Stampin’ Up! Vintage Leaves Express Thoughts and Prayers

Good Monday morning.  My name is Mary and I am, apparently, a stamping addict!  I’m on a one-day business trip, changed time zones, drove half the day.  Before I left the house this morning, I made sure I had my card to reference to post this post, my Cottage Greetings stamp set, my Cottage Greetings card kit, my Delightful Dijon, Basic Gray and Tuxedo Black Inks, my bone folder, SNAIL, Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue, craft ruler, SU! Paper Snips, and the “recipe” for my card.

Oh – and a few clothes for my meeting tomorrow!

I even remembered my make-up.  Don’t laugh – I went on a trip once – where I didn’t wear makeup on the airplane cause I was being pure lazy, and so I left my make-up bag in the second drawer in the bathroom.  Forgot earrings, too.  Had to make a mad dash to Target!! 😉  Since I drove to this meeting – I didn’t wear makeup today, either.  So it’s fortunate that I remembered everything!

Here we go!  Sadly, today’s card is going to be headed to my friends who lost their old Lab yesterday.  Black Jack – or BJ or just B – went to the Rainbow Bridge at the ripe old age of 14.  He was the patriarch of a large family of dogs – several labs, two miniature Doxies and an Australian Shepard.  He was a benelolent leader.  He was father to several beautiful and coveted litters of hunting Labs.  He was a very good boy, and he will be missed.  Jan and Ed and the twins (the same young men I’ve mentioned so often here), will miss his grinning face every day, but will carry their memories of him in their hearts.  I hope this card will let them know that I share in their sorrow.  And surely do understand it completely….

I went with the new Vintage Leaves stamp set and the matching Leaflets Framelits.  Which I bought as a 15% off bundle!  I paired it with the Thoughts and Prayers stamp set, which has so  many wonderful sentiments for this purpose.  Take a look-see:

Watercolor Wings Book Card

Here’s something you don’t know about me.  I am an ORGANIZING MAVEN!!  I LIVE to clean and organize my household, my barn, my life.  My closet is organized by color, garment type and day of the week.  My kitchen – well, let’s just say that it could pass for Martha Stewart’s kitchen.

I am possibly the most organized person you will ever know – virtually or in reality.

She said – never!

I’m possibly the polar opposite of everything I wrote above.  Oh, I have good intentions.  I can straighten and organize an area in the house and it looks quite awesome.  And then I USE that area and….well, you know.

Why am I telling you this, you might ask?  Well – think back a few posts, when I told you that I’d lost the piece of paper with the recipe for the book Wedding card.  Remember me telling you that I would likely FIND said paper where I least expected I would?  Guess what?  I was right.  I DID find it.  Tucked away with my embellishments and a couple of ink pads.  That’s where you’d have stuck it, right?  Certainly you wouldn’t have carefully placed it in your computer roll-on with the other pieces of paper with card recipes.  THAT would be crazy. 😉  But, find it I did – so here’s how to make a book card.

Now, this is a different card – I decided to make a new card using the same technique.  So the card cuts will be very close to what I used in the wedding card – just different colors.  If anyone wants the actual info for the Timeless Love wedding card – just leave me a comment and I’ll post that one as well.

I decided to use the Watercolor Wings set – brand new! – Butterfly Basics, and the Thoughts and Prayers set to create a Get Well card.  Take a look see:

Wetlands Get Well Card

Happy Day-Before-The-New-Catalog-Goes-Live! Yes, it’s the First of June.  Tomorrow is the big day!!  Also, there are exactly 20 days before I’ll be back in GA and I can hardly wait.  Thank you for listening….

I’ve got a new Hostess Code for you down below.  When you make your big order tomorrow, remember to use it!  And be thinking about what you’re going to pick as your free gift from me. 🙂

In the meantime, I have a quick and easy get-well card to share with you today.  A friend of mine, who was on his way out here to support the event I’m working on, wasn’t feeling real well before he left home.  When he got to his hotel, he realized he was really not doing well.  Long story short – he ended up getting an ambulance ride to the ER and the next day had surgery to have a stent put in.  He’d had a heart attack!  And flown across the country!  The smart part of me wants to say – seriously?  I would never do something so silly.  But….the “real” part of me knows that I darned sure would have.  We’re so invested in doing our jobs and not letting people down, aren’t we?  So, there but for the Grace of God go I….

He’s having to stay here for a week before he can fly home.  Fortunately his family was able to fly out to stay with him.  But, I wanted to make him a little card to let him know I was thinking about him.  And my boss was going to go see him the next day – so I needed to whip something up right quick-like.  I’d just put my new Wetlands set together, and I thought it would make a great masculine card.  Take a look-see:

Wetlands Thinking of You Outside 1 Watermarked

I already had some Blackberry Bliss mats and the band of the new Neutrals Designer Series Stack paper cut out, as I planned to make a set of cards to use as Thank You cards (look for those here next week!).  I just turned one of the bands over – so the flower’dy side was down.  I think the Smoky Slate diagonal stripe is very conducive to a masculine card.  I SNAIL’d the mat to a Smoky Slate card base and the DSP strip to that.

