Good morning and happy Friday! If you’ve been in Helene’s path – I hope this finds you okay. Or as okay as you can be. I’m typing this on Friday night and we’re expecting her to hit here sometime in the early morning hours. We’re as ready as we can be – the pony is in the barn – she’s not going to like the noise but…she should be safe. We’ll see what we see in the morning!
My card today is not even sort of scary or worrisome like hurricanes! It features a cute penguin and a pine tree from the Snow Wonder bundle – and some fun paper from the coordinating Snowy Scenes DSP. AND – it’s a super cool fun fold – called a double gate card! Take a look-see:
You’ll see this card – along with the other Design Team members’ cards – at this week’s Creative Creases Challenge! We’re all about the fun folds and I hope you’ll come and join us – we would LOVE for you to share YOUR fun fold creations with us!
I got this card idea from my friend and teammate, Tara Carpenter, and I loved it so much I warned her I was going to shamelessly steal the fold. And so – I did! 🙂
I started with a 5 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ piece of Poppy Parade cardbase that I scored on the long side at 1/2″, 2 5/8″, 6 7/8″ and 9″. Using Paper Snips, I cut on the 1/2″ and the 9″ score lines to make two tabs.
I folded the two inner score lines “in” and the two tabs “out”.
Using Liquid Glue, I adhered two different designs from the Snowy Scenes DSP on the inside panels of the card base.
On the front of the card, I matted two pieces of holly-strewn paper from Snowy Scenes on Petal Pink cardstock and then used Liquid Glue to adhere them to the two panels on the front.
For the small gate fold piece, I scored a 3″ x 10 5/8″ piece of Poppy Parade cardstock at 2 1/8″, 4 1/4″, 6 3/8″ and 8 1/2″. I folded the two “outer” score lines “out” and the two inner score lines “in”.
On a small piece of Basic White cardstock, I stamped a Snowy Wonder sentiment in Poppy Parade ink. Then I added some snowflakes in Pool Party and a couple of little trees in Shaded Spruce.
I used Liquid Glue to adhere the panel to a Petal Pink mat and adhered it to the center panel of the small gate fold.
I matted four small panels of Snowy Scenes DSP on Petal Pink and adhered them to the remaining inside panels of the small gate mechanism.
For the front panel, I die cut a tree and a penguin from the Snowy Scenes DSP. Then I used Paper Snips to fussy cut a little hat (I chose a Poppy Parade hat for this one – but the video penguin has a Pool Party hat!). I adhered the hat to the penguin with a little Liquid Glue and then adhered them to the front panel with more Liquid Glue.
On a piece of Basic White cardstock, I stamped another sentiment in Poppy Parade and then matted it on Petal Pink. I adhered it to the front panel with Liquid Glue.
Then I used little dots of Liquid Glue to adhere a bunch of White Loose Snowflakes – persnickety, but SO worth it!
To assemble the card – I folded the small gate portion and, using Liquid Glue on the back of the center panel (the one with the sentiment), I adhered it to the center of the back panel of the card base.
Then I opened the card base all the way and put Liquid Glue on each of the tabs. I opened each side of the gate all the way and adhered them to the tabs.
Yes. Yes it IS easier to see than to read so…check the video! 🙂
My Basic White Medium Envelope got the fun tree from the Snow Wonder set in Shaded Spruce on the front…
…and some more of the Snowy Scenes DSP on the envelope flap.
Et Voila! Well – I LOVE this fun fold, don’t you!? It’s pretty easy once you see the mechanics of it – and it really lets fun papers like the Snowy Scenes DSP shine! And that DSP is even more fun – since the dies from the Snow Wonder bundle CUT OUT the cute images! Boom! And it has fun sentiments AND a ton of cute images, to boot!
I hope you like!

Such a cute card Mary! Love the mix of designer papers and that penguin is so sweet! Poor Finn…so little time to decide and such big decisions to make. 😉
Yes – it’s weighing heavy on his mind! Deep thoughts – weighty decisions. You know how it goes! Thanks, Amy! 🙂
Praying all are safe this morning…🙏🙏🙏
Thanks, Mom – all is well! 🙂
Wow, what a card. Beautiful.
I know, Finn, it’s hard to pick out a favorite and
leave the others behind. They will be lonely.
have a great time in Colorao, I used to live near
Grand Junction, Colorado. The weather is great and
the fall leaves are beautiful.
Yes! Fall is lovely in Colorado for sure. Hoping we don’t get an early blizzard, though! Thanks, Mary Katherine! 🙂
it was really fun watching you put that card together! Great design for sure!
Finn-y loves ALL his toys….sad to leave ANY behind….
I know – I try to tell him it’s only for a little while and that they’ll be fine. He’s not really buying that one…LOL! Thanks Faith! 🙂
I have been watching the wheather channel dilegently and hoping you and your husband and Fynn are safe and warm from this horrible storm. I can’t believe it came as far north as it did and still so strong. I pray you all came through it safely.
Susan
Thanks, Susan – yes – it was really odd how far inland it came – I’m grateful it shifted east and avoided giving us a direct hit! Thank you so much! 🙂
This is a great fun fold card. Love it as a Christmas design. Hope everything is ok in your area with the hurricane
Thanks so much, Mary! Yes – we’re fine – the storm shifted east and so we didn’t get a direct hit. A lot of rain and some wind but nothing too awful! Thank you for asking! 🙂
What a great holiday card, Mary! I love the winged gatefold style and the papers are so festive! Happy to hear that you came through the hurricane well. I checked on my family and they had lots of rain but no damage from the winds. Have a great weekend!
PS. I am having some issues posting this comment so it’s a duplicate, feel free to delete!
Thanks, Debbie – I’m so glad that your family fared okay, too. It was a booger for a lot of people! Appreciate the kind words! 🙂
