Stampin’ Up! Happy Father’s Day – Love, Swirly Bird!

Happy Father’s Day to all the father’s out there in blog-land.  Thank you for everything you do! 🙂

Today’s card is special-made for a friend of mine – he’s the father of the twins I talk about every once in a while in my posts.  And he’s a good man.  Who loves the ocean and sailing.  So…I tapped Swirly Bird and the coordinating Swirly Scribbles to make a nautical, sailing themed card.  The fun Labeler Alphabet set lent a hand, too.  Take a look-see:

Swirly Bird Father's Day 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I started with a piece of my fave Canson 90lb Cold-Pressed Watercolor paper and my Aqua Painter to make a quick sky and sea background.  Using Pacific Point ink, which I picked up from the ink pad lid with the Aqua Painter, I made a wash – darker at the top and getting a little lighter until I got down to where the “ocean” started.  Then I darkened it up again.  To the ocean, I also swept in some Bermuda Bay ink.  Then I hit it with my Heat Tool to quickly dry it.

Swirly Bird Father's Day 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I cut three of the long Swirly Scribbles die cuts – one each from Mint Macaron, Pacific Point and Bermuda Bay card stocks.  I cut the pieces apart a bit and then re-arranged them over the ocean, adhering them with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.  Then I trimmed the excess from each side.

The sail boat comes from the Swirly Bird stamp set.  I stamped the boat in Watermelon Wonder ink on a piece of Whisper White, and outlined it with my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker.  Then I stamped the “sail” in Emerald Envy and outlined it with the Emerald Envy Stampin’ Write Marker.  I fussy cut both of them and popped them onto the waves with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Swirly Bird Father's Day 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I made the “sun” by cutting a couple of small swirly-do’s – one in So Saffron and one in Peekaboo Peach and a third, large swirl in So Saffron.  Those are also adhered with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue and the excess trimmed with Paper Snips.  Just to complete the nautical theme – I made ‘birds” with my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker.  Very professional birds, if I do say so myself!! 😉

For the sentiment, I tapped one of my new favoritest things – the Labeler Alphabet stamp set.  I stamped out my words in Pacific Point ink.  I played around with snipping each letter out individually, but I didn’t like how that looked on the card.  I finally settled on what you see – and I actually think it ties very well with the edges of the watercolor background.  I popped each word up with some Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Swirly Bird Father's Day 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I double matted the panel on Pacific Point and then Mint Macaron.  The final touch was to add some silver sequins that I pulled off the Silver Sequin Trim – they’re quite flat and I thought they looked kind of fish scale-y.  I stuck them on with some Liquid Glue and the card front was done!  Not really sure what they represent – but I wanted some kind of a little bling, without getting all girly!  Apparently there’s a pretty big fish out there, strewing scales left and right! 😉

For the inside, I pulled a piece of Very Vanilla Card Stock into play and added a strip of coincidently-coordinating paper from the new By The Shore DSP.  I matted that strip on Pacific Point and SNAILd it to the Very Vanilla panel.  Then I double matted the whole thing – again on Pacific Point and Mint Macaron.

Swirly Bird Father's Day 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I SNAILd that into a So Saffron card base, popped the card front on with Dimensionals, and the card was done! 🙂

Swirly Bird Father's Day 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers

On the front of a Very Vanilla Medium Envelope, I recreated my sailboat scene – stamping the boat in Watermelon Wonder and the sail in Emerald Envy.  I used my Bermuda Bay, Pacific Point and Mint Macaron Stampin’ Write Markers to add some “water” and the Basic Black marker to add a few birds…

Swirly Bird Father's Day 6 - Stamps-N-Lingers

…then I made a custom envelope flap with more of the same By The Shore DSP that I’d used inside the card.

Swirly Bird Father's Day 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Et Voila!  I just love how totally versatile the Swirly Bird stamps and the coordinating Swirly Scribbles Thinlits are.  I haven’t made kites yet – but I will!  I sure do hope that you’re busily adding this bundle to your tool box!