I used my Squares Collection Framelits and cut a Blackberry Bliss Mat, and a Smoky Slate sentiment piece.  I stamped the Wetlands image in Tuxedo Black, and then used my Stampin’ Write Markers to add a little color to the goose and grass.

Wetlands Thinking of You Outside 2 watermarked

I pulled out my Thoughts and Prayers set and stamped the sentiment in Blackberry Bliss.  All that was left was to adhere the matted piece to the front with Stampin’ Dimensionals and…done!

On the inside, I made a couple of quick stamps in Blackberry Bliss – for the Thoughts and Prayers sentiment – and in Smoky Slate for the grass – from the Wetlands set.  And I decided that was a good spot to stop!

Wetlands Thinking of You Inside 1 watermarked

I added a couple more gray grasses to a Medium Whisper White Envelope, and my quick-and-easy get well card was done!

Wetlands Thinking of You with Envelope 1 watermarked

I think it turned out well, and I love the Blackberry Bliss/Smoky Slate color combination.  I think it really works well together – especially for a masculine card.  Hope that you like it!

When you see the products used in this card  (below), remember that you’ll be able to click on all of them, but you won’t be able to order the new products (in this case, only the Neutrals Designer Series Paper Stack – and that’s only true until tomorrow!!).

Speaking of tomorrow….Here’s a couple of reminders about what’s fixin’ to take place over at Stampin’ Up! in the next couple of days.

Thoughts and Prayers Sympathy Card

When I built this card to share with you today, I meant it as a “hip pocket” card.  You know – one that you have ready – in your hip pocket so to speak – in case a need arises.  Well, a need arose much more quickly than I anticipated.  My good friends back in Atlanta had to put their lab to sleep a couple of weeks back.  She’d been with them her whole life and it was a big loss for them.  I just found out at the beginning of the week – my friend wanted to spare me the upset on top of the stress of the job out here in California.  I sent this card right away – and hope that it brought them some comfort.

Thinking of You Sympathy Outside 1 watermarkedThis card started with some plain vellum card stock, which I background stamped with the Something Lacy stamp (a favorite of mine!).  One piece was done with white ink and the other in Sahara Sand.  I let the pieces dry for several days – it takes a while.  But, once it was “done”, the ink adheres nicely!  I inked up the tree from the Thoughts and Prayers set withNight of Navy and stamped it onto the Sahara Sand piece.  Then did the same with the sentiment.  And let both of THOSE dry for a while.

I did a little coloring with my Crisp Cantaloupe and Strawberry Slush Stampin’ Write Markers on the white background.  You can color right on the front of the vellum (versus coloring the back of the preprinted vellum in the new SAB Sheer Perfection Designer Stack).  I didn’t add any color to the other, Sahara Sand, piece.  I edged both pieces with Night of Navy ink – just to finish them off a little.

I cut two mats from Sahara Sand Card Stock, sponged both those edges with more Night of Navy, and then used Glue Dots to adhere the vellum to the mats.  I tried to get the glue dots under inked portions of the paper – and kept them as flat as possible so they wouldn’t show thru.

Thinkin of You Sympathy Outside 2 watermarked
I wrapped a length of Sahara Sand lace trim around the larger mat, taping it on the back.  Then I popped the mat onto my Night of Navy card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.   And gave the top mat the same treatment.  About the time I got the card all ready for final embellishment, I got my new Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack (Thanks, Amy Koenders!) in the mail.  The little flower punch was exactly right – so I put a few of them on the tree with glue dots and then added some small pearls.  Done – and I love it! 🙂

For the inside, I used some more of the Sahara Sand card stock, sponged with Night of Navy.  I stamped the Thoughts and Prayers sentiment and the flowery flourish in Night of Navy as well.  Thinking of You Sympathy inside 1 watermarkedAt that point, I was thinking I’d wait until I got my last SU order in – with another pack of the Pearl Basic Jewels in it – because I wanted to accent the inside flowers with the teensy little pearls.  I’d done a silly thing, people.  I’d let myself run out of the tiniest pearls in the package.  And those were the only ones that would do for this card.  Don’t be like me – order early.  Order 2 or 3 packages at a time!! 🙂  Anyway – my need to send the card came up much faster than my order was going to arrive – so it went out as is.  Which I still like a lot.  And, hey – when I started to put the pearls on I might have changed my mind anyway!

So – I love this stamp set.  The sentiments are nice and the images are pretty and serene.  You can go spiritual or not-so-much.  Definitely consider adding it to your tool box – if you haven’t already!

As of today, 19 Mar 15 – there are only 12 days left to get in on Sale-A-Bration!  We’ve added some products that are now available as freebies:

New 17 Mar 15 SAB Items

BLENDABILITIES DISCONTINUED

You’ve been reading that the Blendies have been on ordering hold, due to quality issues in manufacturing. Due to the nature of the defect, Stampin’ Up! has concluded that difficulties, dissatisfaction, and product returns will only become more widespread. The manufacturer is unable to correct the problem in a manner the company is certain would meet our high quality standards and provide us with a stable, long-term solution. Therefore, after a great deal of deliberation and in order to prevent further disappointment, the Blendabilities product line has been discontinued. If you have Blendabilities that you feel are defective, please let me know and I’ll guide you through what to do next. Hopefully SU will find a new source for alcohol markers – you’ll know just as soon as I do!

