Good morning and happy last Saturday of July!  Can you EVEN believe that it’s practically….AUGUST!?  That is just crazy to me.  I will admit I’m ready to get August behind us and perhaps get into some cooler weather!  Fall is my fave and I’m ready for some of it!

BACK-TO-SCHOOL SALES TAX HOLIDAYS COMING UP!

The 2025 back-to-school sales tax holiday season begins this weekend and there are twelve states (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Ohio, South Caroling, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia) offering a sales tax holiday for school supplies during the months of July and August. Products that are eligible according to the statute include “items normally used by students in a standard classroom for educational purposes.”  Click the table below to open the chart and see what is available and when! 🙂

Please note that you must place your order with Stampin’ Up! DURING the tax holiday period to receive these items tax-free. Also, keep in mind that this is a STATE SALES TAX holiday; the state statute may not apply to county, city, and special jurisdiction taxes.

Finn Fan Fix 

 

Next week is my annual physical.

YESTERDAY’S was Cady’s day!  Check up, rabies shot (have to get that from the vet here – we do all the others ourselves) and…dental check!

Unlike people doctors (who defer toofs to dentists) – pony doctors are…more… all-encompassing!

Upon her exam, Dr. Katy discovered some sharp points.  Pony teeth sort of grow for their entire lives (until they “run out”) – and…in the course of chewing and whatnot – they grind the surface of the teeth.  Sometimes, they can get sharp points on the tops of their toofs.  And they can cut their cheeks – tongues – etc.  Or – just make it difficult for them to chew their feed efficiently.

So – we “float” them.  Technical term for…filing down those sharp points and making the toof owner more comfy!

A little…uhm…sleepy juice is the first step!  Not a lot – we want her standing on her own power. As you can see here – she’s quite relaxed.  Head…so…heavy!

Then comes the speculum.  A medieval torture device looking thing that makes it possible for the doc to see in – and file the offending sharp points.  And they rest her head on a padded stand.

A little pre-rinse with some medicated water – like…antibacterial mouthwash!

Then – out comes the power equipment.  Yep – a cordless drill with a special dental attachment.

In days past – long past, at least for us – vets used a manual file.  It was HARD work.

It’s still pretty strenuous.

When it was all done – they said she was a very good girl.  Even sedated – they can (and many do!) fight the whole thing – the whole time.  Some need extra happy juice.

Not my sweet pony – she seemed quite content to just doze – head on the padded pillow/stand – and let them do what they needed to do.

Needless to say – when she finally woke all the way back up – she got her fly mask and a peppermint or two and…time out in her shady pasture.

That’s what happens to very good girls here at the Deatherage house! 🙂
