Stampin’ Up! Cotton-Covered Country Home Video Tutorial

Good morning, y’all!  Well – it’s back to the real world and the grind and all that yada yada that is life-outside-an-inkin’-krew-retreat.

Sigh… 🙁

But – we’re already making plans for the Second Annual Inkin’ Krew Retreat – YEAH! – AND we’ll see a lot of these wonderful ladies in November at OnStage (plus some team members who weren’t able to attend this weekend).   So…whoo-hoo!

If you were able to join me last night for my Facebook Live video, I appreciate it and hope you enjoyed the time!  If not, but would like to watch the almost-but-totally-not-instant replay….here ’tis!

The card we did is the one I shared with the ladies at the retreat, which made good use of the beautiful new Country Home stamp set and Country Lane DSP. Along with the awesomely awesome new Tin Tile Dynamic TIEF.  Take a look-see:

Now, I (for one), think this would be a perfectly good card to send to a man.  So – I entered it in the Watercooler Wednesday Challenge

I started out by embossing a piece of Galvanized Metallic Paper (LOVE!) in the Tin Tile Dynamic TIEF (also LOVE) and I sponged the edges with Soft Suede ink to distress it a little.  Then I adhered it to a Cajun Craze mat for the card front.

On a piece of wood-grain Country Lane DSP, I stamped the milk can and cotton bouquet image in Soft Suede.  Then I used my Dark and Light Cajun Craze, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie and Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends to color it.

When it was all colored up I cut it out with the largest oval Stitched Shapes Framelits die.  Then I matted it on a Cajun Craze scalloped oval (this is the largest scalloped oval die in the Layering Ovals Framelits die).  I popped the matted art onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The sentiment, also from Country Home, is stamped in Cajun Craze on a strip of the wood textures Country Lane DSP.  I snipped a little banner end with my Paper Snips.

I slid a Galvanized clip onto the end of the banner and then adhered the whole thing to the oval with Liquid Glue and a Glue Dot (under the clip).

I made the cotton bolls by using small – truly truly little! – pieces of a cotton ball, rolling them up and sticking them onto the art with little dabs of Liquid Glue.  Cute, right?  Just don’t get carried away – a regular ole cotton ball is enough cotton to make about 1,345,923 cards!  Just sayin’!

I finished the card front off with a Linen Thread double loop Billie Bow and a regular bow tied with Mossy Meadow Festive Farmhouse Cotton Twine.

On the inside, I inked up the second flower image in the Country Home set with Crumb Cake ink, stamped it off on scrap paper and then stamped it into the middle of a Very Vanilla panel.  I lightly colored it with my Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry and Old Olive Watercolor Pencils.  Over the top I stamped a second sentiment in Cajun Craze.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Cajun Craze mat and into my Mossy Meadow card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got another Country Home floral spray on the front – colored with Watercolor Pencils…

…and then I added a little more Country Lane DSP to the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  Three-D cotton!  Whoda thunk it?  I think it makes the perfect finishing touch on this rustic Country Home card, made even more perfect by the Tin Tile Dynamic TIEF and some Galvanized Metallic Paper.  Hope you like!

Finn Fan Fix

Home again home again!

It was hard hard HARD leaving the cottage yesterday!  Our last day was wonderful fun – and, like leaving summer camp, we weren’t ready to leave and get back to “real life”!

I’ve got a couple more pictures to share with you!  We did more make-and-takes (including the card I shared with you today!) on Sunday (well – when we weren’t eating!).

Took a few more pictures of deer – including this shy baby…

ahh…THERE she is!

And we asked James to take a final group shot of all of us – to be sure we commemorated the occasion!

I did take a quick walk on Saturday (to appease my watch!) and took this picture just across the street from the cottage.

Nope.  Got no clue.

So – until the Second Annual Inkin’ Krew Retreat….

P.S.  Finn’ll be back tomorrow! 🙂

  1. Such a pretty card! Love the fall colors. The cotton fluff adds the perfect embellishment! 🙂

  2. I’ll be CASEing this one when I get my set. I wonder how many of your I have said I would CASE? I know I’ve carried through on a few. I need to write these things. The gray matter isn’t what it used to be! The deer is so beautiful too.

    • stampsnlingers

He was beautiful (handsome?), indeed! I hope you’ll CASE it – it’s a lot of fun! And no – our gray matter is probably not what it used to be – but in SOME areas I’d say it was BETTER than it used to be! Hope you’re having fun with the Mouse! 🙂

  3. Kate

Agree. You could send that lovely card to anyone!!!

  4. mariannebrinkley

I love your card. I don’t visit blogs very often, but I saw your post on Stampin Connection and thought I would take a look, since your card was so pretty. I miss seeing Billie post her gorgeous creations and it certainly made me smile when you said you added a Billie Bow! Thank you for sharing!

    • stampsnlingers

Thank you so much! I LOVE her signature bow! And I miss her creations, too! 🙂

      • Kathy Beaver

I’ve been wondering who the bow was named after. Who is Billie? Sounds like she has passed. sorry

      • stampsnlingers

Billie Moan – an incredibly talented artist who was a long-time SU! demo. She didn’t pass away – she simply resigned from the company. Doesn’t blog anymore (that I know of) – so we miss her talents and creativity in blog-land! 🙂

  5. What a stunning card, Mary! I love the way you’ve combined the gorgeous images from the Country Home set with what is my favourite embossing folder of the year, the Tin Tile. The colours are great and so is the addition of that twine and galvanized clip. But what really rocks this card is the 3-D cotton. Love that you’ve continued the theme inside the card as well as onto the envelope. Thanks so much for joining our Watercooler Wednesday Challenge this week.

    • stampsnlingers

Thanks much, Heidi! I love how the cotton ended up! Appreciate you stopping by to leave such a lovely comment! 🙂

  6. Kathy Beaver

I didn’t have time to catch you last night and I don’t have time this afternoon, but I had to watch the whole thing! Really loved the tutorial on the Billie bow, especially the way to not do it! I think your problem with the color lifter was that you were using a piece of DSP. True? Loved the whole card and wish I could join you guys at next year’s retreat. Sounds like a blast.

    • stampsnlingers

Hey Kathy – Thanks for watching! I think the issue with the color lifter was more that I was in too big a hurry. I needed to wait 10-15 minutes to let the ink really dry before I tried to “push” it back! 🙂
