Stampin’ Up! Coffee Cafe Makes the Day Go Better!

Happy Saturday, y’all!  I’m at work today – but there’s a light at the end of the tunnel!  Yesterday was a good one – we actually got things done!  You need to do things at work – one of my guys even mentioned actually feeling like he’d accomplished something, so…good day for all of us!  And, looks like I should be home next weekend!  Whoo-hoo!  We’ll play next weekend’s Sunday night video by ear – but I’ll be on tomorrow night. 🙂

A friend of mine had a bit of a tough week this week, so I thought I’d make her a quick card.   And since coffee makes my day better – do not get between me and that first cup (fair warning!) – I decided to use some goodies from the new Coffee Break Suite.  Take a look-see:

My layout was inspired – loosely! – by the sketch challenge this week at Freshly Made Sketches.

So, to start with – can y’all guess how I made my card front?  No…don’t scroll down to the product list.  That’s cheating!

Take a minute.

If you guessed that I used the Marbled background stamp – you guessed right!  I inked it up with Soft Suede ink and stamped a Very Vanilla panel.  Looks like cafe au lait, doesn’t it??

I Fast Fuse’d the panel to a Pear Pizzazz mat and that was my card front.

Next up is a square of the Coffee Break DSP, matted on a scalloped edge square of Pear Pizzazz, which I cut with the Squares Layering Framelits, and adhered to the card front with Liquid Glue.

I added a short strip of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon with some more Liquid Glue and then started pulling my Grande Americano!

I stamped the Coffee Cafe cup image on a piece of Very Vanilla card stock in Chocolate Chip Ink.  While I was at it, I stamped the lid image, too, also in Chocolate Chip.  Then I cut them both out with their matching die from the bundled Coffee Cup Framelits.

Using a Sponge Dauber, I ever-so-lightly (lightly!!) added a little Crumb Cake to the left side of my cup – just for a little depth. Hint:  use your Crumb Cake Sponge Dauber without adding any more ink.  Drier – almost too dry – is better!

The coffee insulator is cut with the fun die from Coffee Cups Framelits from a piece of Crumb Cake card stock.  This one cuts the shape and embosses it with the cool corrugated stripes that makes it look just like one of those coffee cup thingys you get at the coffee shop.  The ones that keep you from getting third degree burns thru the not-so-thick coffee cup? I used a little Liquid Glue to attach it and then wrapped some Linen Thread twice around the cup, securing it in the back with tape.  Then I tied a double-length bow and adhered it with a dab of Liquid Glue.

I cut a Garden Green oval with the die in the Coffee Cups Framelits and adhered it with Glue.  Next is a heart from the Corrugated Elements.  Finally, I stamped the “Hi” from the Coffee Cafe stamp set onto one of the Soft Sky circles on a piece of Coffee Break DSP and punched it out with my 1/2″ Circle Punch.  I adhered it to the cup, popped the whole thing over the Burlap Ribbon and DSP panel with Dimensionals and the card front was done!

On the inside, I stamped a sentiment from Coffee Cafe in Chocolate Chip ink on a Very Vanilla panel.  Under it, I added the little heart in Soft Sky.  And, across the bottom, you’ll find some Chocolate Chip coffee beans and Soft Sky hearts – all courtesy of the Coffee Cafe stamp set!

I Fast Fuse’d the panel to a Pear Pizzazz mat and into my Garden Green card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

I added more Coffee Cafe coffee beans in Chocolate Chip and Soft Sky hearts across the front of my Very Vanilla Medium Envelope…

…and gave the envelope flap some more of the Coffee Break DSP.

Et Voila!  I’m loving that Marbled background stamp, aren’t you?  Looks like coffee with cream just swirling thru it!  And I think the Coffee Cafe stamp set and bundled Coffee Cups Framelits – are just perfect – especially paired up with their coordinating Coffee Break DSP.  Hope you like!

  1. Perfect background Mary! Looks just like a latte. 🙂 Great card!

  2. Oh Mary, I’ve been resisting that marbled background stamp, until now. What a brilliant idea to make it look like coffee. Lovely, just lovely. And yes, I do find that first cup changes everything. ❤️

  3. When I saw your card pop up, my first thoughts were: “Mary is using Perfectly Artistic DSP, but she never uses retired product on her new cards.” “Mary used the shaving cream technique.” Those were fleeting thoughts because I knew deep in my heart that it was the marbled background stamp, which I have had my eye on since the get go. Great card and choices of product to use. I like your loose translation of the sketch. Your friend will love it and I’m sorry she had a not-so-good week. I’m happy that your weeks in hot, humid Florida are coming to an end. Have a great weekend.

    • Very good sleuthing, Karen! 🙂 And yes – you should add this stamp to your arsenal! Thanks so much – I am, indeed, ready to go home! 🙂

  4. Kate

Your card and a cuppa will brighten your friend’s day, I am sure.

  5. Great card, Mary (as I sit here drinking my chai latte)! I think I am going to have to get that marbled background stamp after seeing how lovely it is on your card. Look forward to seeing you tomorrow night!

  6. Wendie

Love your card. That cafe au lait background is yummy.

  7. RitaR

So, so cute using the Marbled Background with your coffee themed card (since I’m not a coffee lover, I saw CHOCOLATE!!! when I looked at your card …. and don’t get between me and my chocolate stash, either)! How good that you plan to be home by next weekend!! Can’t wait to hear how Finn reacts when he sees you!!

    • He’s probably going to wiggle his little wiggler plumb off!! SOOOO looking forward to seeing him again! I feel similarly about chocolate, Rita! And chocolate and coffee together?!? Oh my!! Thanks so much, Rita! 🙂

  8. Oh, what a fun card, Mary. I love the smell of coffee, and this stamp set and the matching DSP, but coffee is well….anyway, your card is awesome! Hope you get a lot accomplished and get home soon.

    • Oh! You like the smell but not the taste! I know other sort-of-weird folks like that! 😉 Thanks so much, Jari! 🙂

  9. Ellie Peckler

I really like your card, Mary. It’s cheery and calming at the same time. I bet you can’t wait to be home with your hubby and Finn! – Ellie

  10. Great card, Mary! As I sit with my daughter having my ?? cup of the day, and enjoying your thought process as well. I just prefer mine in a real mug, not a cardboard cup.

    • LOL! Just remember – this is in ADDITION to, not INSTEAD of!! Thanks much, Julie – and enjoy your visit! 🙂

  11. Susan K

That background hopped out at me first thing…yes, perfect for your card. So cheerful, coffee-drinker or not! Glad it was a productive day and home is within sight!

  12. jentimko

Your background is fabulous! What a fun way to show off this great die and stamp set. Glad you joined us this week at FMS!

  13. Such a cute cup of coffee! And I love how you’ve finished the inside. Thanks for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches this week!
