Stampin’ Up! Happy Birthday with Color Me Irresistible and Timeless Elegance

Here’s a fact.  We love watching wrestling.  All sorts of wrestling.  Sumo.  Greco-Roman.  College.  Professional.  We especially love the pro wrestlers – with their graceful moves, skilled athleticism and flair for the dramatic.  We know that some folks think it’s fake, but we know the truth.  It’s completely real.  These guys are out for blood.  And we love.  Every.  Minute! 🙂

Wait.

What??

This is horse hockey.  Completely. Total baloney.  Which is why we were pretty surprised to receive an e-mail today from Comcast thanking us for purchasing WWE-something or other on Pay Per View.  I don’t even know what WWE stands for – I mean, I know that one or the other of the “W’s” must be for “Wrestling”, but that’s about it.  So, how (why?!?) would I have ordered it?  And – it appears that I ordered it ordered it 7 times.  In a row.  Every 2 minutes.  For a cool $12.95 per viewing.  Comcast was stumped.  Still is, apparently.  It’s a mystery (above and beyond the mystery of why anyone watches WWE in the first place – no flames, folks, if you watch WWE, it’s all good.  But – could you tell me what the other two letters stand for? 😉 ) and is likely to remain so.  But you can bet we’ll be keeping a CLOSE eye on the bill!!

All this excitement was taking place whilst I was building the card to share with you today.  I was working on my card and Wayne was on the phone for almost an hour.  He’s really good at dealing with the folks in customer service – he just doesn’t quit asking questions until he’s got every answer he wanted.  Me?  I usually take the first answer that sounds plausible and drive on!

My inspiration for the card came from the Freshly Made Sketches #197:

Pink and Black Celebrate FMS 195 Sketch

I’d decided I wanted to incorporate some of the new Timeless Elegance DSP – and specifically to use it in its natural Black/Sahara Sand state, while coloring one of the flowers.  I ended up going away from that plan a little bit.  Take a look-see:

Pink and Black Celebrate FMS 195 Outside 1 watemarked

I started by laying out the sketch and determining how large a square I should use.  The answer (around 2″ x 2″) drove some design decisions.  I decided I should color my flower and leaves, and then fussy cut them and mount them onto a square.  Then I determined my color scheme – Black, Sahara Sand and….an accent color, which I decided would be Blushing Bride.  Black and Pink.  Yep.  Pretty classic pairing!

I chose a flower on the Timeless Elegance DSP, and colored it with my Many Marvelous Marker set.  The flower is in Blushing Bride and some Calypso Coral for the outlines of the petals. The leaves are outlined in Wild Wasabi and filled in with Pear Pizzazz.  The center is Daffodil Delight and Crushed Curry.

Once he was colored in and fussy cut (that took MUCH longer to do than to write, I promise!), I did some playing with him with my Crystal Accents and my new tub of Iridescent Ice Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  I filled in the center and outlined the flower petals with the Crystal Accents and then sprinkled it with the embossing powder.  Once it was dry, I brushed the excess powder off – I did NOT heat it (the Iridescent Ice turns purplish when it’s heat embossed – and that’s not what I wanted!).

To build the card, I first SNAILd a piece of the black Color Me Irresistible (let’s call that “CMI”, shall we?) DSP onto my Blushing Bride card base.  Then, I sponged a rectangle of the white CMI with Blushing Bride ink, and SNAILd that to a mat of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper.  Then I built the banner using more of the black CMI and the Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper.  I cut both of them to length and then punched them in the Banner Triple Punch.  SNAILing them together and then to the card front completed that part of the sketch.

The final element of the sketch was the art square.  It’s just another piece of the black Color Me Irresistible on a piece of the Glimmer Paper.  I used Dimensionals to adhere that square to the card front (actually half Dimensional and half SNAIL to accommodate the height difference created by the banner).  I used a little bit of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to stick the leaves onto the back of the flower in as au naturel a manner as I could figure, then I dimensional’d the whole thing onto my art square.

Pink and Black Celebrate FMS 195 Outside 2 watermarked To add the sentiment, I colored the Expressions Natural Elements….element….with my Blushing Bride Stampin’ Write Marker and then covered it in Crystal Effects.  I toyed with sprinkling more of the Iridescent Ice Emboss Powder on it, but….decided against it.  It’s adhered to the card with Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.  The final step was to pop the card front onto the black matted card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

For the inside, I added a Dazzling Diamonds matted strip of Color Me Irresistible to the bottom of a piece of Whisper White card stock.  The inside sentiment is from the And Many More stamp set, stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.

….et voila!  The card was done.  When it’s time for this one to go out, I’ll use a Whisper White Medium Envelope.  Not sure yet how I’ll decorate it….any ideas out there?

See below for all the card cuts and products used in this card!

Hope that you’re getting ready to go out and have some fun this weekend!
