Stampin’ Up! Birthday Blooms & Floral Boutique Make a Fun Fold Card

Well – it’s happened again.  Monday!  I hope that you all had a great weekend and are ready and refreshed for the week to come.  If not – take heart, there’s only 4 days left.  This one doesn’t count.  It’s already started – you’re up – hopefully you’ve had your coffee – you may even already be at work.  So…it’s practically over!

Before I get to my card – which is one we made yesterday at Amy’s quarterly meeting – I thought you guys might like to see our latest new addition to the menagerie.  You might remember that we were adopted by a goose.  His name is Duck Duck.  Goose.  Yesterday, when we were taking him his evening crack (-ed corn) and the trimmed ends of a mess of green beans, I took his picture.  A few, actually.  He’s gotten pretty bold – he motors right up to the bank of the pond while we’re still there.  Here he is.

He’s quite handsome, yes?  And a little mouthy.  He’s got some definite ideas about dinner time and he’s not at all adverse to sharing them.  That second picture – looks pretty imperious, doesn’t he?

So.  The card.  This one was shared by Sue Prather.  She’s awfully talented – and this card shows it!  It’s a fun fold card, using the new Floral Boutique DSP and a pretty sentiment from the Birthday Blooms stamp set.  Take a look-see:

Floral Boutique Birthday Blooms 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers

To make this card, we started with a 4 1/4″ x 11″ piece of Pink Pirouette card stock, that’s scored and folded at 2 1/4″ and 6 1/2″ on the long side.  We used a retired punch for the circle, but I’m going to tell you how to do it with the oh-so-cool new Layering Circles Framelits.  Using a 2 5/8″ straight-sided circle Framelit, cut a hole in the card base, lining up the center of the framelit with the 2 1/4″ score line – and cheating it towards the side, as you can see in the picture.  While you’ve got that Framelit out, cut another circle of Pink Pirouette card stock.

Floral Boutique Birthday Blooms 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers.jpg

You can use a 2 3/8″ straight side Circle die to cut a Night of Navy circle and the 2 1/8″ die to cut a Whisper White circle for the sentiment.  Then we stamped the sentiment from Birthday Blooms in Night of Navy and SNAILd the three circles together.

For the smaller panel, we adhered the full piece of the DSP to the card stock and then punched the excess out (where it laid over our circle opening) – you can just run the whole panel back thru the Big Shot, with the 2 5/8″ straight-edged Circle Framelit back in place.

We used a 4″ square piece of the new Floral Boutique DSP for the large part of the card front.  We SNAILd it to the center, and then added the matted sentiment circle.  To do that, we closed the card – folding the smaller “upper panel” over the large DSP’d lower panel, applied some Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue onto the DSP’d center panel – inside the half-moon cut out.  Then we laid the circle over the glue – which attached it to the center panel.  Did that make sense?  I’ll do a step-by-step Tutorial soon, and then it’ll be a lot easier to see with pictures, okay? 😉

We embellished the card with a strip of Pink Pirouette card stock overlaid with a length of Floral Boutique Designer Washi Tape.  Then we added some Whisper White flowers cut with the Botanical Builder Framelits – lightly sponged with some Pink Pirouette ink – and some Mint Macaron leaves – also cut with Botanical Builder dies.  Everything is adhered with Liquid Glue.  On the small little flower on the sentiment circle, we stamped the tiny little “center” – from Botanical Blooms stamp set – in Night of Navy.

The final touch for the flowers was a couple of Rhinestone Basic Jewels.  And we added a sweet little triple bow tied with new Blushing Bride Solid Baker’s Twine.

We added a square of Whisper White to the inside of the card – after wrapping it with a length of Floral Boutique Designer Washi Tape and the card was done!  Easy peasy!  And looks like it took hours, yes? Hope that you like it!

  1. Love this card! Sue created such a fantastic project for us. So glad that we could all get together and stamp! 🙂

  2. Yes, she did!! We had such a good time yesterday – thanks for having us!! 🙂

  3. Mom

Beautiful card, Mary. Looks like pretty pink dogwood. And another engineering coup.

Duck Duck. Goose. Imperious indeed! Quite the handsome dude.

  4. Yes, Duck Duck is definitely coming into his own! Can’t take the credit for the engineering – I just followed Sue’s directions!!! But – thanks, Mom! 🙂

  5. Sherry Timko

Mary, I just love that you have Duck Duck Goose, I didn’t know about him. It’s so nice to see a real goose vs a Canadian Geese. Can’t stand them! I loved your card tutorial yesterday at Amy’s. I’m looking forward to making some of them! Yeah! I’m now on you blog! I enjoy your humor very much! Have a happy day! Sherry

    • Oh – I love the Canadian’s when they drop by. But they never stay long. Duck Duck is quite a pip, there’s no doubt!! I’l enjoying his company! Glad that you found the blog and that you had a good time yesterday. I did, too – it’s always good to see everyone and spend some time with my friends! Thanks, Sherry! 🙂

  6. Your adopted goose is beautiful. Love his name! So glad you posted the directions to the card-I could not remember all of the steps! Fun times yesterday and great cards. Yours looks beautiful 🙂

  7. Thanks, Jari!! And yes, it was a really fun day! 🙂

  8. Barb S.

Aware the “score” measurements correct? I tried making this from the measurements for scoring and the bottom flap over shoots where the “short” score fold is? Score at 2 1/4″ x 6 1/2″???? I love the card and wanted to use if with a group of ladies from church.

  9. Barb S.

“Are” the Measurements……auto correct changed my word.

    • I figured you’d been autocorrected! Let me search out that card and re-measure. I’ll send an e-mail to you directly (and then update the measurements on the website)! Thanks, Barb – and so sorry for the confusion! 🙁

      • Hey Barb – went back and re-looked. The score marks are correct (2 1/4” and 6 1/2”). The error is in the size of the CS to start with. If you use 4 1/4” x 10 3/4” – that ought to get it. I made a typo when I was entering the measurements.

If you do these measurements, you’ll end up with one 2 1/4” section and two 4 1/4” sections for the card.

So sorry for the confusion! 🙂

  10. Jackie Baker

I just came across your Birthday Blooms and Floral Boutique fun fold card and wonder if you have posted a tutorial for it. I can’t figure it out from the instructions – my deficiency, not yours! The card is wonderful.

    • stampsnlingers

Hey Jackie – thank you! You know, I totally spaced out on a tutorial for that card! 🙁 I’m so sorry. I haven’t done one like that in a minute, either. I’ll tell you what – I’ll try to do a card like that in the near future – and do a video on it. Not sure how quick I can get to it – but…would that help?? 🙂

  11. What size envelope does this fit in?

    • stampsnlingers

Hey Suzy – boy, this one is from the way-back machine, for sure! Based on the measurements, I suspect it fits in a regular Medium (A2) envelope. The base card is 4 1/4″ x 4 1/4″ – plus the half-circle above it. Without re-making it, I feel pretty confident that it’ll work in the regular-sized envelope! 🙂 Thanks!
