Stampin’ Up! Easter Message Dogwood

Happy Hawwmp Day, y’all!  How’s things?

My card today draws from one of my two favorite trees in the world – the Dogwood.  At this time of year, our dogwoods are in full, spectacular bloom.  And, against all the green of the woods, they look like white Christmas lights glowing.

I love them.  And cherish the time they’re blooming each year – always grateful when I get to be home while they’re doing their thing.  And, since they make their big showing just about in time for Easter, I figured I’d play off that today.  I used the Easter Message stamp set and the Bunch of Blossoms stamp set and matching punch.  Take a look-see:

The layout for this one is from The Paper Players this week.

And the colors were inspired by the Stamp Ink Paper challenge.

I started with a piece of the chalkboard-y paper from the Urban Underground Specialty DSP and stamped the lily from the Easter Message stamp set in Whisper White Craft Ink around the edges of the paper.  When it dried – and that takes a few minutes and maybe some help with the Heat Tool! – I used my Pear Pizzazz and Pink Pirouette Stampin’ Write Markers and went over the white images – creating a colored chalk effect.

I adhered a Lace Doily with the Very Vanilla side up with some Liquid Glue.  Next, I cut a Stitched Shapes circle from Very Vanilla and a Circles Layering Framelits scalloped circle from Elegant Eggplant, adhered them together and then adhered them to the card front, overlapping the doily.

My central art piece is from the This Christmas DSP (I kind of liked the symmetry to using a Christmas paper here!).  I inked the Cross from Easter Message in Versamark and then inked it with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and stamped the DSP panel.  Then I sprinkled it with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed the image.  Using the black under the Gold Embossing Powder kind of “antiqued” the gold.  Then I SNAILd the panel to an Elegant Eggplant mat.

I used Blender Pens and the ink from the lids of my ink pads to color the image.  The vestment is colored with Elegant Eggplant, the rope at the juncture of the timbers in Soft Suede and the Cross itself in Early Espresso.  When it was all colored, I popped it on the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

The sentiment is from Easter Message and is stamped in Elegant Eggplant on a Very Vanilla strip that I snipped into a banner.  I used Stampin’ Dimensionals on both ends and some Liquid Glue in the center of the strip to adhere it to the card front.

The dogwood blossom is made with the small petal image in the Bunch of Blossoms stamp set – stamped in Pink Pirouette on Very Vanilla and then punched with the Blossom Builder Punch.

(Note:  these two items are available in a bundle for a 10% savings.  If this stamp set and punch carry over into the 2017-2018 Annual Catalog, the bundled price will go away.  So – if you like it, grab it now!).

I used a Sponge Dauber to add some more Pink Pirouette around the edges, curled the petals a little with my Stylus and then adhered them into their “cross” shape with Liquid Glue.  I made the center with stamped-off-once Pear Pizzazz and then added the stamens with the Pear Pizzazz Stampin’ Write Marker.  The center is popped onto the flower with a Stampin’ Dimensional.

I admit I got a little ate up about this blossom, y’all.  Not even gonna tell you how many of them I made before I got this one.  Let’s just say it was several more than “one”!

Using a couple of Glue Dots, I wound some Gold Metallic Thread around behind the flower, adhered it to the sentiment banner with Liquid Glue and the card front was done.

On the inside, I added the second sentiment from Easter Message in Elegant Eggplant on a Whisper White panel.  Over the top of that, I stamped the lily in stamped-off-once Smoky Slate ink.

I SNAILd the panel to an Elegant Eggplant mat and then into a Basic Black card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

My Very Vanilla Medium Envelope got another of the stamped-off-once Smoky Slate lily from Easter Message on the front…

…and added a little more of the musical paper from the This Christmas DSP to the envelope flap.

Et Voila!  I think Easter Message is the prettiest stamp set – with simple, gorgeous images and perfectly perfect sentiments.  Easter is approaching quickly, so be sure this one is in your tool chest, okay?  Hope you like!

FINN-FAN FIX….

Well, folks.  It’s happened.

The pond-bee has been drowned-ed.

Turns out that, while the pond-bee will, indeed, float….that’s not necessarily a guarantee against drowning.

If the retriever of the pond-bee gets distracted – it happens! – then…

Finn dropped the pond-bee.  Then he bounced off to check out something he saw out in the pond.

A stick.  Looked like a big one.

See it out there?  About 2 feet beyond his schnozzle?  He’s as far as he can go and still touch the bottom.  And he was stuck there!

I don’t think he’ll stay stuck for long.  I’m betting we’re not too many days away from actually swimming!

