Stampin’ Up! Dandy Garden Memories & More Card Pack Sneak Peek!

Good morning and HAPPY HAWWMP DAY!

Also?  Happy Thanksgiving Day-eve. 🙂  I wish I could tell you we’re looking forward to dinner with our friends tomorrow – but…I decided on Tuesday that the risk-reward analysis just didn’t work out in favor of getting together in person. 🙁  I think we need to be cautious for a little while longer – and hope that things are a little less scary at Christmas.  We’re still going to share our sides – we’ll meet and have a handoff somewhere in full hazmat or something….  And may try to Zoom.

Danged COVID! 🙁

Sigh….

Well.  With all that – I decided a quick and fun and EASY card was in order – and I figured you might like a little sneak peek at the new Dandy Garden Memories & More Card Pack – with the matching (and GORGEOUS!!) Dandy Garden Memories & More Cards & Envelopes.  Take a look-see:

Vintage Butterflies (and a little sumpin-sumpin sweet!)

Hello – and welcome to Thursday!  Today marks the TRUE 90day anniversary of the Stamps-N-Lingers blog!  Yeah!  Because it’s a big day (well, to me at least!) and because I can, I’m offering a little bit o’ blog candy today.  Read on to find out the what’s and how’s, okay?

For today’s share, I slipped back into my comfort zone – I went with a total vintage look!  I also used the SAB Sheer Perfection (there’s some sweet foreshadowing for you….) and the ever-so-cool Butterfly Basics bundle.  Take a look-see:

Vintage Butterfly Happy b-day Outside 2 watermarked

I started with a piece of Very Vanilla Card Stock that I cut to size and then tore all the edges.  I added a torn corner and stapled it with my Handheld Stapler.  Then, I used a combination of Soft Suede and Crumb Cake inks to sponge the edges and get that great been-there-done-that-got-left-for-a-few-centuries-in-a-box/tomb/catacomb/cave/dungeon/basement look!  Once I achieved my goal, I SNAIL’d it to my Crushed Curry mat (which I’d also “aged” a bit in the same manner – since “crushed” wasn’t quite old enough curry for me).  Then I got to playing!

Vintage Butterfly B-day outside 3 watermarked

I pulled out my Sheer Perfection Vellum and cut out the large butterfly from the Butterfly Basics Bundle.  This is definitely a combination where you really MUST use your waxed paper between the die and your art paper – or you ain’t NEVER gettin’ that thing outta there!  At least not without tearing the vellum – and you don’t want to do that!  Once I had my flutter-by all cut out, I turned him over and colored the back with my Crumb Cake and Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Markers. Then I set him aside and let him dry.

Meanwhile, I used the other stamps in the Butterfly Basics set, and stamped the ferns in Mossy Meadow and Old Olive – I always stamped off once on scrap paper before I stamped the art piece.  And, I stamped the art piece a couple of times without re-inking.  Then I did the same with the honeycomb stamp in Crushed Curry.  And then, because I could – I took my almost dry Sponge Dauber and burnished the remainder of the piece with the brown (remember it was a combo of Crumb Cake and Soft Suede) ink that was still on the dauber.  Just to suitably subdue everything.  The whole thing got SNAIL’d to an Old Olive Cut and Ready Card Base.

To adhere the butterfly to the art piece, I used a BUNCH of little pieces of SU Dimensionals.  I wanted him to pop – but I needed him to be well supported, too.  So – this was a bit of a persnickety task.  But necessary – and worth the effort! With him stuck down, I added some Pearl Basic Jewels and called him ready.

The sentiment I pulled from the From the Herd set – and I double stamped it in Soft Suede.  I used my SU marker to ink up one piece of the sentiment at a time, and then stamped it on a Very Vanilla CS tag I cut out with my Chalk Talk Framelits.  Then I gave it a few stamps with the Crushed Curry honeycomb and a Soft Suede postage stamp (both from the Butterfly Basics) and aged it up.  Then I popped it onto the front – overlapping the butterfly – with more Dimensionals. The final touch for the front was another barely-there stamped postage mark in Soft Suede, accented with a Crushed Curry button from the Best Year Ever Accessory Pack and a double Linen Thread bow, that I glued on with a tiny dab of Multi-purpose Liquid Glue.  And the front was….done!

