Stampin’ Up! Botanical Builder Hello

Hey, y’all – welcome back.  Glad that you could stop by on this Wednesday – Hawp Day!  I have a confession to make to you.  Yesterday I told you that I pretty much never run out of Pearl Basic Jewels.  That was sort of a fib.  I didn’t realize it was a fib until I went to make today’s card.  When I got to the point where I needed to find my flower centers – they were pretty much begging to have Pearls in them! – I realized just how dire my circumstances had become.

Oh, I knew my supply was low – especially in the area of the tiniest of the pearls in a pack.  I have none of those left.  Nary a one!  I have a smattering of medium sized ones and hooked-together straight strip ones.  And tons of giant ones – cuz of how I seldom use that size.

So Monday – when I ordered the fringe scissors – when they were on sale – I grabbed a couple of Pearl Basic Jewel packs.  Yes, of course I did, since they went on sale the very next day! 🙁  Not to say I won’t put in another order – I need those teeny tiny seed pearls! But, I hate missing a sale.  I mean – I’m perfectly willing to spend $20 on pearl packs just cuz I can save $1.25 a pack.  Aren’t you? 😉

Anywho – I decided to use the large pearls on this card – I hope they don’t look too awfully clunky to you!  I used one of the new Annual Catalog DSPs – well, it was new last summer, anyway! – the Bohemian DSP.  And I combined it with some flowers from the Botanical Builder Framelits and a greeting from the Greetings Thinlits.  Take a look-see:

Botanical Builder Hello 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I worked off a sketch from CAS(E) This Sketch – challenge #164.

CTS 164 Sketch

When I first started considering this sketch, I thought of the Bohemian Borders stamp set.  But then I started thinking about the Bohemian DSP and I decided I wanted to use it – it had been a while, and it’s so pretty.  Bright and rich colors.  And stamping those borders on any of the DSP patterns, well…no.  So the idea evolved and I ended up pulling out the Botanical Builder Framelits.

I started with one of the more solid-y patterns in the Bohemian DSP and I decided to mat it on Delightful Dijon.  That began the color palette.  The first thing I did was to cut two pieces of Blackberry Bliss (man, I’m going to miss this color a lot when it leaves us in just a few more weeks! 🙁 ) with the edge die in Botanical Builder.  Then I used Mulit-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere it to my Bohemian DSP panel.

Over that, I adhered a piece of the 1 1/4″ Burlap Ribbon – trimming the ends to just meet the edge of the card front.  I made sure to get the glue along that cut edge, to help reduce fraying.  To finish the element, I used a piece of Hello Honey 5/8″ Striped Cotton Ribbon, which I wrapped around the edge and secured in the back with scotch tape.

Then it was time to build my flowers!  Using the medium sized flower die in the Botanical Builder Framelits, I cut four Very Vanilla flowers.  First I stamped a flower center from the Botanical Blooms stamp set in Delightful Dijon and then I creased each petal and lightly brushed the edges with Delightful Dijon using a sponge dauber.

Botanical Builder Hello 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I cut a few of the really detailed little flower centers – two from Rich Razzleberry and one from Blackberry Bliss.  Finally, I punched out several of the Itty Bitty Accent Punch Pack flowers from some Delightful Dijon card stock.  I creased and rolled their petals and brushed the edges with Delightful Dijon.

Before adhering any flowers, I laid 4 Glue Dots along the Striped Cotton Ribbon and used them to secure a few loops of Gold Metallic Thread under where the flowers would go.  When that was ready, I first adhered the three small detailed flower centers – can you see them peeking out of there? I used Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to stick all these flowers on.  Then I laid on the large Very Vanilla Flowers and interspersed the Itty Bitty Accent Punch Pack flowers in amongst them.

Let me say something right here.  I know that you can’t always really “see” all the elements that are layered and stacked on a card.  Like the Burlap Ribbon or the tiny, oh-so-detailed Rich Razzlebeery and Blackberry Bliss flowers that are on the bottom of this “stack”.  But, I think your eye and your mind registers them as “there”.  And I think without them, your eye and mind would tell you something was missing.  You might not be able to say what that “something” was – but….you’d register it as missing.  Does that make sense – or did you all just roll your eyes and think “oh for goodness sake, Mare – quit pretending you were an Art major in college!” 😉

The sentiment is a three-stack of words cut with the Greetings Thinlit dies.  I cut two in Delightful Dijon and sandwiched a Blackberry Bliss in between – adhering them together with Liquid Glue.  I used a little bit more – remember to go easy, this stuff is stout! – to adhere it to the card front.

Botanical Builder Hello 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I decided to add one more flower – you really can’t have too many, I don’t think! 🙂  This one is a Blackberry Bliss 4-petaled two-piece flower layered with a small Very Vanilla flower that was sponged with Delightful Dijon.  Then I added one last Delightful Dijon Itty Bitty Accent Punch flower.  I used Liquid Glue to stick them all together and then to the card front.

I finished off by SNAILing the panel to its Delightful Dijon mat.

Botancial Builder Hello 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers

On the inside, I made another Blackberry Bliss piece with a Botanical Builder edge cut into it on the top – which I then adhered with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to a Very Vanilla card stock panel.  Over that I ran another piece of the Hello Honey 5/8″ Striped Cotton Ribbon – wrapping it and securing it in the back with scotch tape.  Then I SNAILd the whole thing to a Delightful Dijon mat.

Botanical Builder Hello 6 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I SNAILd it into my Rich Razzleberry card base and then did the same with the card front (already lots of thickness with the flowers on the front!).  Then I added my Pearl Basic Jewels – medium sized ones in the small flowers and the large ones in the bigger flowers.  And that was it for the card.

For the envelope, I stamped several of the Botanical Blooms starry flower image in Delightful Dijon onto the front of a Medium Very Vanilla Envelope…

…and used another piece of the Bohemian DSP, cut with the Envelope Liner Framelits, inside the envelope.

Botanical Builder Hello 9 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Et Voila!  Something old, something new, something borrowed (the sketch idea?  A stretch, maybe!), something blue.  Shoulda been a wedding card! 🙂

  1. I love this Mary! The larger pearls work perfectly with the die cut flowers. 🙂 The sponged edges are beautiful and so is the layering. Love everything about it!

  2. Yeah!! I’m glad to hear that someone likes the bigger pearls on this card! Thanks, Amy! 🙂

  3. Mom

A pearl can’t be too big, can it??? I think they are a great choice even if you hadn’t been out of the ones you wanted. They suit the flower style, IMHO.

Whew, that was a production!! But, a very lovely one at that. I think the large pearls look just great on those flowers. I love “hawmp day”……I think that is my most favorite commercial of all times…….and I am one that hates commercials!! Keep up the great work. Karen

    • LOL. It was a lot easier than my long-winded description probably made it sound! And yea – MIKE MIKE MIKE MIKE MIKE! A classic! Thanks, Karen! 😉

  5. This is lovely! Wonderful take on the sketch!