Once he realized he couldn’t get the stick – today! – he remembered the pond-bee.

And bounced back over to it – and pounced on it.

Weeeeellll….turns out if you pounce the pond-bee flat down into the mud…

Yea.  You can’t get it.

You can sort of see it there – middle of the picture.

We may see it again when the pond level goes down.

In the meantime, guess I need to hit Pet Smart and find another $2 frisbee! 😉

Stampin’ Up! Botanical Easter Message

Mornin’, y’all and Happy Hawmmp Day!!  Hope your week is going well!

We’re nearing the end of Sale-A-Bration.  Don’t miss out on the goodies you’ve been wanting, nor the opportunity to join my team and get up to $200 worth of product for just $99!  With no obligation whatsoever!

Just sayin….

My card for today is looking forward a few weeks to Easter, to give you time to realize you need this stamp set!  It’s the Easter Message set, and it’s gorgeous, especially combined with some Botanical Builder flowers and Falling in Love DSP.  Take a look-see

I used the Sunday Stamps Challenge for my layout.

I started out by SNAILing a piece of Falling in Love DSP to a Sweet Sugarplum mat.  Then I wrapped some Linen Thread around the card front a few times, securing it in the back with scotch tape.

For the banner, I used a piece of Whisper White card stock and cut a banner end in it with my Paper Snips.  I added some Crumb Cake “stitches” around the banner with a Stampin’ Write Marker.  Then, using the frond image in the Easter Message stamp set, I stamped the banner all over in stamped-off-once Pear Pizzazz.  Then I popped it on the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I started the sentiment circle by cutting a Stitched Shapes circle in Whisper White.  Then, using my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig, I stamped the sentiment from Easter Message in Sweet Sugarplum near the bottom of the circle.  Next to it, I added the Easter Lily image in Crumb Cake.

I colored the lily with my Blender Pen, using Pink Pirouette for the flower and Pear Pizzazz for the leaves and stem.

I cut a scalloped circle mat in Sweet Sugarplum using a die in the Circles Layering Framelits and adhered it to the banner with Liquid Glue

I pulled out the Botanical Builder Framelits and first cut two Pear Pizzazz fronds.  I adhered them to the banner with Liquid Glue.  Over that, I popped the sentiment circle with Stampin’ Dimensionals, offsetting it from the scalloped mat.

I made some flowers out of Whisper White card stock with the dies from the Botanical Builder.  All of them got a little light sponging with Pink Pirouette.  And I lightly rounded two of the flowers.  Then I used Liquid Glue and Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere them to the banner and card front.

I gave each flower a Pink Pirouette Enamel Shape, then added a tiny Linen Thread bow with a dab of Liquid Glue.  To finish it off, I added a small row of tiny Pearl Basic Embellishments under the sentiment and one in each lily, and the card front was done.

On the inside, I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to position the Cross from the Easter Message set.  I stamped it in the middle of a Whisper White panel, stamping it off once, first.  Over that, again with the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig, I added the sentiment in Sweet Sugarplum.

I SNAILd the panel to a Sweet Sugarplum mat and into my Crumb Cake card base, popped the card front on with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the card was done.

My Whisper White Medium Envelope got another Easter Message lily on the front, colored the same as the one on the front of the card…

…and I gave the envelope flap more of the stamped-off-once Pear Pizzazz fronds.

Et Voila!  I think this is such a pretty stamp set, with a simply perfect sentiment.  And the images are simple and sweet and…perfect, too.  Hope you like!

FINN-FAN FIX….

It rained over night and this morning.  So it was wet – and colder than a well-diggers lunch bucker this morning.  Finn and I did a couple of laps and then I just flat had to go in the tack room to warm up.

Finn was – as you might imagine – a little damp.

As in… his skirt (that’s what I call his hangy-down belly fur) and his pantaloons were dripping wet and sporting a fine coat of mud.

So when I sat down in the chair to warm up while we waited for the horses to finish eating…my interest in some lap time was pretty low.

He used all his Finn-Charm on me.  Played the guilt card pretty well.  I managed to hang tough, but….it was hard.

When we finally got into the house, he was apparently exhausted by the effort.

Cold and rainy day.  Full belly.  Denied lap time.  What else is a guy to do?!?

Stampin’ Up! Vintage Leaves Petal Burst Peace

Monday Monday.  Again again.  Hmm.  It’s no wonder that wasn’t the song lyric…

This morning, my card share is so easy and so simple.  And when something is this simple and easy to do, one needs to execute it perfectly.  Or – since there’s no such thing as “perfect” (well, except for the Fifth Element, of course!), as close to perfect as we mere mortals can achieve.  Which…sometimes makes it nearly impossible to do at all!

