Stampin’ Up! Layered Letters Alphabet Happy New Year Card

sparkling_2016

Well, good morning to you all on this very first Stamps-N-Lingers Blog Post for 2016! 🙂  I hope that you all had a great New Years Eve – and didn’t need too much hair of the dog this morning!  We did our usual – woke up (blearily) for a few minutes when we heard fireworks outside.  And went right back to sleep.  Yes, it’s true.  We are dyed-in-the-wool party animals! 😉

I made y’all a fun Happy New Year card today – but, when you see it, you’ll know that it could be a card for a lot of “Happy” occasions!  I used an old favorite – one I haven’t pulled out in a while – the Layered Letters Alphabet stamp set.  I also picked an image from the soon-to-be-retired Six Sayings Hostess set from the 2015 Holiday Catalog.  And I also took advantage of the Confetti TIEF – available in just 4 days in the Occasions Catalog!  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! World of Thanks and Watercolor Words

Monday Monday.  Welcome to the start of another work week.  I’m trying to come up with something witty and clever to say about work.  And Monday.  But, I got nuthin’.  Well, nuthin’ clever that is.  Or witty.  But, I do have a factoid for you about Monday.  Did you know (I got this from a Huffington Post article conducted in 2013), that 78% of people in a poll by Monster.com said they get the “Sunday evening blues” as they come to terms with the idea of Monday happening?  It might even be a bigger number now.  And, it even said that people who LIKE their jobs get the blues on Sunday afternoon.  Huh.  So – what to do?  Some say do the not-fun stuff (clean the house, grocery shop, etc) on Saturday and then do a FUN thing on Sunday.  Huffington suggests writing down on paper how you’re feeling and why…… really?!?   Any of you get the Sunday evening blues and wish Monday would just not roll around?  How do YOU beat it?

But, one fun thing about this Monday is a new card to share!  I combined a couple of different stamp sets for this one, tapping the background stamp called World of Thanks, Watercolor Words and Layered Letters Alphabet, to come up with this clean and simple card.  Take a look-see:

Butterflies and posies….

Since I took the step and signed up to be a Demonstrator at the end of last year, I’ve discovered a here-to-fore un-realized need for cards.  Lots of cards.  I NEED a stash of cards ready to go at a moments notice.  Never realized it before – maybe because HAVING a card to send meant going to the store, browsing thru stacks and piles and racks of cookie-cutter cards, hoping that the NEXT one would be the one I wanted.  I always – ALWAYS – came up with some reason that I didn’t want or need to do that.  Now that I have the tools at hand to make my very own, one of a kind (or one of a CASE! 🙂 ) card, that can say and convey almost anything I want it to say….well, now I find that I NEED to have the right card.  Perhaps it’s the Murphy’s Law of Card Making.  If you have stash, you will create with it.  Or something like that….

So, when it came time to send catalogs out, I needed a card to include.  I decided to make a set that would work for that, plus a couple of Thank You cards.  Take a look-see:

Butterfly Set Group 1 watermarked

All the cards started with Blackberry Bliss Card Stock as the mat.  I had two color schemes – Blackberry Bliss and Smoky Slate and Blackberry Bliss and Sahara Sand.  Frankly, I have a hard time picking my fave – so I just did both!  If these look familiar, then – thank you for reading my posts! 🙂  The 4th card turned into the Wetlands Get Well Card that I posted last week.  I SNAILd the BB mats to their respective card bases, and then SNAILd my strip of Neutrals Color Collection DSP to the mats.

I cut out several of the Medium sized butterflies from the Butterflies Thinlits (happily carried over into the new Annual Catalog) out of Bermuda Bay card stock.  So, when I cut them, using the ever-necessary waxed paper to help get the die cuts out of the die – I realized that the waxed paper butterfly was as pretty as the card stock butterfly – so I carefully set it aside.  You’ll see in a sec where it ended up.  I also stamped and die cut the smaller butterfly – in Blackberry Bliss on vellum card stock.  Then I glued the pieces together, using Liquid Multi-Purpose Glue.

Butterfly Set Thanks and Butterfly Close-up watermarked

Do you see it?  The waxed paper butterfly?  It just seemed to lend a more delicate look to the card stock.  And, it just seemed so THRIFTY!! 🙂  I finished each butterfly with a button (either Rich Razzleberry or Bermuda Bay – depending on which card you’re looking at) and bow from Bermuda Bay Baker’s Twine.  And then I set them all aside to await my further commands.

For the sentiment – I used the Layered Letters Alphabet stamps.  First, I used my sponge daubers on the rectangular background stamp – Blackberry Bliss on the top and bottom, with either Sahara Sand or Smoky Slate in the centers.  I stamped enough of each of those for my sentiments onto some plain Whisper White Card Stock.  Then I stamped the letters in Tuxedo Black.  A few minutes with my snips yielded several stacks of letters – I am REALLY good at fussy-cutting basic rectangles! 😉  Then I adhered the letters with Stampin’ Dimensionals to the card fronts.  Finally, I ever-so-artfully placed my waxy-winged flutter-bys on the cards and….done!