Lotus Blossom Thinking of You

So, in a week where I ought to be building wonderful, creative, gender-specific, gender-neutral, romantic and yet funny Valentine’s Cards, I find myself working on other kinds of cards entirely.  A friend of mine has family in the hospital, who isn’t doing well.  I want to send a card letting her know that I’m thinking about and praying for her.  So, I delved into my more somber creativity and mined the beautiful Lotus Blossom SU Set (Sale-a-Bration item – still FREE with a $50 purchase thru 31 Mar) and the equally lovely Irresistibly Yours DSP (Occasions catalog) to build today’s card.  I also used the Annual Catalog stamp set called Thoughts and Prayers for the sentiment.

About the same time that I knew I needed such a card, the weekly Mojo Monday sketch arrived in my e-mail.

Mojo Monday 383

I gotta tell y’all – for some reason, this one just confounded me!  I have no idea why – but it took me two days working off and on to finally build something that I liked well enough to call it good.  I struggled with colors and patterns and…well, I just struggled.  Maybe because it’s February.  Or perhaps the moon is setting in the House of the Rising sun and Mercury is playing with Mars.  Or something.  But, I finally decided to quit overthinking it and just put it all together.  And – really ended up liking it quite a lot!  See what you think:

Thinking of You Outside 1 Watermarked

I started with one of our ever-so-handy Crumb Cake Cut and Ready Card Bases and cut a piece of Very Vanilla Card stock for the main card front.  Then, I matted a piece of the Sale-a-Bration Irresistibly Yours DSP onto a piece of Crumb Cake CS.  The DSP, I’d colored with an almost dry SU Sponge Dauber – my “brown” one.  It had been used for Crumb Cake  and Soft Suede ink at various times in the past few days.  The exact ink color is less important than the fact that it was ALMOST DRY, so the DSP is only very lightly colored.

My art piece is from the Typeset DSP that I edge sponged with some Old Olive and then stamped with the Lotus Blossom.  Remember, this is a multi-step stamp that comes in photopolymer – so, as I mentioned in an earlier post, you’ll want to use a squishy mat under your paper when you use the stamps (this is true for ANY photopolymer stamp!).  Use your piercing mat or one of your old squishy mouse pads.  Any-who….the first two stamps are done in Pumpkin Pie and the third layer is with Crushed Curry.  I experimented on scrap paper a couple of times to come up with the best way to lay down the colors before putting it on my DSP – and I ended up with this one, which I loved!  Now, take note: this is the way that I liked best – you can definitely be your own boss with this stamp.  Whatever YOU like best IS the best!  Play with it and have fun with it – there’s no telling what you’ll be able to come up with!

The stem is also two -step and I used Old Olive on the first stamp and Mossy Meadow for the second layer.

Thinking of You Outside 2 Watermarked

The banners are the polka dots from the Irresistibly Yours DSP.  I colored them with Soft Suede – and just used the same dauber on both, but colored the bottom piece more – making it darker. I like the tone-on-tone result.  Made these into banners by cutting the ends with the Hexagon Punch.

The Sassy Salutations set provided my sentiment, which is stamped in Soft Suede on a Vanilla circle die-cut that I edge-sponged with more Old Olive.

As I adhered all the layers to my Vanilla card front, I used SNAIL for all the pieces, except for the right-side edge of the art piece.  That area has SU Dimensionals on it to compensate for the raised layers of the vertical DSP.

I finished the card front with a tiny Linen Thread bow glued to the sentiment, and three rhinestone jewels that I colored with the darkest Pumpkin Pie Blendability.

Thinking of You Outside 3 Watermarked
I wanted the inside to have a sentiment for this card, and I chose the Thoughts and Prayers set to accomplish my goal.  It’s stamped in Soft Suede on vanilla card stock that I lightly edged with Old Olive ink.  And, just cause I could and I liked it so much, I added another Lotus Blossom in the bottom corner.  I think it finished it off nicely.  What’s so fun about this particular stamp is that even using the same colors and stamping the same way each time, each flower you build looks just a little different than the last one – just like real flowers.  I love it more every time I use it!

Thinking of You Inside 2 Watermarked

Obviously, if you left the sentiment out, this would make a very pretty every-day-just-because-I-was-thinking-about-you-today card!

This really wasn’t as hard a card to make as I made it out to be – at least in the end!  And I really love how the whole card is in soft, neutral tones, with just the Lotus Blossom popping off the card.  Pumpkin Pie and Crushed Curry – beautimous!  Try it today – you’ll like it!

There’s still time to get in on the weekly deals – check out the Hearts border punch!  Mine is already on it’s way to me – along with some Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer paper.  Can’t wait to play with them! 🙂