About a 1000 years ago, before color tv and….gasp!….cell phones…I rode American Saddlebred horses.  I thought they were the most beautiful thing on the planet.  Still do!  Anyway – I rode Saddleseat Equitation – and when we’d go to horse shows, the competition was about the rider – not the horse.  At that time – and probably still, even though she’s gone to the great show ring in the sky – the acknowledged Queen of Saddleseat Equitation was Helen Crabtree.

In her book, she told of one of the thousands of riders she judged at horse shows who, when directed to approach her and tell her what she planned to do (everyone had to go execute a maneuver – all by themselves – at one end of the arena) trotted up (on her perfectly trained, $10,000 horse, heels perfectly down, chin up, hands in the exact right position) and informed the judge that she was going to…

“…go to the end of the arena and execate a figure oot.” 😉

Of course she meant execute a figure eight.  One of the most simple and straightforward of the possible maneuvers.  The poor kid was no doubt trying to speak past the cotton mouth nerves of being the center of attention in the giant arena.

And no  – that wasn’t me!

Why tell this story?  Cuz…this card today is the card equivalent of a figure eight at the end of the arena.  The biggest difference is that this isn’t impossible to do at all – it’s super easy!  It calls on Vintage Leaves, the Petal Burst TIEF, and the Christmas Greetings Thinlits.  Very Vanilla and Night of Navy.  A little copper.  And that’s it.

Simple.  Elegant.  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Botanical Easter Cross

Good Easter morn’ to you all!  Rejoice in this day! 🙂

I have an Easter Cross card to share today – but it’s a bit of a cautionary tale!  It could be titled: Check Supplies Twice Before Beginning.  Or: Always Finish Your Card Front First.  And the main character in this decidedly NON-fiction tale is….Gold Foil.  You’ll see why shortly!

I used several flower makers for this card – the Botanical Builder Framelits, Petite Petals punch flowers and Itty Bitty Accent Punch Pack flowers.  And I went back to the In The Meadow stamp set.  Just a reminder – this set is in the Occasions catalog – and is only guaranteed active thru the end of the sale period – 31 May.  Which seems like a long way away – until you realize it’s practically APRIL!  Can you even believe that??  So if you’re wanting this lovely stamp set, get it soon!

Anyway – take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Friends & Flowers Easter Bunny

Good morning – Friday morning!  Another weekend approacheth!  And this weekend signals the return to Daylight Savings Time!     Yeah!!  The days will start to get longer – I love DST!

Before we dive into the card for today, I wanted to show you a quick pic – of my two little fur-kids!

Katy and Leo - Stamps-N-Lingers

That’s Leo glaring at the camera – and that’s his sister, Katy, curled up with him in their favorite chair.  Why is this a great picture?  Because just a few days ago, Leo was hissing and spitting at his sister – like any time she walked into the same room!  Apparently, she smelled of THE BAD PLACE! (That’s the vet…)  And he DID. NOT. LIKE. IT!

Apparently, she’s now smelling more like his sister again and so he’ll allow her to be in his space once again.  Peace is restored.  All is right in the fur-kid world!

The end.

Now, on to my project for today.  As we get closer to Easter, it seemed like a good idea to make an Easter Card.  Duh!  And the Occasions stamp set called Friends & Flowers seemed like the way to go.  I added in a little Flowering Fields and….take a look-see:

Into the Forest

A week or so ago marked a sad anniversary in the life of one of my very best friends.  So, I needed and wanted to send something to let her know that….I knew it was a hard week for her, and that I was thinking of and praying for her.  One of the very best parts about being a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator is having pretty immediate access to a number of really excellent tools for making nearly any kind of card, to fill nearly any need.  And this was no exception.  I pulled out my Thoughts and Prayers stamp set and, since my friend is outdoorsy and loves the woods and the forest, my stack of Adventure Bound DSP.  And in that stack I found the perfect card front.  When I added some vellum…it became perfect in the extreme.  Take a look-see:

In the Forest Outside 1 watermarked

The photo-quality picture of the forest was lovely as it was, but I feel like it became something other-worldly with the addition of the vellum over the top.  It’s a perfect misty morning, with the sun shining down; the kind of morning that sometimes gives me a lump in the throat and always makes me remember to send a little prayer of thanks upstairs.