Butterfly set 2 only 1 watermarked

For the inside, I just left the card base on its own, and added a little butterfly.  He was made using the Elegant Butterfly punch in Blackberry Bliss and a Bitty Butterfly from a little of the leftover Neutrals DSP.  A few Pearls finished them off.

Butterfly Set Inside 1 watermarked

Love how these turned out!  Lots of space to write a note – easy to customize the sentiment on the front.  And the color combos – well….they’ll alway be on my go-to list!  Hope you like them, too.

The New Catalog Shares are filling up – take a gander at what you get, down below, and let me know if you want in!  Last day to sign up is 17 Jun.

Bohemian Hello

So – Wikipedia (the current source of all wisdom and knowledge for young and not-so-young-ish tech savvy folk) says that “Bohemian”, in addition to referring to someone from the former Kingdom of Bohemia, may also denote “a socially unconventional person, especially one who is involved in the arts.”  I’m pretty confident that no one ever has, and likely never WILL, refer to me as “socially unconventional”.  E-V-E-R!!  I also don’t wear a lot of extra jewelry, have long curly dark hair, or wear big swirly skirts (Wiki also says the word is derived from the French word for gypsies…and that’s the head-picture I get – no doubt from the movies and not at all accurate!).  In fact – for me, and please don’t hate me if you are unconventional or wear big swirly skirts! – the word has a bit of a negative connotation for me.  Don’t know why, but it does.  Sorry.  So – when I was browsing the new catalog online a few weeks ago, I almost passed by the Bohemian Borders set with barely a glance – just cause of its name! Here’s what this two-step set looks like – pretty unassuming, really…..

Bohemian Borders stamp set

But then I saw the sample that SU! had so kindly provided:

Bohemian Borders Catty example watermarked

This card just struck me – and I knew I had to have the set and make this card!  How lucky for me that 1) I’m an SU! demonstrator and so I got to get some new product WAY early and 2) this set was on the sneak peak product list!  I immediately added it to my order.  And last night, I set about making my kinda-CASE card.  Take a look-see:

Bohemian Hello Outside 1 watermarked

This card starts with a piece of Delightful Dijon card stock, that I embossed with the new Boho Chic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and then SNAIL’d to my Rich Razzleberry card base.  I made the banner from a strip of Bohemian Designer Series Paper that I punched with the new Triple Banner Punch (boy, is that thing cool – and handy!).  I SNAIL’d the banner to the embossed mat, and moved on to the sentiment.

Now, the wonderful new wooden Expressions Natural Elements embellishments, used in the catalog sample, aren’t available quite yet.  So, I pulled out my Layered Letters Alphabet stamps and prepared to “go my own way” – hey, maybe I AM a little bit socially unconventional! 😉  And, oh yea, I also don’t have the Bohemian Designer Washi tape, so I pulled out ANOTHER of my new sets, the Build a Birthday set.  Those “cake” stamps look a lot like washi tape to me!

Bohemian Hello and Envelope 1 watermarked

I stamped the first “piece of cake/washi” in Delightful Dijon and then offset the smaller dotted “tape” in Rich Razzleberry.  Then, in Tuxedo Black Memento ink, I stamped my sentiment.  Gotta love those photopolymers – I was able to re-stamp the letters as needed to get the depth of color I wanted.  With the sentiment complete, I stamped the Bohemian….shapes?  Icons? Designs?…in a pattern that made me happy.  The colors are Delightful Dijon, Rich Razzleberry and Bermuda Bay (which I colored with my Stampin’ Write Marker from my big, beautiful Many Marvelous Markers box!).  I adhered the panel to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Bohemian Hello and Envelope 2 watermarked

For the little clothes-pin….I confess, I used a non-SU! clip.  It was bright yellow – so I stuck it in the Delightful Dijon ink pad, all over, until it darkened it up.  Looks pretty good, really!  I slipped a length of Bermuda Bay Baker’s Twine thru the pin, tied a little bow and then glued it in place with the tiniest dab of Liquid Multi-purpose Glue.  Then I stuck the pin onto the top of the sentiment mat.  And the front was done!

Bohemian Hello Outside 1 watermarked

For the inside, I just stamped a few of the border lines in Delightful Dijon and Rich Razzleberry onto another piece of Whisper White Card Stock.

Bohemian Hello Inside 1 watermarked

Then I colored a little with my Bermuda Bay marker – and the card was done!!

I also decorated my Medium Whisper White Envelope with some more Bohemian-ism.

Bohemian Hello and Envelope 2 watermarked

I couldn’t find even one spot where a Rhinestone or a Pearl would be needed, so…..done!

I’m loving this set – and I completely LOVE the Layered Letters.  This is a casual font, that I can see a lot of use for, in a really good size for almost any card!

The end of the Retiring List availability is just a week-and-a-day away…..as is the first day you can order from the awesome new catalog!  2 June – here it comes!  Be watching and ready to go online and place your first order!

