Bohemian Hello

So – Wikipedia (the current source of all wisdom and knowledge for young and not-so-young-ish tech savvy folk) says that “Bohemian”, in addition to referring to someone from the former Kingdom of Bohemia, may also denote “a socially unconventional person, especially one who is involved in the arts.”  I’m pretty confident that no one ever has, and likely never WILL, refer to me as “socially unconventional”.  E-V-E-R!!  I also don’t wear a lot of extra jewelry, have long curly dark hair, or wear big swirly skirts (Wiki also says the word is derived from the French word for gypsies…and that’s the head-picture I get – no doubt from the movies and not at all accurate!).  In fact – for me, and please don’t hate me if you are unconventional or wear big swirly skirts! – the word has a bit of a negative connotation for me.  Don’t know why, but it does.  Sorry.  So – when I was browsing the new catalog online a few weeks ago, I almost passed by the Bohemian Borders set with barely a glance – just cause of its name! Here’s what this two-step set looks like – pretty unassuming, really…..

But then I saw the sample that SU! had so kindly provided:

This card just struck me – and I knew I had to have the set and make this card!  How lucky for me that 1) I’m an SU! demonstrator and so I got to get some new product WAY early and 2) this set was on the sneak peak product list!  I immediately added it to my order.  And last night, I set about making my kinda-CASE card.  Take a look-see:

This card starts with a piece of Delightful Dijon card stock, that I embossed with the new Boho Chic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and then SNAIL’d to my Rich Razzleberry card base.  I made the banner from a strip of Bohemian Designer Series Paper that I punched with the new Triple Banner Punch (boy, is that thing cool – and handy!).  I SNAIL’d the banner to the embossed mat, and moved on to the sentiment.

Now, the wonderful new wooden Expressions Natural Elements embellishments, used in the catalog sample, aren’t available quite yet.  So, I pulled out my Layered Letters Alphabet stamps and prepared to “go my own way” – hey, maybe I AM a little bit socially unconventional! 😉  And, oh yea, I also don’t have the Bohemian Designer Washi tape, so I pulled out ANOTHER of my new sets, the Build a Birthday set.  Those “cake” stamps look a lot like washi tape to me!

I stamped the first “piece of cake/washi” in Delightful Dijon and then offset the smaller dotted “tape” in Rich Razzleberry.  Then, in Tuxedo Black Memento ink, I stamped my sentiment.  Gotta love those photopolymers – I was able to re-stamp the letters as needed to get the depth of color I wanted.  With the sentiment complete, I stamped the Bohemian….shapes?  Icons? Designs?…in a pattern that made me happy.  The colors are Delightful Dijon, Rich Razzleberry and Bermuda Bay (which I colored with my Stampin’ Write Marker from my big, beautiful Many Marvelous Markers box!).  I adhered the panel to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

For the little clothes-pin….I confess, I used a non-SU! clip.  It was bright yellow – so I stuck it in the Delightful Dijon ink pad, all over, until it darkened it up.  Looks pretty good, really!  I slipped a length of Bermuda Bay Baker’s Twine thru the pin, tied a little bow and then glued it in place with the tiniest dab of Liquid Multi-purpose Glue.  Then I stuck the pin onto the top of the sentiment mat.  And the front was done!

For the inside, I just stamped a few of the border lines in Delightful Dijon and Rich Razzleberry onto another piece of Whisper White Card Stock.

Then I colored a little with my Bermuda Bay marker – and the card was done!!

I also decorated my Medium Whisper White Envelope with some more Bohemian-ism.

I couldn’t find even one spot where a Rhinestone or a Pearl would be needed, so…..done!

I’m loving this set – and I completely LOVE the Layered Letters.  This is a casual font, that I can see a lot of use for, in a really good size for almost any card!
