So – for my part of the Happy Stampers Blog Hop this month, I did a super fun DOUBLE Gate Fold Card! What?!? DOUBLE GATE?!? Yep. That’s what I said. DOUBLE. GATE. (not to be confused with WATER. GATE.) Technically, it’s a Double Fold Gate Card but that wouldn’t have worked with my Watergate joke, so…..
I saw a tutorial on line for doing this kind of card, so I took the basic steps and made it work for what I wanted today!
I used some Hearth & Home Thinlits….a little bit of Home for Christmas DSP…..threw in a great sentiment from Versatile Christmas….and….well, take a look-see:
Now, this is my first go at this kind of double fold card, so I was feeling my way thru making it. I found several tutorials on-line and that’s how I learned to make the basic card. I started with a basic double fold gate card, made with a piece of Home for Christmas DSP, cut to 5 1/2″ x 12″, and scored and folded as shown in the Tutorial. I didn’t use the extra triangles that I cut in the making of the card. Didn’t need ’em! I wanted my window scene to take center stage – and I love the snowfall design of the DSP, so I didn’t want to cover it up!
I cut the window with the Hearth & Home Thinlit from a piece of Very Vanilla Card Stock, and then I ran the window back thru the Big Shot in my Woodgrain TIEF.
The scene behind the window uses two stamps in the Cozy Christmas stamp set, both stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. Then I built the sky around the two images, first sponging with Pool Party ink from the top of the art piece to the top of the “snow” around the cabin. Then I added some Night of Navy at the top, blending it down only part way to the cabin. Finally, I used the snow stamp from the Happy Scenes stamp set, and made some snow flurries with Whisper White Craft Ink. At that point, I set the scene aside to dry a bit (the Craft ink takes a minute!). I took the opportunity to lightly sponge my window with my almost-dry Pool Party Sponge Dauber, just to add a little color and tie it into the surrounding paper.
The inside liner is a piece of Very Vanilla Card Stock, with one of the awesome sentiments from the Versatile Christmas set stamped in Pool Party. I first fussy cut Santa from a piece of the Home for Christmas DSP, and positioned him on the liner. I wanted him to be peeking out when the card was closed…..
….so he drove the layout of the inner liner. Once I knew where he needed to be, I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to position and stamp the sentiment in Pool Party. Then I stamped a whole bunch of snowflakes from the Woodland stamp set in Pool Party all around the sentiment. I stuck Santa down with some Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.
The tree is from Peaceful Pines, stamped in Mossy Meadow, with a garland of Real Red (this is a two-step photopolymer stamp set, so it’s easy to get everything lined up!). The star topper is just a little star sequin from the Metallic Sequin Assortment, adhered with a dab of Liquid Glue. Finally, I adhered the liner to a mat of Real Red, and then adhered it to the inside of the card with SNAIL. I spent a little time debating whether to decorate the wings….and finally decided (obviously!) that they were just fine as they are! Back to the outside of the card….
With everything dry out front, I adhered the window to the snowy art scene with a line of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue. Then, using Stampin’ Dimensionals, I stuck the window to the flap of the card – making sure that I didn’t have any adhesive hanging over in the back. Cause that would have locked that window up! 🙂
After I’d gotten the window in place, I used some more of the glue to adhere a piece of DSP to the back of the window that is visible when the gate is open. Once the glue was dry, I used my snips to trim the excess off. I like the cleaner look this touch gave to my open card!
The front sentiment is also from Versatile Christmas, and is stamped in Real Red on a piece of the Home for Christmas DSP. I used my Hexagon Punch to make a banner end on the right side. I matted it to a piece of Read Red card stock, similarly punched. The left side is just a straight cut. I embellished it with one of the Home for Christmas Enamel Dots and then adhered it to the window with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.
The final touch on the window is a tiny bow made from the new Real Red 1/8″ Striped Ribbon. It’s just adhered with a little dab o’ Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.
And that was that! I added a liner to my Very Vanilla Medium Envelope…..
….with my Envelope Liner Thinlit. Et Voila! A Double Fold Gate Card worthy of any Christmas greeting! What do you think?
I hope that you like it – I was pretty happy with how the whole thing turned out. I just love this DSP – it’s old fashioned and contemporary all at the same time! And the little Santa’s are just too freakin’ cute – they remind me of Christmas as a little girl! 🙂
