Stampin’ Up! In Which I CASE Myself with Painters Palette and Large Numbers!

‘Sup, y’all?  Everyone getting ready to head back to work?  Me, too.  Bleh.  But, I put beef stew in my crock pot so I’ll have dinner all ready when I get back to the hotel tonight – Yum! 🙂

So, last week, I had my cards with me in my bag, and I showed them to my two friends at work.  They were both suitably impressed – doesn’t take much, they don’t realize that the tools I have at my disposal can make me look like a card-making-genius – and I kind of keep that to myself! 😉  And they both requested a card.  The first is the anniversary card I shared with you yesterday.  And the second – which you’re fixin’ to see, is a birthday card for the second guy’s daughter – who’ll be turning 7 shortly.

Now – this is the same guy that, while we were on a previous trip, got a whole bunch of SU! stuff from me for his wife and daughter.  Apparently, his daughter is very artsy and really loves making things.  He was immediately taken with the Painters Palette card I showed you on Friday.  And when he asked for the birthday card – requested one just like it!  Only with a birthday sentiment!

I asked what colors his daughter liked – he said pink.  So, I told him I’d change up the colors – including the card base.  And he said – no – he liked the black background and he knew his daughter would, too!

Since the customer is always right….and it’s a custom card….well, I gave him what he asked for!  This time I added a sentiment from Circle of Spring, some Hearts and a Bitty Butterfly.  She’s still a little girl, after all (seven is still a “little girl”, right??)!  Take a look-see:

See?  Looks eerily familiar, doesn’t it?  Good eye. 😉

The basic layout and the measurements are all the same as the card from Friday.  I used a different – more pink/purple-centric pattern from the Playful Palette DSP, and matted both of the front panels with Sweet Sugarplum for this one.  I SNAILd the matted DSP panel to the front of my Basic Black card base.

For the top panel, I first stamped the Painters Palette easel image in Basic Black Archival Ink on a panel of Very Vanilla card stock.  Inside that, I stamped the birthday sentiment from Circle of Spring in Flirty Flamingo.  For a painterly look, I added the small swath image from Painters Palette in Peekaboo Peach over the sentiment and in Sweet Sugarplum underneath.

I cut the number “7” from a piece of the same Playful Palette DSP that I’d used on the panel, and one from a piece of Sweet Sugarplum card stock, using my Large Numbers Framelits.  Then I adhered them together with a little Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue, offsetting the card stock number slightly to create a shadow.

I used a little more Liquid Glue to adhere it to the card front and then I “pinned” it on.  To do that, I heat embossed the push pin image from Painters Palette in Copper Stampin’ Emboss Powder, on a scrap of Very Vanilla.  Then I fussy cut the image, glued it to a second piece of Very Vanilla and fussy cut that – giving me a double-thickness “push pin”.  I used a little piece of Stampin’ Dimensional to adhere it to the number, making it look like it was, indeed, “pushed” into the card.

I popped that panel on to the card front.  Then I used my Bitty Butterfly punch to punch out a little butterfly from the back design of the Playful Palette DSP.  I also punched some hearts, using my Confetti Hearts Border punch.  I adhered everything to the corner of the card front with little dabs of Liquid Glue.  Finishing it off, I added a few Pearl Basic Jewels to the body of the butterfly and the card front was done!

The inside got another piece of Very Vanilla card stock, matted on Sweet Sugarplum.  I SNAILd that into the card, and then added a couple of strips of Playful Palette Designer Washi Tape.

And the card was done!

The Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got a couple of strips of the Playful Palette Designer Washi Tape across the front…

…and a liner from the Playful Palette DSP stack, cut with my Envelope Liner Framelits.

Et Voila!  What I hope will be a card that an artsy-craftsy little girl (who may not fancy herself a little girl anymore!) will enjoy and perhaps draw some inspiration from!

I apologize for the similarity between this card and Friday’s! 🙁  But it does show what a versatile layout this is, doesn’t it?

Now – tomorrow we have a little treat!  Even though it’s Tuesday, and I’ll be bringing you the updates from SU! – I’ll also be bringing you a card share as part of the First Ever Amy’s Inkin’ Krew Blog Hop!  The theme of this week’s hop is Retiring Products.  So all of us will share a project we’ve made with a stamp set that’s going away, that we’re particularly going to miss!  I do hope you’ll come back and join us.  One admin note – we’re all going live at 8am Eastern – so about 30 minutes later than you’re used to getting a post from me!

I’ll see you tomorrow for the blog hop! 🙂

TTFN!
