Stampin’ Up! Marquee Messages Shaker Card for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop

HappyStampersBlogPostBanner-2
Mornin’, y’all –  it’s Thursday and that means it’s Blog Hop Day!  We’ve got a color challenge today – we were asked to use Pool Party, Mossy Meadow and Soft Suede.  Be sure to check out how all the ladies in the hop use these colors in their projects today!

It took me a while to make this card this week.  I’ve been cropping and watermarking and posting new catalog sneak peek pictures.  And – the card I planned to make wanted a new item from my Pre-order.  So, I had the card started and then was waiting for my goodies to arrive.

And then they did.  But so did the notice that my tomatoes and pepper plants had shipped and will be here today!  So, spent most of Wednesday mixing soil and getting the raised beds ready.  And they are!  And, it was way too pretty a day to spend it inside – even to stamp!

So…what was I waiting for in my pre-order?  One of the items that caused a ton of excitement at OnStage last week.  Something that should be so…insignificant…and yet is kind of huge!

Foam Adhesive Strips - Stamps-N-Lingers
Can you see what that is?  That, my friends, is a package of Foam Adhesive Strips!  You’ll get a package of strips – all about 10 – 11″ long (2 sheets per package).  The strips are little – maybe just over 1/8″ wide? – and are double sided.  And they make making shaker cards a snap!

So – using these strips, and a new available-1-June stamp set called Marquee Messages, I combined the colors of the challenge, the new stamp set and some old friends from the current catalog and this is what I came up with.  Take a look-see:Marquee Messages Shaker Birthday 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers
So – I started this one by stamping the Marquee image from the Marquee Messages stamp set in Versamark Ink on a piece of Whisper White card stock.  Then I sprinkled it with love Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed the image.  I fussy cut it – to include the inside.  Just poke your snips thru the middle and then carefully snip your way to the inner edge.  Heat embossing makes fussy cutting easy!  I gave the image a little color with my Pool Party Stampin’ Write Marker.

Stampin’ Up! Vivid Vases Thanks for the Happy Stampers Blog Hop

HappyStampersBlogPostBanner-2
Mornin’, y’all –  it’s Thursday and that means it’s Blog Hop Day!  If you’ve been here at our Blog Hops before – welcome back, and thank you!  If this is your first time with us, I think you’re in for a treat – we’ve got some really talented ladies in this group.  You’ll like what you see as you tour thru everyone’s blog, I promise!

I’m writing this post on Wednesday night, from the hotel in Salt Lake City!  Amy and I flew in today, had a little lunch and then wandered a bit thru the Tabernacle Gardens.  The flowers are spectacular – all over the downtown area, really, but especially in the garden…

SLC Flowers - Stamps-N-Lingers

A little later we hit the bus and were taken to the Home Office – which we spent a pleasant hour or so touring and talking to the great folks that work there and help us every day.  Here we are in front of the building entrance – where the Stampin’ Up! rock resides…

Amy and Me at the SU! Rock - Stamps-N-Lingers

So, tomorrow (well, today, when you read this!) is the start of OnStage – I’ll try to send an update with Friday’s card share!

And now – back to our regularly scheduled programming!  On with the Happy Stampers Blog Hop!

We had a challenging challenge today – this sketch was our starting point:

11222532_1305623816130857_1411780771705397773_n
For my share today, I played with an Annual Catalog stamp called Vivid Vases.  Kind of prophetic, really, considering the flowers we’re seeing here!  I added some Farmer’s Market DSP and some Burlap Ribbon and an Expressions Natural Elements sentiment.  Take a look-see:

Vivid Vase Thanks 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers
To begin with, I SNAILd a panel of Farmer’s Market DSP to a Blackberry Bliss card stock mat.  The two banners of the vertical element are more pieces of the Farmer’s Market DSP, trimmed with the Banner Triple Punch – I SNAILd them on a little offset, just cuz I could! 🙂

Vivid Vases Thanks 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers

For the Vivid Vases, I first stamped just four of the vases and flowers image onto a piece of Very Vanilla card stock, which I matted on Blackberry Bliss.  I colored the vases I wanted to stamp with my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker – directly to the rubber – and then stamped it on the card stock.  Then I colored the flowers (from left to right) with Tangelo Twist, Blackberry Bliss/Rich Razzleberry, Blackberry Bliss and Hello Honey/Old Olive Stampin’ Write Markers.

