Last week, in the midst of remembering a bad time in her life, my bestest friend got some really GREAT news. Her SECOND novel was published and on-the-street!! Whoo-hoo! So – at the same time that I was making a “Thinking about You” card, I was putting together a “Congratulations” card! I’d recently gotten the Wondrous Wreath bundle – stamp set and dies – 15% off – and wanted to try it out. And, one of my Happy Stampers cohorts had recently shared a gate-type card…..so….I killed two cards with one die-cut, as it were. Take a look-see:
Now, folks. I have a terrible confession to make to you here today. I am not a completely dumb person (no, THAT’S not the terrible confession!), but this card kind of bamboozled me! I didn’t have the card cuts, so I had to…..gasp…do MATH! And it was ever so hard math, too! Or at least it APPEARED to be. Not. Really – take the long side, divide by two. Divide that by two. And wa-la. Except I had to wa-la like 4 times before it opened and closed correctly. I didn’t take pictures of the 3 times that weren’t so stellar. No digital evidence except this blog, and I’ll swear I was hacked! 🙂 But, I finally got it. And here’s what it looks like open:
I started with a piece of Crushed Curry Card Stock – 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″. I scored and folded it at 2 1/8″ from each short end. Then, I dug back into my Adventure Bound DSP and decided to make the “gate” card look like….a gate! I cut the DSP to fit and SNAIL’d the pieces onto the two “doors” and also onto a square for the front of the card. That 3″ square piece of Crushed Curry “closes” the gate (although it doesn’t “hold” anything closed). It’s just SNAIL’d onto the left (as you look at it) door of the gate – and not on the other side (she says needlessly!).
Then I started to play with the Wonderful Wreath for the barn door. The stamp is a 2 or 3 part set, so I stamped the first piece in Crushed Curry (this is all on some Whisper White CS), the second step is in Calypso Coral and the final piece is in Bermuda Bay. With the wreath all stamped and festive looking, I cut it out with the matching die. I also cut the “ribbon bow” out – in Crushed Curry – with its die. I used some Dimensionals to put the wreath onto the “door” and Glue-Dot’d the bow in place. And then didn’t like how it looked – kinda nekkid and lonesome. So, I made a little Linen Thread Bow and glued that on with a little Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue. But it still wasn’t – quite – right…..So, I glued one of the Something Borrowed embellishments on top of the bows (with a couple of Glue Dots). And THEN it was juuuuuuuusssst right! 🙂
I stamped the sentiment from the Bitty Banner Bundle in Calypso Coral onto a piece of Daffodil Delight CS and die cut it with the coordinating framelit. I SNAIL’d that onto the wreath and added a few Crushed Curry and Daffodil Delight Itty Bitty Flowers (from the Itty Bitty Accent Punch pack) with glue dots. The flowers each got a small Rhinestone Jewel and….the front gate was done!
The inside started with a piece of Whisper White CS and got a Crushed Curry sentiment from the Simply Wonderful stamp set. Rounding out the inner liner is the Simply Wonderful flower that I inked up with my Crushed Curry and Wild Wasabi Stampin’ Write Markers. Done!
I hope it gave her a smile when she opened it – that it made her think of barns and horses and the open prairie of Colorado where she lives. And that it lifted her heart! 🙂