When you see the products used in this card  (below), remember that you’ll be able to click on all of them, but you won’t be able to order the new products.

See you tomorrow for the new Weekly Deals – which means, of course, that today is your last day for THIS week’s weekly deal!

Starry Starry Hi!

Feel free to sing the Blog title to the tune of Don McLean’s Starry Starry Night!  That’s what I heard in my head as I came up with the title of this post.  Kind of a random association – sorry….

In the ongoing saga of Mary’s Flat Learning Curve (coming soon to theaters near you), my card for today is another one I promised to my friend here at work – he wanted something to send to his kids, too.  Here’s the thing with kid cards – it helps to have KID stamps!  Which, not having actual KIDS (my horses have never ever, not even once, requested a card or been hurt by the lack thereof!!), I don’t have!  So – I had to stretch my creative brain and make something work.  I originally thought maybe I’d use the soon-to-be-gone From the Herd picture.  It’s cute and could easily be kid-friendly.  But, my creative (and tired!!) brain just couldn’t make it work (yes, I considered the famous Etch-a-Sketch card, but – I don’t have the correct framelits so….).  Bottom line – I decided to go a different route.  What I ended up with I think is great for pretty much any age – and I hope that the kids who receive it will like it!  Their dad’s been gone for a while, so I suspect they’re going to like ANYthing they get from him at this point!  And I’ve heard rumors there’s a Disney trip in their near future (she says enviously….)!

Any-who – here’s what I came up with.  Take a look-see:

Starry Hi Outside 1 Watermarked

Hmm.  My colors didn’t come out as true as I’d hoped – sorry!  These are two of the new In Colors for 2015-2017….Watermelon Wonder and Mint Macaron.  And, obviously, I also used the Stars Framelits (which made into the new catalog!).  I started with a panel of Mint Macaron, which I ran thru my Big Shot to cut the next-to-largest star, and then again in the new Boho Chic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  Then, I laid my cut Mint mat over the top of my Watermelon Wonder card base, and cut out the next smallest star.  Here’s where my Magnetic Platform REALLY paid for itself.  I really needed the die to stay where I put it in order to ensure the cutouts matched up.  I hung on to the two star cutouts – you’ll see in a minute how I used them. (The next pic will give you a pretty good clue….!)

Starry Hi Outside 3 watermarked

I used a LOT of Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the embossed panel to the card base – I really wanted all the points of the star to be well supported so they hold up in the envelope.  Once the panel was on, I cut out a bunch of stars with the various size framelits as well as with my Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack star.  I used some Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper, some more of the Mint Macaron (that I also embossed with the Boho Chic TIEF) and – in a surfeit of economy – part of the leftover In Color Envelope paper from the envelope in my previous post!  I cut all the different sizes and played around with the layout for a while, then got busy with my Liquid Multi-Purpose Glue and got everything stuck down.  On the stars that hang off the edge of the center cut-out, I used teensy pieces of dimensionals to support them.  And that pretty much did it for the front!

Starry Hi Outside 2 watermarked

On the inside, I pulled out another of my brand new stamp sets – Layered Letters Alphabet – and lined them up on my clear block  – gotta love those photopolymers!! 🙂 I first SNAIL’d my big leftover Mint Macaron star in the center of the die cut opening.  Then, I used my Stamp-a-Ma-Jig to ensure that I stamped the Memento Black word onto the Whisper White Liner, in the middle of my star opening.

Starry Hi Inside 1 watermarked

Then I had a little party with some more stars – no rhyme or reason, just kept adding until I liked it!  I pulled out my Rhinestone Basic Jewels and considered them for a while….then, kinda regretfully, decided I just didn’t need them.  Not for boy-kids!  If we’d been talking girl-kids, now….. 🙂  Sorry for the gender stereotyping!

I had a few more stars leftover (including the Watermelon Wonder card stock cut out – which I also ran thru the Boho Chic TIEF), so I decided to ornament a Medium Whisper White envelope with them.  I spread some Liquid Multi-purpose Glue onto the top 2/3 or so of the star, and adhered it on the envelope flap.  I put a little strip of Sticky Tape on the bottom of the star – that way once he’s enclosed the card, he can seal the flap and stick the rest of the star down – to help it make it through the post office!

Starry Hi with envelope 1 watermarked

And – done!  Dad was happy with this one, too – so I count that a complete success!  Hope that you guys enjoyed it as well.

When you see the products used in this card  (below), remember that you’ll be able to click on all of them, but you won’t be able to order the new products (the card stock, TIEF and Layered Letters Alphabet) until 2 June. But – don’t let that keep you from trying this – you could use any color combo, TIEF and sentiment.  Have fun with it!

See you tomorrow for the new Weekly Deals – which means, of course, that today is your last day for THIS week’s weekly deal!

TTFN and LLAP

P.S.  My next order will – obviously! – include some kid stamps.  Which Stampin’ Up! has a bunch of….take a gander at THIS one coming soon…..

No bones about it
