Stampin’ Up! True Gentleman Basket Weave

Mornin’!  Hope your weekend has started off well – and that you’re planning something fun!

My card for today is a pretty large departure from my usual style.  In that it’s not got a ton of layers, and embellishments.  No froof.

I was sort of thinking…masculine card – after I saw the color scheme at this week’s Color Throwdown.  So I pulled out some True Gentleman DSP and the Truly Tailored Bundle and put it all on top of a Basket Weave Dynamic TIEF embossed card front.  Take a look-see:

The layout – which is quite clean and simple – is courtesy of the FabFriday sketch challenge this week.

And, as I mentioned, the color scheme is from the Color Throwdown challenge.

And – it also seemed to fit nicely with the Watercooler Wednesday Challenge!

WWC158 - Helen's Masculine Anything Goes Challenge

First thing I did was decide on the colors I was going to use for the challenge – I picked Sweet Sugarplum, Fresh Fig, Chocolate Chip and Very Vanilla.

I started with a Chocolate Chip panel that I embossed in the new Basket Weave Dynamic TIEF (available for free now, bundled with the Blossoming Basket stamp set, with a $100 purchase!).  Then I Fast Fuse’d it to a Sweet Sugarplum mat for the card front.

The tag is a 2″ wide piece of True Gentlemen DSP that I bannerized with my Banner Triple Punch.  I made a similar tag from a piece of Sweet Sugarplum – it’s the same width, but a smidge longer.  I adhered them together with Liquid Glue and then to the card front.  With my Chocolate Chip Stampin’ Write Marker, I added some faux stitches onto the mat.

For the sentiment, I stamped the Truly Tailored image in Fresh Fig on a piece of Very Vanilla and punched it with the Tailored Tag punch.  I also punched a Sweet Sugarplum tag.  I used my Paper Snips to cut the Very Vanilla tag down a little and then adhered it to the Sweet Sugarplum tag.  Then I popped it onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I decided it needed a little “boost”, so I stamped the image again – this time in Chocolate Chip – on Very Vanilla and quickly fussy cut the glasses.  These are popped on with two Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I adhered a True Gentleman Button to the tag with a Glue Dot, then added a double-bow of Very Vanilla Solid Baker’s Twine.  And that was it for the card front!

On the inside, I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to add a second Truly Tailored sentiment in Fresh Fig on a Very Vanilla panel.  Using the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig, I added another little image to the top and bottom of the panel in Chocolate Chip ink.

I Fast Fuse’d the panel to a Sweet Sugarplum mat and into my Fresh Fig card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got more of the little Truly Tailored image across the front in Chocolate Chip ink…

…And I added more of the houndstooth design True Gentleman DSP to the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I think I achieved my goal of a card suitable for a man – for a birthday, or Father’s Day or…any big event!  I hope so, cuz that was the goal.  The entire True Gentleman suite is so pretty – erh….handsome??  And – lookee how good it works with my new favorite workhorse – the Basket Weave Dynamic TIEF!!  Hope you like!

Finn Fan Fix

So – Katy (my little old girl kitty) woke me up about 5 on Friday.  She was walking around meoooooowwwwing insistently and refused to go back to bed.

Thinking perhaps there was a problem….is Leo down the well, Katy?!?  Show me where!….I got up.

She headed straight to the kitchen and proceeded to do the treat-twirl.

Little stinker.

Anyway – decided what the heck.  Turned on the coffee and let the Man out.

Two minutes later….WOOOFWOOFWOOOFWOOOFWOOOOOOOOOFFFFF!

I rushed out to see what had invaded us this time.

He came right back to me and hurried right into the house (apparently it was very very scary indeed).

Only later.  In the clear light of day – did I see the problem.

Those were NOT there when he went to bed the night before!! 🙂

He’s got a pretty solid “picture” in his head of what’s what and what’s where.  And if it’s different….he’s gonna be telling me all about it.

Good boy!!

  1. Mary, between your cards and your Finn/kitty adventures, you got it goin’ on! This card is wonderful and I’m so glad I have everything to case it…well I will as soon as it arrives! Thank you for sharing your flowers. We don’t have them here and I miss seeing them. That’s why I got Your Inspiring, which I haven’t inked up yet! Have a fantastic weekend. Keep those cards, stories and photos coming.

    • I LOVE that set! In fact – between your comment and the arrival of the daffodils…that one may make a star appearance soon! Thank you so much for your kind words! Have a great weekend! 🙂

  2. Rebecca L Rich

I like seeing men cards, ’cause I am short on ideas for them. Thank you. WOW on the flowers, when I took our dog out this morning, at 5:30 I just saw more snow falling. But we don’t see flowers until April or later. N.E. WA state. It was better than the past week though, it was 17* and we were starting at -9*.

    • Yea – I’d be done done done with the snow and the cold!! I’m enjoying the flowers’ arrival – hope we don’t get a big freeze that does them in! You’re welcome for the inspiration and thank you, Rebecca! 🙂

  3. Awesome card Mary! Love the embossed background, perfect addition under your tag. Great design! And Finn is quite the tough guy, glad that he kept those wild and crazy flowers from invading your house. 😉

  4. Elisha

Great card!! I love the matching stitching on the banner:-). Well, my daffodils are up about 3″ here in Ohio, nowhere near blooming though. It is still February lol! Hope to see more of Truly Tailored! Enjoy your weekend!

  5. Kate

    Great card!
Nothin’ like creepin’ daffy-down-dillies on the horizon to keep a guy on the alert. Who knows? They COULD just be the advance guard.

  6. Great card and great story! Good for a laugh. Going to Birthday party for 80 yr. old man tonight. Must finish his card (Truly Tailored). Enjoy the flowers. Mine are still in frozen ground. Ice and sleet here this morning.

  7. Cynthia Boyce

I so enjoy your beautiful cards & all your Finn updates & pics. You’re a truly talented lady.

  8. Heather Heroldt

Oh, fun! I love this set in the colors you’ve used – so fresh! The houndstooth pattern looks GREAT over the basket weave, too – mine is on its way, I can’t wait! Thanks so much for playing at Fab Friday!

  9. Beautiful card x

  10. Susan K

Always in need of good masculine card ideas so loved seeing this one. That EF adds to the appeal of it. Good Finn, but I’d be saying bad Katy, to get me up that early for a treat! Maybe she was in cahoots with Finn on the going out.

  11. Ellie Peckler

Mary, I like the colors you used and the way you popped up the eyeglasses. I also would like to see more cards with the True Gentleman Suite! – Ellie

  12. Great take on the sketch and colour challenges Mary and this card is perfect for our Watercooler Wednesday Masculine Challenge this week. I always love Purple and Black together and along with the Basketweave background and Houndstooth check it looks stunning. Thanks for sharing.

  13. What wonderful, rich colours! I would have never thought to use Sweet Sugarplum on a masculine card, but you really made it work with the Fresh Fig and Chocolate Chip. So much texture with the embossing folder and the houndstooth check. Thanks for joining us at Watercooler Wednesday.

  14. Oh Mary, what great colours to use for your masculine card! I love the combination of textures, too. The new embossing folder really has a masculine feel used with that colour and the designs on the paper. Well done! Thanks so much for joining our Watercooler Wednesday Challenge this week.
