Stampin’ Up! Cups & Kettle Birthday Blooms – and Blog Candy Winner!

Happy Hawp Day!  I’m especially glad that it’s Wednesday cuz that means I’m a day closer to heading home!  Yeah!!

We have a Blog Candy winner – check it out below….

Today’s card is a bit of a departure from the norm for me.  Not too far off the beaten path, but…it’s a little frillier than I might normally make.  I used the Cups & Kettle Framelits dies and some of the Birthday Blooms stamp set.  And more of the gorgeous Birthday Bouquet DSP.  And Watermelon Wonder 1″ Dotted Lace Trim.  What looks like a lot of dotted lace!  Take a look-see:

See what I mean?  It reminds me of Scarlett O’Hara’s bonnet – tied under her chin with a wide ribbon in a big, flouncy bow…

Or a hat that Melanie might have worn if she and Belle Watling had worked in the same…err….industry!

Don’t get me wrong, I was pretty tickled when I came up with the idea for the card and was actually able to bring it to life, and I think it’s beautiful and full of Southern-Belle-Charm.

I made this card in response to a sketch challenge – but when I went back to find it?  Nuthin’!  No clue – just disappeared.  So….

——————–

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE (TIME:  mere moments after the post posted and my friend Amy Koenders – who is way more organized than I am and whose e-mail doesn’t just mysteriously send e-mails to….I don’t even know where cuz if I did I’d go find them!)  Amy reminded me which challenge I was using when I made this card!  It’s the TGIF Challenge #46:

TGIFC46 Sketch

See the horizontal element?  Yea – that’s what I was going for with the lace ribbon?  Yep – I know.  “Sheesh, Mary, that’s….like…the  most ingenious thing I’ve ever seen!” 😉

———————-

This is a gate card – I’m guessing you figured that out – with the Watermelon Wonder 1″ Dotted Lace Ribbon holding the card closed.  The recipient would get it like you see in the first picture, then untie the bow…

…and it looks way more sedate and Melanie-esque!  I just tucked the ribbon behind the card for that photo – it’s actually adhered to the back of the card with just a few dabs of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue!

I started by cutting my Watermelon Wonder card base.  It’s a piece of card stock cut to 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ – then scored and folded at 2 1/8″ and 6 3/8″.  I used my Simply Scored board for that.

Then I built the panels on the front.  Each side is identical.  I matted Mossy Meadow card stock on Blushing Bride.  The top layer is a piece of Whisper White card stock – I stamped it all over many many many times with the little dots stamp in the Birthday Blooms stamp set.  This was done in Crumb Cake ink – that I stamped off three times before I stamped the card stock.

Across the top and the bottom, I stamped the hearts border in Blushing Bride.  Then I lightly sponged the edges with Blushing Bride ink.  At this point, I knew I was going to make the little tea cup die cut for the art piece and I knew I was going to rim the top with my Gold Wink of Stella Glitter Brush.  So, I edged each of the Whisper White panels with the Gold Wink.  I SNAILd all the panels pieces together and then to the card base.

For the circular piece, I SNAILd a Mossy Meadow Circles Collection circle to a Blushing Bride 2 1/2″ Circle Punch mat and then to a Gold Metallic Foil Doily.  The tea cup is the result of several die cuts – all from the fun Cups & Kettles Thinlits Die set.  I cut the teacup from the Birthday Bouquet DSP.  I thought it looked like a china teacup that resided in my grandmother’s hutch for my entire childhood – and is now, I think, in my mom’s hutch!  And it had that little gold rim, so…. 🙂

I added a little depth to the teacup by sponging lightly around the edges with Blushing Bride and then added that Gold Wink of Stella rim.  I cut the tea bag tag from a tiny scrap of another of the designs in the Birthday Bouquet DSP, and added a Watermelon Wonder heart – cut with my Hearts Border Punch – with some Liquid Glue.  Then I stapled a short length of Blushing Bride Baker’s Twine to the tag and taped the other end behind the teacup.

The spoon handle is cut from a piece of Silver Foil sheet and the “steam” is the die cut from Cups & Kettle, cut in Watermelon Wonder.  I adhered the spoon to the Mossy Meadow circle with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue, popped the teacup and “tea bag” on with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and finally stuck the “steam” on with more of the Liquid Glue!

I used some Liquid Glue on a portion of the bag of the art work, and adhered it just the right panel of the card base.

Have a Nice Cups and Kettle 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers

On the inside, on a piece of Whisper White card stock, I reprised the Birthday Bloom hearts in Blushing Bride, sponged the edges with Blushing Bride ink, and edged it with the Gold Wink of Stella Glitter Brush.  Then I added the Birthday Blooms sentiment in Mossy Meadow, and a stamped-off-once Watermelon Wonder “steam” heart from the A Nice Cuppa stamp set (which I, of course, bought as a bundle an saved 15%!).

Have a Cups and Kettle 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I SNAILd the panel to a Mossy Meadow mat and then to a Blushing Bride mat and added it into my card with SNAIL.

Using little dots of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue, I adhered the Watermelon Wonder 1″ Dotted Lace Ribbon on the back of the largest panel of the card, and tied my bow (jauntily and saucily!) next to my tea cup!  And the card was done.

For the envelope, I decorated the front of a Whisper White Medium Envelope with a single Watermelon Wonder “steam” heart (stamped full strength!)….

…and then gave the inside a liner of Birthday Bouquet DSP, cutting it with my Envelope Liner Framelit!

Et Voila!  Scarlett meets Melanie meets Belle….  I think it’s a fun card!  And I hope that you think so, too. 🙂

Or….WHO IS OUR BLOG CANDY WINNER?!?!

We had a few entries for the Blog Candy – and a whole bunch of folks who want the Botanical Bundle to make it into the Annual Catalog.  Like….that was the winner by a quite long shot!  Hope Stampin’ Up! is reading my blog!

And now….Drum roll, please……

The Random Number Generator yielded comment #7:

Blog Candy Winner on 15 Mar 16

Comment #7 belonged to Karen L!  Congratulations!!!  Karen wrote:

“Have you maybe thought that maybe your cactus is an Easter Cactus? I had one, a long time ago that someone told me it was an Easter not a Christmas Cactus……had something to do with the leaf shape. It bloomed beautifully in the spring, usually around Easter so I went along with that thought. I no longer have it…..”gifted” it to a neighbor when we moved. Just a thought!

Blog candy entry……I hope that they carry over “Balloon Celebration Bundle”…….I like the balloons & with the punch it makes it quick to have a bunch of balloons for a cute card. I really would like to see “Party Pants” & “Sky is the Limit” from SAB to carry over…….you can only spend so many $50’s when you need to put the brakes on!! Know what I mean??

Thanks for the chance at a great blog candy gift. Happy Spring!!

Karen L.”