Vivid Vases Thanks 2 - Stamps-N-Lingers

For the vases themselves – I stamped the image again a couple of times on a few of the more…decorative!…pieces of the Farmer’s Market DSP and then cut each vase out with my Paper Snips.  I liked how each one got a completely different pattern on it – they look like art glass, to me!  Then, because I knew I was going to pop them with Stampin’ Dimensionals – and needed them to have a little body – I used a little Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere them to a scrap of Very Vanilla card stock.  Then I fussy cut them again!  From there – it was downhill and easy peasy!  Not to say that any of this had been hard to this point.   Just kind of fussy.

See what I did there? 😉

Vivid Vases Thanks 3 - Stamps-N-Lingers
I SNAILd the vases-stamped Very Vanilla panel to the card front (remember I’d already matted it on Blackberry Bliss).  Then I SNAILd another design in the Farmer’s Market DSP on Blackberry Bliss and SNAILd that to the card front (it’s the piece under “Thanks”).

Over that, I used some more Liquid Glue to adhere a length of 1 1/4″ Burlap Ribbon.  That set me up for the fussy cut Vivid Vases. I cut small pieces of Stampin’ Dimensionals and used those to pop each vase over its counterpart (and a little of the Burlap Ribbon) on the Very Vanilla stamped image.  Finally, I wrapped a piece of Blackberry Bliss 5/8″ Striped Cotton Ribbon over the Burlap Ribbon – also covering the bottom edge of the vases – securing it in the back with scotch tape.

Vivid Vases Thanks 8 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I covered the vases on the Vivid Vases stamp with sticky notes, inked up just the sentiment in Mossy Meadow and stamped it on a strip of Very Vanilla.  I then used my Washi Label Punch to punch each end of the strip.  Since this punch is now not available – if you don’t have it already, you could easily do fussy cut banner ends instead!  Then I used a little Liquid Glue to adhere the sentiment to the ribbon.

Vivid Vases Thanks 1 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I decided to add the “Thanks” from the Expressions Natural Elements set (Annual Catalog), adhering it with lots of little dots of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue!  A tiny bow – made with a length of Linen Thread and one of Gold Metallic Thread – glued onto the vase completed the card front. 🙂

Vivid Vase Thanks 4 - Stamps-N-Lingers

For the inside of the card, I used my Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker to ink up one vase and stamped it in the corner of a Very Vanilla panel.  Then I adhered a fussy cut vase over that with Liquid Glue, and colored the flower with my Hello Honey and Old Olive Stampin’ Write Markers.

Vivid Vases Thanks 5 - Stamps-N-Lingers

I SNAILd the panel to a Blackberry Bliss mat and then into my Mossy Meadow card base.   I also SNAILd the card front on and the card was done!

For the Crumb Cake Medium Envelope, I stamped a Basic Black Vivid Vase in the bottom front corner and colored the flowers and leaves….

Vivid Vases Thanks 6 - Stamps-N-Lingers
…and used another piece of the Farmer’s Market DSP to cut a liner with my Envelope Liner Framelits.

Vivid Vases Thanks 7 - Stamps-N-Lingers
Et Voila!  This card kind of developed as I went along – but the superb color coordination that Stampin’ Up! color suites and DSPs provide make it so easy!  I love this Vivid Vases stamp – it’s a great little a la carte wooden stamp that is just simple and beautiful!  Highly recommend it for your tool box! 🙂

What’s Up at Stampin’ Up! for 18 August

Before I delve into the new Weekly Deals and Stampin’ Up! Updates – I’m going to take a half a second to brag on my buddy.  As you know, on Sunday, Wayne and I attended the White Coat Ceremony for the incoming Class of 2019 at the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine.  It was so cool that I wanted to share a couple of pictures!  The class, which numbers 114 in total (out of 1025 applicants!  Yikes!) all walked across the stage and a couple of ranking members of the School helped the new doc-to-be put his/her white coat on.  I know – I should know who they are but 1) they ran out of programs before we got there even though we were almost an hour early! and 2) the lady doing the introductions wasn’t close enough to the mic and I believe she had marbles in her mouth!

There’s Docta Chris (that’s what we’re calling him these days!) doing the handshake!

What’s Up at Stampin’ Up! and Last Day for Blog Candy….