On the inside – I started with some Very Vanilla CS, and stamped it with more of the Crushed Curry Honeycombs  and a few Old Olive ferns and some of the butterflies from the SAB Nature’s Perfection set.  And I lightly aged it as well.  The sentiment is in Old Olive and comes from the SAB Simply Wonderful stamp set.

And that completed the card!  I really love this kind of vintage-grungey card myself and I hope that you do, too!

Double the Flutter-by Basics!

Today is my 25th Wedding Anniversary!  Wow – hard to believe I’m old enough to have been married 25 years – and I did NOT get married when I was 15! 😉

Today ALSO marks almost exactly 3 months since I started blogging about Stampin’ Up!- so, it’s kind of a double Anniversary for me!  On my very first blog post on 9 Jan 15, I showed you how to make a triple-matted card.  It used one of my favorite Stampin’ Up! sets – the Ornamental Pine.  For today, I want to show you a similar technique (look here to see several pictures that will show you the stacking technique), this time only using two layers (so, it’s a little quicker to do) and using one of the awesome 2015 Occasions stamp bundles – Butterfly Basics.  But, this technique is universal and could be used with all kinds of image combinations and sentiments.  Take a look-see:

Double Mat Kindness Outside 3 WatermarkedStart out by cutting your neutral mat – which will match your card base.  In this case, I used Perfect Plum.  Then, cut the “art” pieces.  I used one of the soft blue pieces in the Painted Blooms DSP (we get so caught up in the wildly beautiful flower images in this DSP that I think we sometimes lose sight of the very versatile, softer neutral sides – be sure to look on BOTH sides! VBG).  With everything cut, layer the art pieces together with a tiny piece of tape – either double sided or regular rolled in a little tube (you just want it to not be a permanent bond!). In this case, there will only be two pieces of paper stuck together.

Double Mat Kindness Outside 2 Watermarked

I started by stamping the sentiment from the SAB Lotus Blossom set in Blackberry Bliss in the bottom right corner of the smaller of the two pieces (what will become the “top” of the stack). Then, I stamped the flower image – one of the prettiest we have, I think! – in Soft Suede.  I colored the images – and yes, I used my Blendies, because I built this card before they became unavailable.  If you already have them – I used Rich Razzleberry and Wild Wasabi.  If you don’t have Blendies, I’d look at the Stampin’ Write Markers in Blackberry Bliss and Pear Pizzazz.  Perhaps accent the flower with Rich Razzleberry and the leaves with some Mossy Meadow.  Be creative!  Then, in Crushed Curry, I stamped all over with the honeycomb stamps – ensuring that several of the stamps went off the paper.  I also stamped the small butterfly in Blackberry Bliss kind of randomly around the image  and the sentiment. Again, be sure to let some of them go off the edges AND cross over to the bottom paper! And that completed the art piece!

Double Mat Kindness Standing Watermarked

The three pieces are SNAIL’d together (just be sure to keep the art pieces in the same orientation as when you stamped them) and then wrapped twice with a piece of the Painted Blooms Thick Twine (again from the Occasions catalog) that was finished with a little bow.  I’m getting so used to making bows – at least with twine (LOL) – that I almost make excuses to use one these days.  (Okay – maybe not all THAT far – but I’m sure not worried about making one anymore!)  The whole front was then popped onto the card front with Dimensionals.  A punched butterfly (Butterfly Basics stamp in Blackberry Bliss, punched with the Bitty Butterfly Punch), embellished with some Pearl Basic Jewels, is adhered to one of the stamped flutter-by’s with a glue dot.  One final pearl, right in the center of the flower – and the front was done!

Double Mat Kindness Outside Closeup Watermarked

I used more of the Painted Blooms DSP on the inside, stamping the edge with a few Crushed Curry Honeycombs and a little flock of butterflies (did you know that a group of butterflies can be called a swarm, rabble, kaleidoscope, or flutter?!? LOVE the idea of a flutter-of-butterflies!)  These, as well as the sentiment that I pulled from the Painted Petals stamp set, were done in Blackberry Bliss.

Double Mat Kindness Inside 2 Watermarked

I love these layered mat card – double or triple, doesn’t matter.  They look complicated and “special” and yet we know they’re not hard to do at all!  I think this would make a lovely set of Thank You notes to give to someone as a gift.  Hope you like this card share – and give double/triple matting a try real soon!

