Stampin’ Up! Hanging Garden Charming Cafe for Stamp Ink Paper #136

Happy Tuesday, y’all – and welcome to another Stamp Ink Paper challenge!

We were playing with a theme this week – called Cabin Fever.  As I thought of what to do for y’all to embody this theme – my eye fell upon the growing stack of seed catalogs that come this time of year!  And I knew – vegetables!  This is the time of year when it’s still too cold to start those gardens – but we want to – so badly!! I don’t have a set filled with tomato, pepper and squash plants – so, I pulled out a couple of pretty stamp sets that embody the beauty of flowers (and the butterflies that flock to them!) in Spring – Hanging Garden and the Charming Cafe bundle. Take a look-see:

As I mentioned, the Stamp Ink Paper Challenge #136 this week is all about Cabin Fever.  What makes you itch to get outside before Winter is even over?  Come and play along, won’t you?!  The winners this month will be in the running to be a Guest Designer on our challenge! 🙂

I also borrowed the sketch from the MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge.

Not sure if you can tell – but there’s kind of a little hidden secret on this card.  Check it out…

Yes – it’s a peekaboo window card!  Not to worry – I’ll show you pictures so you can see how to make the window!

I started with a panel of Whisper White card stock.  The first time around, I stamped the pretty floral frame from the Charming Cafe stamp set in Early Espresso and cut it with the matching die in the Cafe Builder Framelits.  And it really didn’t work – I simply didn’t get the framelit lined up right.  See?

So…I went the other way.  I cut the framelit out of a new piece of Whisper White…

…and then used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to stamp the Charming Cafe frame around the opening.

Muuuuch better….

I used my first – failed! – attempt as a template to cut the rest of the layers.  I lined it up on a Lemon Lime Twist mat and used a sticky note to keep everything in place…

…and then lined the mat up on my Tranquil Tide card base and repeated the cut.

Boom!  Easy peasy. 🙂

I colored the Charming Cafe florals with my Lemon Lime Twist, Tranquil Tide and Powder Pink Stampin’ Write Markers.  Then I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to add a sentiment from the Hanging Garden stamp set in Lemon Lime Twist.  Finally – I added some butterflies – also from Hanging Garden – around the flowers.  I colored them with my Fresh Fig, Berry Burst and Basic Black (for the bodies) Stampin’ Write Markers.

I matted the front panel on the Lemon Lime Twist mat using Liquid Glue then adhered some Powder Pink 3/8″ Shimmer Ribbon around the panel, securing it in the back with Fast Fuse.

On the inside, I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to stamp a Hanging Garden basket in Early Espresso in the middle of the front window opening.  I also added some Hanging Garden butterflies in Early Espresso.  Then I colored the basket and butterflies in Tranquil Tide, Powder Pink, Lemon Lime Twist, Berry Burst, Fresh Fig, Crumb Cake and Basic Black with my Stampin’ Write Markers.  Hint:  I free-handed the Berry Burst bow at the top of the basket string!

I Fast Fuse’d the panel to a Lemon Lime Twist mat and into the Tranquil Tide card base, popped the card front on with (a lot!!) of Stampin’ Dimensionals (be sure to get them around the window opening to support the card front!) and the card was done.

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got another Hanging Garden basket on the front…

…and I added a whole flutter of butterflies on the envelope flap!

Et Voila!  As the multitude of seed catalogs sit and taunt me and make me anxious to plant something!! – at least I can make a Hanging Garden and a beautiful Charming Cafe flower-strewn frame from paper and ink!  And – so can you to ease your cabin fever!  Hope you like!

Finn Fan Fix

Today was pretty gorgeous here in GA – clear as a bell, even if there was a chill in the air!

I couldn’t open the windows – brrr – or start planting tomatoes (duh!) – but I could take a brisk walk (and make my watch happy!) with my sweet friend up to the mailbox to get…

It’s been a long time since I had a dog that wanted to go places with me.  He walks by me when I ask or when he’s “just checking in” – and then ranges ahead or behind sniffing the sniffs.  But he always always comes back to be with me – either when I call or just cuz that’s where he wants to be.

Apparently I hang the moon and the stars and am his greatest love.

Or….there’s always the chance he’s sure I have a cookie in my pocket! 🙂

Regardless of why – I’m sure happy he thinks so highly of me!

  2. Pat Christ

This card is beautiful! I see the Charming Cafe bundle and Hanging Garden set in my future. 🙂
Sweet Finn…I’m always happy to see his smiling face.

  3. Kate

    Very nice card!
    Very nice brisk walk companion!

  4. Susan K

Love the cut and opening. Thanks for the tips and pictures on cutting it. Can’t wait to see your finished card with the new TIEF. Finn makes a good companion for walking, even if not for watching football! (Does your mailman leaves things on the ground too?)

    • You’re welcome, Susan! Hope you can make a card with the directions I provided. And – soon. Soon on the new TIEF. Yes – both UPS and USPS will leave boxes inside our gate on the ground. Usually they put it in a plastic bag if it’s raining, at least! 🙂

  5. This card is so beautiful. I am inspired to try something like it.
