to fill each of the lures – one each in Calypso Coral, Misty Moonlight and Mossy Meadow.  Then I cut them out with the coordinating Gone Fishing Die.

– I stamped the “congrats” sentiment in Wild Wheat on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock and cut it out with the spinner die from the set.  I touched up the sentiment a little – to make it darker – using my Wild Wheat Stampin’ Write Marker.

– Using the various dies, I cut out three little feathers (for the three flies), the large spinner and little triangle, and four hooks from silver Holographic Trio Specialty paper.

– I used Liquid Glue to adhere the three silver feathers to the three die cut flies.

I adhered the pieces and parts into the tacklebox using Liquid Glue and Stampin’ Dimensionals.

– I used Liquid Glue to adhere the Calypso Coral fly and Dimensionals to adhere the Mossy Meadow lure in the top compartment.

– I used Liquid Glue for the hooks and the triangle piece in the middle compartment.  For the spinner, I put a dimensional under the right end and used Liquid Glue on the left end to adhere it in place.

I added Rustic Metallic Adhesive-backed Dots to the corners and intersections of the divider-frame.

For the Misty Moonlight fly – I tied a loop in the end of a length of Linen Thread and then adhered that to the end of the fly with a little dab of Liquid Glue.  Then I adhered the lure in place with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I looped the end of the Linen Thread up and around the frame of the divider – using Glue Dots up in the corners to secure it.  As it looped “around” a few Rustic Metallic dots – I used tiny pieces of Glue Dot (yes, I cut them up and squished them down!) – to secure the Linen Thread.

Down in the bottom compartment – I used Liquid Glue to adhere a final looping of Linen Thread – then I slid the sentiment spinner into place – securing it with a Stampin’ Dimensional – and the card front was done!

On the inside, I stamped a third sentiment from Gone Fishing in Wild Wheat on a Very Vanilla panel.  I stamped the fly in Crumb Cake and used Misty Moonlight for the fill.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Wild Wheat mat and into my Thick Very Vanilla card base, popped the tackle-box card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got the Crumb Cake and Misty Moonlight fly on the front…

…and more lure-strewn Let’s Go Fishing DSP on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Well – I hope this is a foreshadowing of what our friend will find plenty of time to do in his well-earned retirement!  Let’s Go Fishing DSP is a great starting point for ANY masculine card – even those NOT wanting a “fishing theme”.  But – for those of you who DO want to get pescatorius, then…do look to the Gone Fishing bundle – it’s pretty much…perfect!

What a great card! You put a lot of talent into this card.

  3. I do believe Finn could find popcorn if it was well hidden, say, between the cushions.
What a fabulous card for a retiree who most likely will now get to do more fishing! Would be good for any occasion. Great way to loop the linen thread to tie together the elements.