Well, back from my whirlwind business trip.  Found a leetle package when I got home – my Stampin’ Up! 2015 Holiday Catalog pre-order!  Whoo-hoo!  The box – which is hefty, but actually smaller than I’d hoped (I wanted a box that needed to be forklifted!!) – the good folk at SU! are disturbingly and enviably efficient at packing! – is sitting provocatively in the kitchen.  Just waiting for me to come tear into it.  My plan is to get the horses taken care of, work for a while and then…..maybe as a little break…..yep.  You got it!

If I were you guys, I’d anticipate tomorrow’s card share to be something from inside that box! 😉  I can’t wait to see it all and make something!

For now, let me remind you that this is the last day to sign up for the 3rd 100th Blog-post-iversary Candy package!  You need to go to this post and leave a comment before 6pm Mountain time TONIGHT!  We’ve already had two winners:

Blog Candy #1 – JRGH

Blog Candy #2 – Patricia

Blog Candy #3 – Will it be YOU?!? 🙂

There are some fun new Weekly Deals to be had – check them out and get them while they last!

Stampin’ Up! Lovely as a Tree at Moonrise

Well, the big cat just determined he was done with my lap – at least for a little while – so I can actually DO a blog post tonight!  Leo is a lap hog  – he stretches across my lap from one arm of the recliner to the other.  And stretches luxuriously and yawns (he yawns quite cute-ly – with the end of his tongue all curled up!) and turns half upside down – all across my lap.  And he does NOT think that it’s a good idea for me to set my computer on him whilst he’s doing all this.  So….cat -yes.  Computer – No.  Until he’s done with me.  It’s what we do.

My card tonight is inspired by a picture I saw on Pinterest.  Not of a card, but….

Hare at Moonrise

When I saw this photo, it just spoke to me.  About a 1000 years ago, in a galaxy far far away, I spent some time in the panhandle of Oklahoma.  Quite a while, actually – another business trip (yes, you’ve figured out my secret – I get ALL the great garden spots for my business trips….).  And it was in a pretty isolated little town (Super Walmart came while I was there and the whole town turned out.  It was BIG!).  So, I tried to find things to do (at that time, I didn’t do stamping, so I didn’t have a room full of crafty things to do) and on one of my little trips, I ended up at a preserve of some sort – no clue what it was called any more.  Wide open spaces.  Buffalo roaming.  Longhorns playing.  Bunnies frolicking.  Prairie Dogs barking.  It was big and, in its own way, beautiful.  A prairie preserved.  Anyway, I got a bee in my bonnet that it would be really cool to be there at night when there was a full moon.  So, one weekend, I dilly’d and dallied about until it was finally dark and the moon had risen over the prairie.  I wasn’t alone – other folks apparently shared my bee.  It was spectacular.  I don’t even remember the time of year now, but it wasn’t too hot or too cold.  It was just beautiful.  The light of the moon was….ethereal.  If it wasn’t too crystal-chaneling woo-woo….I’d say I could hear the creak of the wagons and the rustle of the wheels rolling thru the prairie grasses.  Truly one of the coolest experiences of my life.

Well – that picture took me back to that night.  And I wanted to re-create it on a card.  So I tried.  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Color Me Irresistible and Tin of Cards say a Vintage Patriotic Thank You!

Well, this morning a very very cool thing happened to me.  Possibly the coolest thing that’s happened to me in….well, a really long time!

After I got done with the horses this morning, Wayne and I were sitting on the porch behind the barn, enjoying the 2.3 minutes that remained before the heat cranked up from yucky to miserable.  He was just sitting drinking his coffee and I was buried in my phone looking for a recipe.  All of a sudden he says – kind of quiet-like “Mare (that’s what he calls me – I assume it’s a shortening of my name and not a comparison of my hindquarters to those of my ponies…)”  “Mare, there’a a hummingbird”.  I look up and there, indeed, was a hummingbird!  About 2 feet in front of my face, hovering there with his little wings going so fast they were a complete blur.  He looked right at me for about 20 seconds and then he was gone.  I’m sure the feeders are filled and fresh, so…not sure what he was after, but – I’m so very glad he stopped by for a chat! It. Was. Way. Too. Cool!!

He may have been telling me thanks for the feeders – I’ve got two that I keep going this time of year.  I’ve even started making nectar – after having read that the commercial stuff is bad for them.  Or perhaps he’s a teenager-hummer and he was saying “hey lady! What’s with the “health” food?!? We LIKE the commercial nectar with the chemicals and the preservatives and the Red Dye #2!!  Bring back the junk food!” 😉  I don’t know.  I’m just going to treasure the moment!

