Stampin’ Up! Hi There Flowering Desert

What DAY is it?!??  What day is IT?!?

Yea – you know what day it is.  We’re halfway thru a short week!

And – it looks like things they are a-changing for me (travel-wise) so…stay tuned!  I may be in town this weekend to spend a little time with y’all on Sunday night!  More to come on the continuing perturbations in Mary’s schedule.

Cuz – I know you’re all simply agog with anticipation! 😉

My good-for-any-occasion card today uses a fun little stamp set in the Occasions catalog called Flowering Desert.  Take a look-see:

The layout for this quick-and-easy card is loosely based on the sketch from FabFriday this week.

I started with a Shaded Spruce card base and decorated the front and inside with the little cactus-spine-y image from the Flowering Desert stamp set by stamping it all over in Shaded Spruce.  Then I ran just the front thru the Big Shot in the Subtle Dynamic TIEF.

On a Whisper White panel, I first stamped the saguaro image from Flowering Desert in Shaded Spruce.  Then I created a little desert scene with more of the images in the set, stamping them in Granny Apple Green and So Saffron.  I also added some Poppy Parade and Mango Melody cactus flowers.

I used that same cactus spine-y image again to add some So Saffron texture here and there on the panel, then I matted it So Saffron and adhered it to the front of the card base with Liquid Glue.

The sentiment, also from Flowering Desert, is stamped in Granny Apple Green on Whisper White and cut out with a Rectangle Stitched Framelits die.

I popped the sentiment onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals and…that was it!

Hope you were sitting down… 😉

On the inside, I created another little desert scene in the corner of a Whisper White panel.

I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a So Saffron mat and into the Shaded Spruce card base and the card was done!

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got more Flowering Desert on the front…

…and the back!

Et Voila! Saguaro, cholla, prickly pear, barrel, aloe – so many cacti and succulents (I’m pretty sure aloe is a succulent!) – can be made with this fun Flowering Desert stamp set!  And with sweet little sentiments to boot! Hope you like!

  1. Sweet card! Love the clean design…I was a little shocked when I opened up your blog post today. 😉

As for the caption: “It was the cat, I swear…the cat did it.”

    • stampsnlingers

I know. It took every ounce of willpower to not add a bow, rhinestone, button, sequin…SOMEthing!! LOL! Yep – the cat is always first to get the thrown under the bus! Thanks, Amy! 🙂

  2. Rita

My caption: “Mom, put that luggage away! If you go on another of those long trips, Dad and I won’t be here when you get back!”

    • stampsnlingers

Yep – packing is toys and his bones and leaving home! Poor little man – he HATES when I leave! 🙁 Thanks, Rita!

  3. Caption: “Perturbations? That’s a big word, Mom!” Ha! He really looks like he’s thinking you are never done taking pics of him. I really like the design of your card and I don’t think it loosely follows the sketch…I think it’s perfect!

    • stampsnlingers

It IS a pretty big word!! And I know he knows what that camera is doing when I point it at him! Being a star isn’t easy! Thanks much, Karen! 🙂

  4. jean maas

You have that darn camera in my face again????

  5. Kate

    Great desert take.
Caption: O.K. so why aren’t you packing? Did you pack while I was sleeping? You aren’t going??? It’s not nice to fool the Finn…

    • stampsnlingers

LOL – yep. At least I hadn’t already pulled out the suitcase and got him upset! That will wait for another few weeks! Thanks, Mom! 🙂

  6. Elisha Smith

Sweet card! Love your color combo! I think Finn is saying – “Nine dimensionals AGAIN?” 😆

    • stampsnlingers

LOL!! OR….MOM! That was only EIGHT!!! 🙂 Thanks, Elisha! 🙂

  7. pam zorn

Love your card Mary! Such a cute stamp set!

  8. Heather Heroldt

I have to say, love these bold fiesta colors! I also love your inside and envelope details – such a beautiful finishing touch! Thanks so much for playing at Fab Friday!

  9. Karen Andrews

    Are you kidding me?

  10. Eunice Stoneman

Who would have thought a cactus card could be so cute! Good job! A caption for this picture of Finn could be ‘I’m NOT moving again, you go around the other way’.

    • stampsnlingers

Yep – that’s a good one! And pretty durned accurate! Thanks so much, Eunice! 🙂

  11. Judy Giddens

Who Me? Never MOM. The cat did it.

    • stampsnlingers

Yep – that’s what I was thinking, too! “Now Mom – before you say anything let me just tell you it was the cat, okay?!” 🙂

  12. Claire Snyder

It’s the second coldest February in recorded weather history in Montana, so your card makes me want to go south to Arizona. Here’s a caption: Seriously–you’re actually giving me a choice between chocolate and pasta??

    • stampsnlingers

LOL!!! That might be just exactly what he’s saying! Thanks, Claire – hope you can stay warm! 🙂
