Good morning and happy Friday! This weekend is my designated weekend to get my seeds ordered – and start to think about how the garden is going to be set up this year. I’d SAY it’s time to start getting it cleaned up for Spring but…a peek at the weather says that could be a very soggy – and CHILLY!- proposition! 🌧🌧🌧🌧🌧 A couple of days with the windows open and I’m convinced it’s SPRING! So – I’ll bow to the reality that it’s really still WINTER – and do indoor things! 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
My card today is sort of a Springy one – okay – it’s a LOT Springy! It’s got the Sweet Songbirds stamp set featured on a cool fun fold – this is a Surprise Gate Fold Panel Card – with one of my fave papers – the Dandy Designs DSP. Take a look-see:
The layout for the front of this card was inspired by this week’s Tuesday Morning Sketches challenge.
And the musical notes on this card were inspired by The Paper Players theme challenge!
I saw this fold from Elaine Schader at Elaine’s Creations – and wanted to give it a go! So…I did! 🙂
I started with a 5 1/2″ x 8″ piece of Fresh Freesia cardstock and used the Stampin’ Trimmer to :
– Score on the long side at 2″ and 6″.
– I turned the cardstock 90 degrees and cut between the two score lines at 1 1/4″.
– I turned the cardstock 180 degrees and cut between the two score lines again at 1 1/4″.
– I turned the cardstock again to put the long side at the top and scored at 3″ and 5″ – just between the two cut lines.
– Finally, on the long side, I scored at 4″ – from the top of the cardstock to the first cut line and again from the bottom of the cardstock to the cut line.
I folded the 2″ and 6″ score lines towards each other to create the gates and then folded all the remaining score lines as “Mountains”.
I matted 4 pieces of the amazing Dandy Designs DSP (this is FREE during Sale-a-Bration with a $100+ order!!) on Coastal Cabana cardstock and then used Liquid Glue to adhere them to the outside and inside of the two gate panels.
Four smaller pieces of the DSP, matted on Coastal Cabana, went on the inside panels.
On a small piece of Basic White cardstock, I stamped the leaves from the Sweet Songbirds stamp set in Shaded Spruce ink – then added the branch in Soft Suede. I stamped a sentiment from the Beautifully Happy set (ALSO available for FREE with a $100+ order during Sale-a-Bration!) in Balmy Blue ink.
I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Coastal Cabana mat and then to the middle panel on the inside of the card.
For the front, I embossed a piece of Basic White cardstock in the Merry Melody 3D Embossing Folder and matted it on a piece of Fresh Freesia cardstock. Using Liquid Glue ONLY on the left side of the matted panel, I adhered it to the left gate on the front of the card. Note: be sure to NOT get glue on the other end of the strip – or you’ll adhere your gates together. Which sort of defeats the purpose! 🤔
I used the little notes image from Sweet Songbird to stamp two short lengths of Natural Finish 7/8″ Ribbon – and adhered them to the embossed panel with Glue Dots.
On a piece of Basic White cardstock, I stamped the leaves from the Sweet Songbirds stamp set in Shaded Spruce ink – then added the branch in Soft Suede. I also stamped the nest from the set in Soft Suede and colored it with the Light Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blend. Then I used my Paper Snips to cut out both images.
I adhered the branch with Liquid Glue – and popped the nest on with a few Stampin’ Dimensionals.
On another piece of Basic White, I stamped the Sweet Songbirds bird in Balmy Blue. I added his “belly” (there’s a belly stamp!) in Coastal Cabana. I also stamped a Coastal Cabana wing. Then I cut them out with the Songbird Builder Punch (y’all – THIS is now available for FREE with a $50+ order while Sale-a-Bration lasts!! A FREE Punch?? Yes, please!!).
His cute little eyes are stamped in Soft Suede – and I colored his beak with the Mango Melody Stampin’ Write Marker.
I tucked him inside the nest – adhering him with a little Liquid Glue. Then I popped the wing on with a Stampin’ Dimensional.
On a strip of Basic White, I stamped the Sweet Songbirds sentiment in Balmy Blue ink, snipped a banner, edged it with the Mango Melody Stampin’ Write Marker and adhered it with Liquid Glue.
I tied a small simple bow from Parakeet Party twine from the 2022-2024 In Color Baker’s Twine and adhered it with a little dab of Liquid Glue. Finally, I added some Fresh Freesia Opaque Adhesive-backed Gems – on the front AND one on the inside! – and the card was done!
My Basic White Medium Envelope got the Sweet Songbirds branch and leaves on the front…
…and more of the Dandy Designs DSP on the envelope flap.
Et Voila! Wow – I love this fun fold, don’t you?!? It gives SO many spots to show off our gorgeous paper – and this FREE Dandy Designs DSP is one of my absolute faves! It is just so bright and cheery and wonderful! With the addition of the Sweet Songbirds sentiment and images – some fussy cut and some punched with the Songbird Builder Punch (that is on the latest release of FREE Sale-A-Bration selections!!) – it just makes my heart happy!!