Stampin’ Up! Sprinkles of Life And Many More

When I take either of my cats to the vet – which I avoid at all possible costs (due, mostly, to the fact that they both get quite carsick and it’s pretty much a nightmare for all of us) – they somehow….know.  Long before I actually GET the cat carrier.  I don’t know how.  Cat ESPN, perhaps?  Whatever it is, as soon as I even THINK – “hey, I need to get the carriers so we can take the cat(s) to the vet” – they’re just gone.  Under a chair, deep in the bowels of the chair actually (sorry I said “bowels” on the internet).  Up so high that they can’t be reached, cowering in fear.  Yes, they detest the carrier, the car, the vet, the outdoors…. 🙂

Why do I tell you this story, you ask?

Well, right now, my MasterCard is pulling a “cat about to go to the vet” routine in my wallet.  Trying to make itself as tiny as possible, in the hopes that it will be passed over…..

Because…..

Tomorrow is the start of the SU! Demonstrator Pre-Order for the 2015 Holiday Catalog! Whoo-hoo-hoo-HOO!!  I’ve tried so hard to not make a list as long as my arm, but….I’ve been a little less than successful, I fear.

My husband would be relating to my MasterCard’s feelings. If he only knew…shhh….let’s just keep this a little thing between you, me and the blogisphere, shall we??

Anywho….on to today’s card.

Stampin’ Up! Awesomely Artistic Butterfly and….Blog Candy!

Well, I promised some blog candy to celebrate the 100th post on Stamps-N-Lingers, and this is Day One!  Not sure yet how many days there will be, but it’s definitely more than One.  Less that Ten! 🙂  Read down to see what the offering is and how you can get in on the fun!

Have any of you seen Birdman?  With Michael Keaton?  I think it won a few Oscars.  We’re watching it while I type this blog post.  We’re like 45 minutes in and neither one of us have a clue.  It’s pretty weird….and we have yet to find a point to it.  Oh wait – now he’s moving stuff with his mind, apparently.  What??  I can’t tell if it’s supposed to be real, or if he’s whack-a-do, or….?  And, for some reason, the soundtrack is some danged drums just drumming and drumming and drumming.  All the time – even when the dialogue is going.  So far I’m pretty darned glad we didn’t spend any money to see it in the theater!

Can you tell it’s been a pretty boring day?  Laundry and groceries.  House cleaning I SHOULD have done, but didn’t.  But, in the midst of the incredible excitement, I made a card to share with you!  Take a look-see:

Stampin’ Up! Happy Birthday with Color Me Irresistible and Timeless Elegance

Here’s a fact.  We love watching wrestling.  All sorts of wrestling.  Sumo.  Greco-Roman.  College.  Professional.  We especially love the pro wrestlers – with their graceful moves, skilled athleticism and flair for the dramatic.  We know that some folks think it’s fake, but we know the truth.  It’s completely real.  These guys are out for blood.  And we love.  Every.  Minute! 🙂

Wait.

What??

This is horse hockey.  Completely. Total baloney.  Which is why we were pretty surprised to receive an e-mail today from Comcast thanking us for purchasing WWE-something or other on Pay Per View.  I don’t even know what WWE stands for – I mean, I know that one or the other of the “W’s” must be for “Wrestling”, but that’s about it.  So, how (why?!?) would I have ordered it?  And – it appears that I ordered it ordered it 7 times.  In a row.  Every 2 minutes.  For a cool $12.95 per viewing.  Comcast was stumped.  Still is, apparently.  It’s a mystery (above and beyond the mystery of why anyone watches WWE in the first place – no flames, folks, if you watch WWE, it’s all good.  But – could you tell me what the other two letters stand for? 😉 ) and is likely to remain so.  But you can bet we’ll be keeping a CLOSE eye on the bill!!

All this excitement was taking place whilst I was building the card to share with you today.  I was working on my card and Wayne was on the phone for almost an hour.  He’s really good at dealing with the folks in customer service – he just doesn’t quit asking questions until he’s got every answer he wanted.  Me?  I usually take the first answer that sounds plausible and drive on!

My inspiration for the card came from the Freshly Made Sketches #197:
