Mornin’, y’all – it’s Thursday and that means it’s Blog Hop Day! We’ve got a color challenge today – we were asked to use Pool Party, Mossy Meadow and Soft Suede. Be sure to check out how all the ladies in the hop use these colors in their projects today!
It took me a while to make this card this week. I’ve been cropping and watermarking and posting new catalog sneak peek pictures. And – the card I planned to make wanted a new item from my Pre-order. So, I had the card started and then was waiting for my goodies to arrive.
And then they did. But so did the notice that my tomatoes and pepper plants had shipped and will be here today! So, spent most of Wednesday mixing soil and getting the raised beds ready. And they are! And, it was way too pretty a day to spend it inside – even to stamp!
So…what was I waiting for in my pre-order? One of the items that caused a ton of excitement at OnStage last week. Something that should be so…insignificant…and yet is kind of huge!
Can you see what that is? That, my friends, is a package of Foam Adhesive Strips! You’ll get a package of strips – all about 10 – 11″ long (2 sheets per package). The strips are little – maybe just over 1/8″ wide? – and are double sided. And they make making shaker cards a snap!
So – using these strips, and a new available-1-June stamp set called Marquee Messages, I combined the colors of the challenge, the new stamp set and some old friends from the current catalog and this is what I came up with. Take a look-see:
So – I started this one by stamping the Marquee image from the Marquee Messages stamp set in Versamark Ink on a piece of Whisper White card stock. Then I sprinkled it with love Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed the image. I fussy cut it – to include the inside. Just poke your snips thru the middle and then carefully snip your way to the inner edge. Heat embossing makes fussy cutting easy! I gave the image a little color with my Pool Party Stampin’ Write Marker.
I stamped the “It’s Your” part of the Marquee Messages sentiment in Mossy Meadow on another piece of Whisper White. That piece is just big enough to fit behind the marquee image. I also stamped “Birthday” in Mossy Meadow. This is a fun set – with lots of sentiments that can be mixed and matched for many different occasions. And it’s photopolymer, so it’s easy to line things up! 🙂
I used a little bit of Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue to adhere a piece of Window Sheet to the back of the fussy cut Marquee image – and rubbed it with my Embossing Buddy! This helps to keep the sequins and “stuff” in the shaker from sticking to the window. Then I ran a line of the new Foam Adhesive Strips around the “window”. This is cool stuff, folks – you can cut it to fit and you can also bend it around your corners. The result is a solid line of “pop up strip” that your shaker card sprinkles can’t escape! 🙂
We have another new punch coming – called Sprinkles! – and I used it to cut a little bit of Pool Party card stock. I used just a few of those “sprinkles” and some Metallics Sequin Assortment sequins for the innards of my shaker. Here’s a tip I learned last week. Put your sprinkles on the back/bottom panel of your shaker. Then lay your “top” – with the foam adhesive strips – over that. Makes it easier to keep everything together!
For the card front, I ran a panel of Pool Party card stock thru the Big Shot in the Confetti TIEF. I used my Gold Wink of Stella to color all the little stars on the resulting embossed image. Then I SNAILd it to a Soft Suede panel and then to a Mossy Meadow Panel. I SNAILd the assembled “shaker” to the center of the card panel and commenced to decorating it a bit!
I used the smallest of the Stars Framelits to cut a little star from some Gold Foil and adhered it to the marquee with some Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue. Then I punched two little stars in Pool Party, using the star punch in the Itty Bitty Accent Punch Pack. Note – this little set of punches is retiring. Get them quick if you don’t own them already!
I added some Rhinestone Basic Jewels to the stars and the embossed stars on the Marquee Messages image, and the card front was done.
For the inside, I repeated the layering – Pool Party (embossed in the Confetti TIEF), Soft Suede and Mossy Meadow. I heat embossed the sentiment from Marquee Messages (this new catalog is really good about having inside sentiments along with outside sentiments within the stamp sets!), in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I also colored all the little dry embossed stars with my Gold Wink of Stella.
I SNAILd the inner liner and the card front to my Whisper White card base, and the card was done!
For the Medium Whisper White Envelope, I used another star image from Marquee Messages and heat embossed it several times in Gold on the front of the envelope…
…then I used yet another star image from the set and stamped it multiple times in Pool Party and Mossy Meadow on a piece of Whisper White Envelope Paper, then I cut it with my Envelope Liner Framelits. Which is also retiring!! 🙁 You guys – this is one of the best things I’ve ever bought – if you’ve got a Big Shot, do do DO get it while it lasts!!!
Et Voila! A fun – gender-neutral – birthday card for anyone you need a birthday card for! I’m liking this set – it’s really versatile, and I’d urge you to put it on your list for when the new catalog goes live on 1 June! And don’t miss out on the great things that are retiring on 31 May – like the Envelope Liner Framelits, and the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack!