But, I digress.  I SNAIL’d the DSP to a piece of Crushed Curry Card Stock and then used my Handheld Stapler to adhere the vellum over the piece of the DSP.  Doesn’t get much simpler than that, does it? 🙂

For the sentiment, I inked up the stamp from the Thoughts and Prayers set with Versamark, stamped it on a circle of Mossy Meadow CS and sprinkled it with Crushed Curry Emboss Powder, which I then heat embossed.  I SNAIL’d that circle onto a slightly larger Crushed Curry circle – that I’d sponged with Mossy Meadow ink.

In the Forest Outside 2 watermarked

The banner under the sentiment is just the bottom part of the DSP that I’d cut off to create the correct size for the card front.  I used my Hexagon punch to make the banner ends, and then SNAIL’d it to the vellum.  The sentiment circle layer is popped on with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  I put the entire layered front onto a Mossy Meadow card base with some more Dimensionals….And the front was done!  Yes, you read me right – done.  And not a pearl to be seen!  gasp!

In the Forest Outside 3 watermarked

The inside got a strip of the DSP – again “harvested” when I cut the paper down to size – not a piece was wasted…too pretty! I first adhered it to another piece of Crushed Curry CS.  I SNAIL’d it to some Whisper White CS and then stamped the inside sentiment in Crushed Curry.  Then I decided to play with it a little bit more and did some sponging with Mossy Meadow – just to give it a little depth.

In the Forest Inside watermarked

And the card was done.  In about two shakes, really.  The Adventure Bound DSP offers so many opportunities for quick cards – that are still just gorgeous.  Quick doesn’t mean not-beautiful!  And, when a card is quick AND beautiful, it encourages us (well, me, at least!) to make some cards ahead of when I might need to have one.  Almost like…thinking ahead.  Anti-procrastinating.  Crazy!

So – that’s it!  Hope that you enjoyed my share for you today!

Today and Tomorrow.  Might ought to be a song title – but, in fact, it’s how much time is left to cash in on Sale-A-Bration AND my Free Shipping Weekend.  To give you one last shot at Sale-A-Bration deals, I’m extending my free shipping deal to match SAB – so, it’s good on any order over $50 (before taxes and shipping) placed thru about 5pm West Coast Time tomorrow (31 Mar).   See details on how to get the free shipping here.

To help you choose some great items, this week’s Weekly Deal are still good thru tonight.  There are some really fun things this week – so don’t miss out!  And don’t overlook how handy that Adventure Bound DSP is!

Hope to hear from a bunch of you that you’ve placed an order and reeled in some free stash! 🙂

Happy Easter and How To Set Up Shop in a Hotel Room!

Happy Stampers Blog Hop Banner

Hello – and welcome to the Happy Stampers Blog Hop for March.  Our theme today is Spring or Easter and….organizing and storing your crafting supplies.  I decided to do an Easter project for you and, since I’m not actually at home….I’m going to show you my crafting-area-away-from-crafting-area in the hotel.  It’s not gorgeous, but it works!  A bunch of us are sharing with you today, so be sure to check out their blogs when you’re done here.  And, in the spirit of blog hops everywhere (and chocolate-filled Easter Baskets!) – we’ve all got a little blog candy to give away, too!

So, settle in – get you a cuppa something hot, and let’s get started.  I saw a card on Pinterest with a technique that intrigued me, so that was my starting point today.  I used the beautiful Indescribable Gift stamp set and I kept the card quite clean and simple.  Take a look-see:

Happy Easter Outside 1 watermarked

I cut an oval from a piece of Whisper White card stock with my new Ovals Framelit Dies.  This piece I adhered – very lightly with a little dab o’ SNAIL – to another piece of the white card stock.  I didn’t want it permanently stuck down yet – just needed it to hold still while I stamped and colored it.  Then, I inked up the pretty flower image with Blackberry Bliss Ink, and stamped it on the layered piece – making sure to get the stamp part way on and part way off the oval.  That’s total permission to go OUTSIDE the lines!

With my image stamped, I colored it in with my new Stampin’ Write Markers.  I used Sahara Sand on the branches; Pink Pirouette, Blushing Bride and Calypso Coral on the flowers; Wild Wasabi and Pear Pizzazz on the leaves; and some Daffodil Delight for the stamen in the open flowers.  I was really worried that without the Blendabilities, it would be awfully difficult to get the shading and blending that I wanted. But, I just worked kind of quickly and in small areas – and I think it turned out quite pretty!

You can see from the picture above that to permanently adhere the oval, I used SU Dimensionals.  I love the 3-dimensional look it gave the card! I SNAIL’d the layered art piece to a mat of Wild Wasabi CS (love the Blackberry Bliss combo with the Wild Wasabi!) and then wrapped a strand of the velvet “ribbon” from the Artisan Embellishment Kit (Occasions Catalog) around it twice, securing it in the back with some tape.  I debated a little bow, and decided against it – I like the kind of tailored look of the plain ribbon.  I decorated the largest flower center with a tiny Pearl Basic Jewel and popped the entire piece onto the Blackberry Bliss card base with some more Dimensionals – and the front was done!

