Stampin’ Up! Large Numbers Guy Greetings Birthday Card

Late breaking news! I just found out the 4th-of-July card that I made with the Timeless Textures stamp set was selected as an Artist Pick at Hand Stamped Sentiments!  I want to thank the good folks at HSS for picking my card out of the really great cards that were submitted.  When you have a chance – go check them – and the other winners! – out, okay? You can click right here! If you want to see how I made this card, just click the picture! 🙂

Touches of Texture 4th of July 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Happy Hawwmp Day (I checked the calendar – it’s for sure Wednesday!), y’all! 🙂  Which means the week is half over – which means there’s only two more work days ‘afore I get to head for the home-drome!  Of course that also means I should be busy packing my stuff back into the boxes and totes I brought it here in.  Or, for you grammarians….the boxes and totes in which I done brung it!

I have a quick – and sorta sad! – update about Duck Duck.  It appears that, although wild geese mate for life, if domestic geese do the same, well….it’s with other geese.  Appears they don’t stick with humans for good.

Duck Duck seems to have flown…well…waddled…the coop pond.

Yes – it’s true.  Or true as of the writing of this post.  Wayne took her her dinner and….she was gone.  He spied her back next door, where we believe she hails from…with two plain ole white geese.

The kind you’d put an apron on by your front porch.  Only…like…you know….real!

Guess she got her chopped cabbage and watermelon and duck crumbles and cracked corn and showers when it was hot and….sob….just….SOB….LEEEEEEEFFFFFFTTTTTT!!!! (I don’t know how to make a crying emoticon, so pretend there’s one of those right here!).

Maybe she just misses me so terribly that…no, Mary.  No.  You know what they say…if you love something, let it waddle away.  If it loves you back, she’ll return.

Sniff…..

Give me a minute to collect myself.

sniff…

Okay.  I’m good.  I’m pulling up my big girl panties and getting on with my life.

Today’s card is kind of a fun one – I actually chuckled out loud while I was making it (before Wayne called, that is).  I played with a couple of challenges – and let me show you the first one before I show you the card.

Just Us Girls had a photo challenge.  JUGS #353 was all about golf.

JUGS #353 Sketch
So – I used some of the Large Number and Large Letter Framelits.  And some Labeler Alphabet.  And I made a Guy Greetings kinda card.  Take a look-see:

Large Number Labeler Birthday 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers
Get it?!?

Four!

LOL – I’m Cwackin’ myself up!! (Oh gosh…she’s everywhere!)

I also played along with a sketch challenge that helped me with the layout.  Stamp Ink Paper #58:

SIP #58 Sketch
You can see I stuck kinda close to the photo in the Just Us Girls challenge.  Which made the card front really easy!  I picked my colors and cut a strip of each color – each strip is 3/16″ wide.  I cut a piece of Whisper White card stock (could have been any color, cuz it’s all covered up!) and started laying the strips out, using Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere them.  Each strip was longer than the panel is wide, so when I was all done, I just trimmed the excess off the sides.  Here’s the colors, from the top:

  • Dapper Denim
  • Pacific Point
  • Marina Mist
  • Pool Party
  • Crumb Cake
  • Crumb Cake
  • Smoky Slate
  • Pear Pizzazz
  • Wild Wasabi
  • Emerald Envy
  • Garden Green

I laid the strips down – working from the top down until I got to the first Crumb Cake strip.  Then I worked from the bottom up until I got to the second Crumb Cake strip.  I knew I’d have a gap and I wanted it in the middle, to be covered by my piece of Tip Top Taupe 5/8″ Mini Striped Ribbon.  After I trimmed the excess card stock, I wrapped my ribbon around the panel and secured it in the back with scotch tape.

The Large Number Framelit cut started with the Hardwood Background Stamp, inked in Chocolate Chip and stamped on Whisper White.  I cut the number 4 and then, from the same stamped paper, cut the exclamation point from the new Large Letters Framelits.  Then I cut a second one of each – this time in Basic Black.  I adhered each wood-stamped piece to its matching Basic Black piece with Liquid Glue, offsetting them slightly to make a shadow.

Large Number Labeler Birthday 8 - Stamps-N-Lingers
Using the Ovals Layering Framelits, I cut a Chocolate Chip oval and a scalloped Basic Black Oval.  I ran the Chocolate Chip piece thru the Big Shot in my Woodgrain TIEF and then used a little SNAIL to stick it to its mat.  Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue adhered the number and the exclamation point.  I popped the whole thing over the ribbon with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The rest of the sentiment is pulled together with the Labeler Alphabet.  I first stamped the words in Chocolate Chip ink on Whisper White and snipped them out.  Then I adhered them with Liquid Glue to Basic Black card stock – and snipped those out – leaving a little extra as shadows/mats.  And I popped them on with Stampin’ Dimensionals!

Large Number Labeler Birthday 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I SNAILd the whole thing to a Chocolate Chip card stock mat.  And spent a little time deciding whether to add any more…anything…to it.

I decided to let the fun striped card front do the work and left it at that!

On the inside, I used the Guy Greetings stamp set to wish my as-yet-unknown-golfer-recipient a Happy Birthday.  I stamped the sentiment in Chocolate Chip.  And then I decided that the shoes in the stamp set are – quite obviously 😉 – golf shoes!  So I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig and stamped them across the bottom of the panel in Basic Black Archival Ink.  Then I colored each shoe with the colors from the card front.  It really does pay to own every color Stampin’ Write Marker! 🙂

Large Number Labeler Birthday 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers
Now – you might notice that I went left-to-right in the same order as the card front – but no Crumb Cake.  I had 10 shoes and 11 colors – so I decided to leave Crumb Cake out.  Just cuz.  I colored the shoe laces – all of them are Crushed Curry, except the two middle shoes – these are the Smoky Slate and Sahara Sand shoes.  They got Melon Mambo laces.  A bold color choice, I know, but I’m sure my guy will be able to deal with it!

I wrapped a length of the Tip Top Taupe 5/8″ Mini Striped Ribbon around the panel, securing it in the back with more scotch tape, SNAILd it to a Chocolate Chip mat and then into my Basic Black card base.  Then I popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the card was done!

Large Number Labeler Birthday 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers
My Whisper White Medium Envelope got two more Basic Black Archival Ink shoes on the front – which I colored in Emerald Envy/Crushed Curry and Dapper Denim/Crushed Curry…

Large Number Labeler Birthday 6 - Stamps-N-Lingers
…and another pair on the back, colored in Smoky Slate/Melon Mambo.

Large Number Labeler Birthday 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers
Et Voila!  I love this striped background and I love the play on words on this card.  And I was so excited to use that exclamation point in my Large Letters Framelits!  Hope you like!
