Stampin’ Up! Pretty Birthday Blossoms and a Horse Health Update!

Good morning!  Hope you enjoyed your “extra” hour. 🙂

First of all – thanks to the folks that were kind enough to ask after the health of my old horse, Bo.  I’m happy to say that he appears to be – if not out of the woods – at least half way thru.  We spent Saturday on “poop watch”.  Yes, the life of horse owners is a romantic and glamorous one!  We kept all his food from him, with the exception of some gruel.  Quite literally warm water with some feed added and allowed to pretty much dissolve.  And only a little food – and a lot of water!  He was less than thrilled – Saturday morning he was “over it” and hungry.  But, gruel and outside grazing was all he got.  He finally presented us with the “prize” around 2 – after we’d pulled the whole group back into their stalls.  Yes – the girls had to come in, too.  Bo quite fancies himself the “stallion” of the herd.  Or the Quarterback – with the ladies as his cheerleaders!  And he’s not at all interested in them being elsewhere.  So….in they came, too.  (They very kindly allow him his fantasies!)

By “dinner” time – he was looking askance at us when we’d come to the barn (checking for more deposits).  I’m pretty sure he was thinking we’d lost our brains.  We spent the morning sitting out in the pasture, watching for the pooping, and occasionally going and listening to his belly with the stethoscope.  I told you – colic is a big deal in horse world.  But all the weirdness was making them all watch us pretty closely.  Just in case we’d lost it – a pony can never be too careful!

So – I think we’re good.  If we go thru this day with no more symptoms – he had none at all yesterday – we should be back to business as usual. 🙂

Card.  Yes.  I finally did make a card.  I used one of my new toys tools – a lovely set called Birthday Blossoms, from the Annual Catalog.  And, it’s a super clean and simple card, using only the single stamp set – and not an embossing folder or framelit to be found (so, no Big Shot required!).  Take a look-see:

Birthday Blossoms 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers

This is on a Whisper White Notecard – so it’s a small card.  I started by using my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig (seriously, if you don’t have this sweet tool, you need to get one – it is SO handy!) to stamp the Birthday Blossoms into each corner of a Whisper White card stock panel, in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  I used the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig again to stamp the sentiment – also from Birthday Blossoms – in Elegant Eggplant, in the center of the panel.

Birthday Blossoms 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I colored the blossoms using my Blender Pens and the tops of three ink pads (you know this trick, right?  Where you press the lid and the pad together with the lid closed, and when you open it, you’ve transferred ink to the inside of the lid.  Then you can pick the ink up with your Blender Pen or an Aqua Pen.)  I started with Daffodil Delight for the centers and the first part of the petals.  Then Tempting Turquoise for the middle section of the petals. Finally, I added Elegant Eggplant to the ends of the petals – also allowing it to go around most of the petals.  I was going for a Violets or Violas look.  What do you think?

Birthday Blossoms 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I SNAILd the Whisper White panel to a mat of Daffodil Delight, and then popped it on the front of my Whisper White Notecard with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  I added a few Rhinestone Basic Jewels to the centers of the flowers – cause clean and simple doesn’t have to mean dowdy!! 😉

And the front was done!

Birthday Blossoms 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers

On the inside, I stamped a second sentiment from Birthday Blossoms in Elegant Eggplant.  Then I stamped it again on a scrap piece of paper – I used a scrap of Envelope Paper, it’s nice and thin for a mask! – and cut it out with my snips.

I laid my mask over the stamped sentiment inside my card, and then stamped the large flower image in Tuxedo Black over it.

Birthday Blossoms 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I used my Blender Pen and the Elegant Eggplant to highlight the lines in the flower image and that was it!

My matching envelope was very simply decorated with a few more of the large flower images, stamped in Elegant Eggplant.

Birthday Blossoms 6 - Stamps-N-Lingers

Et Voila!  Easy peasy, quick and breezy!

I hope you had a safe and quiet – and fun! – Halloween.  Which means it’s November – which means Thanksgiving and Christmas are….like….tomorrow.  Yikes!

  1. Very pretty card Mary, love the clean and simple look. Your flowers turned out beautifully! 🙂 So happy to hear that things are looking good for your horse. Spending the day watching for poop sounds very exciting…at least it didn’t rain on you all day. 🙂

  2. Mom

    Good news from the barn.
And the card is lovely. Simplicity is a good thing now and then.

  3. Pretty card Mary, I think that stamp is my favorite flower stamp right now and you did an awesome job with it on today’s card.
