Monday Monday. Welcome to the start of another work week. I’m trying to come up with something witty and clever to say about work. And Monday. But, I got nuthin’. Well, nuthin’ clever that is. Or witty. But, I do have a factoid for you about Monday. Did you know (I got this from a Huffington Post article conducted in 2013), that 78% of people in a poll by Monster.com said they get the “Sunday evening blues” as they come to terms with the idea of Monday happening? It might even be a bigger number now. And, it even said that people who LIKE their jobs get the blues on Sunday afternoon. Huh. So – what to do? Some say do the not-fun stuff (clean the house, grocery shop, etc) on Saturday and then do a FUN thing on Sunday. Huffington suggests writing down on paper how you’re feeling and why…… really?!? Any of you get the Sunday evening blues and wish Monday would just not roll around? How do YOU beat it?
But, one fun thing about this Monday is a new card to share! I combined a couple of different stamp sets for this one, tapping the background stamp called World of Thanks, Watercolor Words and Layered Letters Alphabet, to come up with this clean and simple card. Take a look-see:
My design was inspired by the Freshly Made Sketches #196. Be sure to head over and see what fun designs they create for us to play with!
I started with a piece of the new Thick Whisper White card stock – this is super for card bases, it’s got plenty of heft. I started by putting all the Layered Letters Alphabet letters I was using onto one of my acrylic handles, making sure I had everything lined up. It’s handy when the sentiment only uses each letter once! Then I inked it up with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and stamped it on the side. And then, because I forgot the cardinal rule when using photopolymer stamps (always stamp on something squishy!), I went back and colored in all the letters with my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker. Don’t be like me – get yer squishy mat out and USE it! 😉
Then I inked up the rectangular shape in Layered Letters with my Watermelon Wonder Ink, and stamped down the letters a few times. I didn’t stress about it being perfect – I kind of wanted it NOT perfect. But I also tried not to stress about making it perfectly not perfect, either!
With the sentiment complete, I laid a length of the new Black 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon up the side of the card, snipped the ends off, and then adhered the ribbon with a little bit of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue. Easy does it on that! Finishing the side/sentiment first let me do some real-time measurement to get the art piece just the right size. I spent a little time being sure that I was going to get “thanks so much” in the center of the art piece AND angled in such a way that it would be parallel to the card when the art was set askew to match the inspiration sketch. Not difficult, just a little persnickety!
When I had the angles right, I inked up the World of Thanks stamp with more of the Tuxedo Black ink. Now, on a background stamp of this size, I’d normally lay the stamp down on my work surface, ink it up, and then lay my card stock on the stamp. Easier that way. In this case, however, it was easier for me to put my piece of Whisper White card stock (regular thickness this time!) on the angle I wanted and then stamp it with the background stamp on a handle. And it worked! I had my sentiment just how I wanted it.
I SNAILd it to a mat on Watermelon Wonder, and then adhered it to the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I added Pearl Basic Jewels to the line of dots and to the little flower centers and the front was done!
The inside was equally simple. For it, I used the cool new Watercolor Words stamp set. I just love it – the font is beautiful and the sentiments are big enough to make a statement in a card! I used Tuxedo Black again, and stamped the sentiment first. Then I embellished it with another of the Layered Letters Alphabet rectangles in Watermelon Wonder.
Et Voila! The card was done – Very clean. Very simple. Very quick and easy! And – I think it would be fun to make a whole set of these – using all the new In-COlors! Just change the ink and the art mat color and you’ve got an awesome set of Thank You notes in the blink of an eye!

P.S. I’d like to make a plug for two SU! products that I recently broke down and acquired. I’d procrastinated because I had alternativOne is the Grid Paper. I’d been using a silicon mat as my work surface, and it was great. I could just wipe it off, and nothing stuck to it. But this Grid Paper is….wonderful! I can use it to stamp off, use it to check what a stamp is going to look like before I stamp my actual work, write notes on it (like measurements!), draw out my card plan. And when it gets too full – I just rip off a sheet and turn it over and use the other side! And you get a LOT of sheets for the money. Really a great tool and a super price.
The other SU! item I recently got is the Paper Snips. I have a nice set of Ranger craft scissors that works just fine for bigger cuts. But for fussy cutting – it takes a little extra work. The SU! snips are amazingly sharp and small enough to make fussy cutting much MUCH easier! Really a great purchase and I’m awful glad I decided to get them.
Just wanted to bring them to light for you!