The inside got a piece of Whisper White card stock, that I stamped in Blackberry Bliss with the Indescribable Gift sentiment and another image of the flowers.  Then I colored in this flower the same way I did the front.  And that was it.  Done!

And then… I made a fateful mistake.  I decided it was time to have a little lunch.  So, I carefully placed my lovely card into my “photo booth” – you’ll see a picture of it down below – and got myself a little bowl of ramen noodles.  I returned to my spot on the sofa – the photo booth was on the table next to said sofa.  As I was going to sit down, the fork in the ramen bowl…flipped.  I promise, it did a double half-gainer, twist with a curl, and then a backwards somersault – the Russian judge gave it a 10!  And where do you suppose it ended up?  Yup.  It flew OVER the side of the “photo booth” and landed inside.  Smack.  Dab.  On.  My.  Beautiful. Card.  Ramen noodles.  On my card.  And I can tell you what, folks – there ain’t no getting that off.  No way no how.  So – the pretty card you see in this post is actually the SECOND iteration.  I said “Golly!” a few times. If you catch my drift!

Anyway – note to self.  “Photo Booth” and card must be VERY far from Mary and food.  I have a similar issue with t-shirts, but…that’s a ‘nother story!  I think the card turned out very nice the second time, too!

So – on to the second part of our hop for today.  As you all know, I’ve been on an extended business trip for a while now – and will be for a while longer!  But, I just could NOT bear the thought of not being able to stamp and make cards and blog while I was gone.  So….I boxed up all my Stampin’ Up! supplies – yes, even the Big Shot (don’t leave home without it!) – and mailed it all to myself at the hotel.  When I walked into the room, here’s what I had to work with:

Hotel Before craft area 1 watermarked Hotel Before Crafting area 2 watermarked

Well, that’s a nice spot to eat a little bite of dinner – but it’s sure no crafting spot!  I went down to the front desk and asked them if they had a banquet table that I could borrow for my time here.  The next day, when I got home from work, I had the exact thing I was looking for.  I spent a few minutes unpacking and arranging and re-arranging and organizing and….here’s what I’m working with now:

Hotel crafting area 2 watermarked Hotel Crafting area 1 watermarked

It’s not too bad, really.  If I could change something, I’d have a desk chair that rolls – that would make it easier to turn around for my “stuff” behind me while I’m working.  But, it’s okay!  You can see my “photo booth” on the left side in the bright light.  Here’s what it looks like:

Photo Booth watermarked

It’s just a few pieces of white card stock, taped together, with my Ott Lite over the top of it.  Actually, I use the same setup at home – but I have two Ott Lites there.  I didn’t want to try to ship both of them. (I got this “photo booth” idea from Amy Koenders’ blog – thanks, Amy!) Just beware – it is NOT up to the challenge of ramen noodles.  Just sayin’.

Here’s what I store my stuff in – I have one for ink pads, embossing folders/dies and for embellishments.  It’s an ever-renewing resource at my house/hotel…..

Boscotti watermarked

Works pretty good – has a lid.  Doesn’t travel well – “lost” one in the transition from home to hotel.  Sadly, that means I’ll be forced to keep eating a biscotti with my morning coffee.  Darn the luck! 😉

So there you have it.  I have great aspirations to a beautiful crafting room with oodles and boodles of perfectly organized storage from Ikea and Stampin’ Up and http://www.stampnstorage.com.  But for now, I have my SU! things and a place to use them – I’m good! 🙂

We’re down to the wire for Sale-A-Bration folks – don’t miss out!  SAB ends next Tuesday, 31 Mar!  You can see a final update from my latest blog post from last Tuesday here.

BLENDABILITIES DISCONTINUED

You’ve been reading that the Blendies have been on ordering hold, due to quality issues in manufacturing. Due to the nature of the defect, Stampin’ Up! has concluded that difficulties, dissatisfaction, and product returns will only become more widespread. The manufacturer is unable to correct the problem in a manner the company is certain would meet our high quality standards and provide us with a stable, long-term solution. Therefore, after a great deal of deliberation and in order to prevent further disappointment, the Blendabilities product line has been discontinued. If you have Blendabilities that you feel are defective, please let me know and I’ll guide you through what to do next. Hopefully SU will find a new source for alcohol markers – you’ll know just as soon as I do!
