Stampin’ Up! Build It Nail It Father’s Day Card

Hey, y’all, happy weekend!  I got a travel reprieve – my trip’s moved to next week!  Of course, it also extended a day, so…the good with the not-so-bueno, I guess!

Now, my card for today is a Father’s Day card.  Yes, I’m aware that Father’s Day isn’t for another few months, but 18 June will be here before you know it!

You know what will not be here then?  The Occasions catalog – which means that the Nailed It stamp set and matching Build It Frameltis – well.  They might not be here either!  So…I wanted to give you an idea for a fun Father’s Day card using these two manly products and some Urban Underground DSP while you’ve still got time to get them.  Take a look-see:

My layout is from this week’s Sunday Stamps sketch challenge.

I started with my fave piece of paper from the Urban Underground DSP and stamped the little screw and smiley face images from Nailed It all over with Whisper White Craft Ink.  Then I SNAILd it on a Delightful Dijon mat.  I used a silver-embossed piece, also matted on Delightful Dijon, across the panel.

The sentiment is on a triple oval – the base mat is Delightful Dijon, cut with a scalloped die in the Ovals Layering Framelits.  Next is a Very Vanilla oval, followed by a third oval in Delightful Dijon. That one was cut with the Stitched Shapes Framelits.

I stamped the Nailed It sentiment in Basic Black Archival Ink on a piece of Delightful Dijon card stock, and cut it with the little die in the Build It Framelits.  It’s a cool one – cuz it also embosses a little edged frame as it cuts!

About this time, I pulled out my Hardwood stamp, inked it with Early Espresso ink, and stamped a piece of Delightful Dijon card stock.  The first thing I cut from it was a second little frame, which I adhered to my oval-stack with Liquid Glue.  I popped the sentiment frame over the top of that – offset slightly – with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Then I popped the whole sentiment oval onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Then I built some tools!  I cut a hammer and a screwdriver from the Hardwood-stamped card stock.  Using the same dies, I cut a hammer head and a screwdriver head from a piece of Silver Foil.  I adhered my silver tool-heads to their respective tools with Liquid Glue.  Then I used my Stylus on the back of each tool to create some depth.  And I gently rubbed some details into the fronts, too!

I wrapped a little piece of Basic Black Solid Baker’s Twine around the tool handles (used a Glue Dot on the back to hold it in place), then I popped it onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I added a few Urban Underground Embellishments and a little screw that I’d cut with the die in the Build It Framelits from a piece of Silver Foil.  And that was it for the card front.

On the inside, I stamped the second sentiment from Nailed It on a Very Vanilla panel – I used the marker-to-rubber technique and colored the stamp directly with the Basic Black and Delightful Dijon markers.  Then I added the hammer I’d already put together.  I’d made it – I was going to use it, by golly!  And who said you can’t put dimensional things on the inside of a card?  I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to help my hammer look more real!  I also stamped some Basic Black Archival Ink screws, too!

I SNAIL the panel to a Delightful Dijon mat and into my Basic Black card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done!

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got a few more Nailed It screws on the front, as well as some Delightful Dijon smiley faces…

…and I added some more of the Urban Underground DSP – that I stamped in Whisper White Craft Ink with screws and smiles – on the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I think this one turned out to be pretty fun, don’t you!?  Don’t miss out on getting this set and having all the tools (see what I did there?!) on hand when it comes time to make your Father’s Day cards in a few more months!  Hope you like!

FINN-FAN FIX….

As a horse owner, there are a few directives from the veterinarian that we dread hearing….

“Give him 20 of these pills twice a day for 10 days”.  This one is a booger, unless you have a Haflinger who’ll eat the pills straight out of her bucket.

“You’ll need to soak this foot for 30 minutes 3 times a day for two weeks”.  Oh my – the back….the aching back!  Not to mention the three or four clothes changes resulting from the bucket of hot water being tossed about by an uncooperative horse!

And…”He’s on stall rest for a week.  You can hand walk him for 15 minutes a few times a day, but that’s it”.

That last one – yikes.  Horses move.  They need to move.  When they don’t move – they get….whack!!  Quick.

And so do 8 1/2″ month Australian Shepherds.  So, when the vet said to “keep him from running around and jumping as best you can for a few days” to let his sprained toe heal…my heart kind of sank. 🙁

So, on Friday morning, I kept him on the leash for his whole “run” – more like a quiet trot.  He didn’t like it.

finn-holding-up-his-hurt-foot
“Please, Mom.  Pleeeeaaaaasssseeee!!!!!  I know I’m holding my hurt foot up cuz of how it hurts, but pleaaaaaaaaaasee  let me off this leash!  I need to run-gallop-leap-bound-cavort-gallop-and-jump!  But I won’t if you don’t want me to – I prooooooomise!!  I’ll just walk right by you if you’ll just…let…me…off…the….leash…..!”

I didn’t succumb!  Cuz I think he was lying.  I was strong.  But….it’s going to be a long few days!

  1. I love this card Mary! The stamping on the background is fantastic and your layering under your sentiment is perfect too. Great design! Thanks for joining us at Sunday Stamps, hope to see you again soon! And bummer on Finn…hope that everyone is on the mend soon (and that you all don’t go crazy while waiting!)! 🙂

  2. Barbara Riefner

I love your Finn stories. I look forward to them with every post. He is a cutie!

  3. I like that you put our FFF at the bottom of your post..it keeps me in suspense! With all that you have to do with your furry children, it amazes me that you have time to create and make such a wonderful card. I get tuckered out just reading about how you do it 🙂

Another one out of the park! I liked this set as soon as I saw it. Waiting for it to come next week. Your design is great. Don’t know that I would have thought of mixing the screws and smiley faces, but I really like that design. Masterful! I don’t know that I should call a “manly” card cute, but it really is a VERY nice card for a guy. And I LOVE the embellishments.
Poor Finn. He will be begging to be let off that leash every time, so you will have to stay STRONG. So easy for us to give in to them, and so BAD for them!

    • Ha. Yes, I don’t know what made me think of the screws and smiles combo, it I seems to work! Thanks much – can’t wait to see what you make with this set when you get it, Julie!! 😊

  5. Elisha

What a great card! I especially like the wood handles – brilliant!! Poor Finn! I’m guessing he won’t let you hold an ice pack on it? Just thinkin that might speed things along so he can speed along lol!

    • I’d probably have to duct tape his mouth shut to ice his foot!! He’s just going to have to take it slow. Thanks much, Elisha!

  6. Patricia

Mary, you really “Nailed it” with this card! It is awesome! Love all of the details. So sorry about Finn’s toe, hope it heals fast. I too look forward to Finn’s adventures, thanks for all the pic’s & posts!

  7. Super and fantastic came to mind when I first saw your card. Oh my, your details are absolutely spot on! Wonderful creation!!

  8. Mom

Wish I could send your fine card to my Daddy!
Maybe a trip during keep-on-leash week wouldn’t have been so bad after all???

  9. Kay V.

This card is amazing.! absolutely love the hammer and screwdriver with the “wood” handles.

  10. Kathy L

That’s the best card I’ve seen using the hammer and screws set! Your background is SO clever. I’m one of the “older ones” who definitely remembers wood-handled screwdrivers and hammers and I love that touch. Your daily Finn stories are funny and bring back so many memories of dogs we’ve had

  11. Wow! Where should I begin?? Love your background, love your “tool kit” and the screw driver..and the stitching, and the embellishments everything looks just perfect. Thanks for joining the challenge this week at Sunday Stamps!

  12. Fabulous Fathers Day card!

Thanks for playing along with us at Sunday Stamps!