Today starts the Most-Excellent FREE SHIPPING WEEK from Stampin’ Up!  What an awesome time to get all those things on your wish list (check out the Weekly Deals!).  I’m pretty sure I’ll be stocking up (hope DH isn’t reading this!).

For All Things Thank you card

Since it’s the time of year to be sending “Thank You” Cards (at least, my mom taught me to do that – I’m not always the most consistent with it, though!) I thought I’d share a card I made this week.   I used the Mojo Monday Sketch 379 as my jumping-off point.  You can see I didn’t jump TOO far, huh?

I chose the For All Things Stamp set – but it would easily work with any thank-you themed sentiment that you have in your arsenal!

Front of card 3 watermarked

I built my card front by starting with a piece of Cajun Craze cardstock.  I started to use the wavy lines stamp from the Chalk Lines set, inking it up with Crushed Curry ink, for a tone-on effect.  Well, guess what?  Chalk Line only comes as a  photopolymer set (which is my preferred option anyway – for multiple reasons) – and, if one is half-blind, then it’s apparently not too hard to stick the stamp UPSIDE DOWN onto the block.  Which is exactly what I did – and I discovered it AFTER I made the first stamp on my cardstock.  Well, I guess I’m cheap FRUGAL enough that it hurt my soul to not use that piece of cardstock.  So, I stamped all the way across with my “new” stamp and then I turned the stamp over to right-ways up and re-did it.  And I decided that it looked like wood-grain and that I LIKED it (Hey, Mike-y….).  Here’s how the background looked when I got done with it:

Background of Mat WatermarkedJust shows – ta- go – ya that sometimes good ideas come from mistakes (I heard that’s how Sticky Notes came to be – this is probably  almost like THAT!).  I’ll be remembering this for future cards where I want to add some subtle background texture.

I pulled some paper from my Color Me Autumn DSP to make my geometric shapes.  The green piece, I ran through my Big Shot (one of my very FAVORITE tools!) with the Pretty Print Textured Embossing Folder.  Then, because I’d just gotten my Daffodil Delight Blendabilities markers, I traced over the “writing” with the lightest colored marker.  I thought it added a little sumpin’-sumpin’ to it.  With the yellow square – which I’d trimmed with a pair of raggedy-edge scissors (pretty sure that’s not the actual name, but you can see what I meant!), I used the wheat stamp from the For All Things set.  I inked it up with Pumpkin Pie ink, and then stamped it off on a piece of scrap paper.  Then I stamped it twice without re-inking – and I did that a couple of times, randomly placed on the square.  And then I decided it was good, and moved on!  My sentiment is stamped with Old Olive and that square also has a Pumpkin Pie stamped-off-once-on-scrap-paper (that should be an acronym S.O3. S.P. or something) wheat sheaf.  Then I sponged the edges of that square with more Pumpkin Pie ink, just to give it a little depth.

Front of card WatermarkedI adhered the three shapes onto the background mat with SNAIL.  Then tied a length of Pumpkin Pie 1/8′ Taffeta ribbon around the whole thing, ending it with the much dreaded bow.  Tacked the bow down with a tiny dot of glue and then added a few rhinestones for some bling.  I used two larger ones and a small one – I don’t know why!  Then I stuck the card front onto my card base with dimensionals.

On the inside, I did some more of my Old Olive S.O3.S.P.-ing with the wheat sheaf and then used a little leftover Pumpkin Pie taffeta to finish off my liner. And I stamped a Crumb Cake Medium envelope a few times with the wheat stamp as well.

Interior of Card 2 watermarked

Et voila!  Done.  Easy peasy – and I hope that you like it as much as I do!

And – on a slightly different note, my gi-hugic first Demonstator order came last night!  Like Christmas all over again – so, I’m off to paw through everything, and pet my new toys.  And start making cards with my Occasions and Sale-a-Bration Catalog items that were in my order.  Whoo-hoo!  If you haven’t seen those catalogs, you really MUST!  Wonderful new items for the Spring – and the Sale-A-Bration (going on through 21 Mar) is a great way to score FREE stuff (I think I’ve mentioned that free is my favorite price!).  So, be sure to check them out!
